Description
If you need a break and just want to escape from the world for a while and have some "you" time as a couple, or if you're coming alone to try your hand at fishing, Oaktree Cottage is made for you. It's a charming, one-bedroom cottage, all on one level, situated in a quiet corner of a converted, 300 year old Cornish stone barn. It has its own entrance, porch and parking space and you can come and go, or come and stay, at your own pace.
The sitting room is comfortably furnished with a large sofa and armchair and is south-facing overlooking the lush Glynn Valley. There's a TV with Freeview and superfast broadband/wifi across the site if you'd like to stay connected. Have a leisurely breakfast sitting at the table and try to spot the river through the trees. After breakfast, you'll be perfectly placed, just off the A38, for exploring this beautiful part of Cornwall, or simply wandering down to the river, or the lake, and finding a peaceful spot to read a book or for a picnic. As a guest here, you'll have exclusive guest access to 17 acres of woodland, meadow, a one and a half acre lake and almost a third of a mile of the beautiful River Fowey.
Oaktree Cottage's cosy double bedroom has a comfy double bed made up with high quality bedding, a wardrobe and a dressing table with a hairdryer. The kitchen is small but well-equipped with Portmeirion Blue Botanic china and plenty of cutlery and utensils for a self-catering stay. You'll find a washing-up starter pack, tea towel and oven gloves if you want to cook; although who wants to cook on holiday when there are so many great cafes and restaurants within an easy drive? Everything you'd expect to find in the kitchen is there - electric oven and hob, fridge with ice-box, microwave, toaster, kettle, cafetiere - and perhaps some things extra, including a welcome hamper. There's additional freezer space available in the Information Room.
The Cottage has a shower room with a thermostatically-controlled power shower, WC and vanity unit. Shower room towels and a bath mat are provided. There's a great porch space just inside the front door for dumping bags and shoes and, outside the door, you'll find your own picnic table and parasol on a grassy lawned area just for you. There's a BBQ available during your stay and, as the sun sinks, you can sit with a glass of wine and watch the buzzards circling over the meadow or, if you're very lucky, you might spot one of the red deer who live in the woods.
Some guests find that they don't leave the site as there's plenty to do with walks around the lake, bird-spotting in the hide, choosing your favourite picnic spot and going off grid with a book, finding your inner-child on the rope swings, having a game of boules on the court or even fishing for salmon or trout in the river. There's also a fire pit in the grounds which is another perfect spot for unwinding at the end of the day.
If you are exploring further afield, you'll have the perfect base. Rivermead Cottages are about half-way between Bodmin and Liskeard. Bodmin Moor is 5 minutes away by car, and Looe, Charlestown, Fowey and Lostwithiel can be reached in less than 20 minutes. There's a host of attractions within easy reach such as the NT gardens at Lanhydrock, the Eden Project, Golitha Falls and Lantic Bay. You'll find a wealth of information leaflets and suggested walks in the Information Room.
