Planning a family get-together? Friends reunited? Need plenty of space plus lots of peace and quiet? Great Asby Old Rectory could be the ideal venue for your weekend break from life's daily stresses and strains. A detached large family house, sensitively modernised to preserve its original architectural features, it has a stunning barrel-vaulted 650 year-old dining room. The other reception rooms were added at roughly 200-year intervals and the house is Grade 2* listed. Above the dining room is a snooker room with a Tudor fireplace and full size slate-bed snooker table. As well as the 6 bedrooms (5 double, I twin) there are 5 rooms downstairs plus the snooker room, so you can spread out as much or as little as you wish. If you fancy a break from self-catering our friendly village pub The Three Greyhounds offers excellent pub grub.
There are lots of good walks, either from the Rectory or up in the Pennine villages just 15 minutes away by car. Appleby and the spectacular Settle-Carlisle railway are just 6 miles away, Penrith 19 miles - from there to Ullswater, Keswick and the beautiful north Lake District. The Yorkshire Dales are equally accessible to the east. Walk or drive to the renowned Great Asby Scar limestone pavements - a must for geologists and botanists. Yet Great Asby is not en route to anywhere, so there is little traffic through the village. We have a church, two chapels, a primary school, a pub and a picturesque sprawl of cottages and farms. We still 'reserve' the Rectory for our own family get-togethers for 6 or 7 weeks each year , so we can spread out and remember how comfortable a big house can be. We think you'll like the house and the village as much as we do! Please visit our website www.greatasbyoldrectory.co.uk for more details.
