Description
This comfortable, stylish house sleeps twelve in four double and two twin bedrooms with ample room for relaxing and entertaining.
Built in 1897 and used as the parish vicarage until 2010, the house and garden have undergone a major programme of renovation. At the heart of the house is a very large, sociable kitchen and dining room, with an Everhot electric range, a sofa and armchairs. This room, like the three other downstairs living rooms, has a wood burning stove. A large south-facing living room adjoins the kitchen. From here there is access on to the terrace and garden. The television is in the vicar's former study. A further living room has a selection of local guide books and maps, board games and novels. There is a desk and two comfortable armchairs for reading in front of the wood burning stove.
The main rooms of the Old Vicarage all face south and the windows are large. When the sun shines - and since we moved into the house it feels as if the sun has shone almost every day - sunglasses worn inside don't seem inappropriate.
We added a conservatory on the east side of the house in order to better enjoy the views of Pill Creek. We think you would be hard pressed to tell this conservatory was not original to the Victorian house. The south-facing terrace has a large table and twelve chairs. At the rear of the house there is a further outdoor table and chairs by the barbecue area.
We often use this house for entertaining so it is very generously equipped with china, cutlery, glasses and corkscrews. The Everhot range cooker will be left ready for action and is not difficult to use but comes supplied with a manual in case of need. There is also a microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer. A downstairs shower room is convenient for hosing down after a day on the water. There is a second fridge freezer, essential for large groups, next to washing machine at the back of the house.
The six bedrooms are all generously sized and all have glorious views of the sea, the creek or the village. Our guests have commented that this is house where everyone can be convinced that their bedroom is the best one! The two twin rooms at the top share a bathroom with far reaching views down the Carrick Roads to St Mawes and beyond. On the first floor the bedroom looking out over Pill Creek has a four poster bed and ensuite shower room. There are two double rooms with sea views, a third with a view of the church and cottages beyond. There are two further family bathrooms on this floor.
The five bathrooms are supplied by two large hot water tanks which have never yet run cold, even when we had a very full house for our son's wedding.
Our days in Feock are usually spent outdoors but for indoor days we have a television with BT Vision and are lucky enough to enjoy superfast broadband at the house. There is a selection of board games available as well as a table tennis table. The large areas of flat lawn are ideal for badminton and boules. Nets and racquets are left in the porch.
Our dog enjoys her time in Feock but we would caution against bringing anything other than very well behaved dogs to the house. The newly planted hedges on the boundary are not dog-proof, nor is the ha-ha which separates the garden from our farmer neighbour's livestock.
We provide bed linen and towels for the house but ask you to bring your own beach towels please.
Our housekeeper will make everything ready for you and is available in case of a real emergency.
