Description

Comfortable, clean accommodation for two. Countryside setting and centrally located. Beautiful grounds with walks and fishing on site. Friendly, unobtrusive hosts. We can tick all of these boxes for you.

A stay at Rivermead means you're guaranteed to have a peaceful sanctuary to get away from the beach crowds and the hustle and bustle of a busy Cornwall. Kingfisher Cottage at Rivermead is the place for you if you're looking for a great base for exploring Cornish attractions, a wide variety of wildlife and somewhere to just relax.

We'd love to welcome you to this one-bedroom cottage which is all on one level and has its own entrance and dedicated parking area. As a guest at Rivermead, you'll enjoy exclusive access to 17 acres of beautiful Cornish woodland, meadows, a private one and a half acre lake and a stretch of the River Fowey, where you can fish for trout and salmon in season.

Kingfisher Cottage is in a converted 300 year old Cornish stone barn with very few straight walls but a lot of character. There's a handy porch area where you can leave bags and shoes and this leads out to a garden area where you'll have your own picnic bench, parasol and a BBQ. Inside the cottage, the well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for a self-catering stay, and perhaps some things you'd never even thought of!

All the things you'd expect are there - electric oven and hob, fridge with ice-box, microwave, toaster, cafetiere - but probably also some things you didn't, like a picnic set and a cream tea on arrival. There are plenty of pans, cutlery, crockery and utensils, if you really want to cook during your holiday, but don't miss our Welcome Folder which contains lots of suggestions for places to eat out. We provide you with a washing-up starter pack, a tea towel and oven gloves, and there's additional freezer space in the Information Room should you need it.

Across the hallway from the kitchen is the shower room with a thermostat-controlled power shower, WC and vanity unit. Shower room towels and a bath mat are provided for you.

The pretty south-facing living room has a comfy sofa and armchair with TV, Freeview and a DVD player, perfect for relaxing after a day's sightseeing. There's BT broadband/Wifi across the site if you want to keep in touch while you're here. You have a dining table and chairs in the living room where you can have your breakfast looking out towards the river through the trees and watch the squirrels pinching the birds' peanuts from the feeder. You'll have the same countryside view out of the bedroom window, which also faces south towards the river. There's a comfy double bed with high-quality, coordinating bed linen, a hanging rail, dressing table and hairdryer.

Some guests find that they don't leave the site as there's plenty to do with walks around the lake or along the river, bird-spotting in the hide, choosing your favourite picnic spot and going off grid with a book and a bottle of wine, finding your inner-child on the rope swings, having a game of boules on the court or even fishing for salmon or trout in the river. There's also a fire pit in the grounds which guests are welcome to use.

If you are exploring further afield, you'll have the perfect base. Rivermead Cottages are about half-way between Bodmin and Liskeard. Bodmin Moor is 5 minutes away by car, and Looe, Charlestown, Fowey and Lostwithiel can be reached in less than 20 minutes. There's a host of attractions within easy reach such as the NT gardens at Lanhydrock, the Eden Project, Golitha Falls and Lantic Bay. You'll find a wealth of information leaflets and suggested walks in the Information Room.

A wonderful serene place

By Burgess on 12-May-2023

We had such an amazing time last year that we knew we would return and will keep returning. It is a wonderful serene place with as much to do close by as you choose. What could you do better? Absolutely nothing, it is just perfect.

Accommodation is stunning

By Burgess on 20-Aug-2022

The site looked beautiful, relaxing and although very peaceful, it was close to many areas of interest. What do you do well? The site itself is beautifully kept, the accommodation is stunning with everything and more that you need for your holiday. The hosts were available if needed and gave very good recommendations for places to visit or eat.
