Reviews

Will definitely be returning to this excellent cottage.

By Gareth & Sue Evans on 15-Sep-2020

We have visited Rollen Cottage several times in the last few years and had no hesitation in staying there again in the current circumstances. The owner is extremely efficient, friendly and keeps the property in an excellent condition. It is well equipped with quality goods and she provides everything you could possibly want, she really does think of everything and goes that extra mile. She is on hand for any queries or if you need anything but does not intrude on your holiday.
The cottage is well located being out of the hustle and bustle of Arnside but still within easy reach and there is plenty of walking direct from the cottage.
We were very happy with the cleanliness of the property and that all Covid precautions had been taken and would not hesitate to stay again.

Another great holiday in this beautiful cottage

By Mr Mrs Rose on 13-Sep-2020

This is our second stay at this superb cottage. When we arrived Carol was there to greet us which was very welcoming. There were some beautiful flowers plus milk, eggs and coffee in the fridge to start us off and scrumptious biscuits which we couldn't resist.
The cleanliness and quality of the cottage is unsurpassable and is roomy and very well equipped. Carol has been trained for Covid19 hygiene cleaning and it showed which in these fearful times is comforting to know.
Carol and Bruce are very generous and with Carol living next door always ready to be on hand to provide local knowledge or help if you need it.
We shall be returning for a third stay for another relaxing and enjoyable holiday in the near future and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a fantastic cottage set in beautiful countryside. Ian, Lorraine and Graham

We returned for a week this month (our "second home")

By Mr & Mrs Ireland on 27-Aug-2020

We returned for a week this month (our "second home") with 3 of our grandchildren for 3 days. Carole & Bruce are very welcoming and shared some home grown veg. and plants with us. The cottage is very comfortable with all you need for a self-catering stay. The location is peaceful and relaxing. The kids loved the freedom of the garden and the country walks (including the "Fairy Steps") right from the front door. We will be back - if Carole & Bruce will have us!

What a fantastic cottage

By Cath & Dennis Richardson on 11-Aug-2020

What a fantastic cottage to stay in. Everything we could wish for when taking a short break. Don't think I've ever stayed in such an immaculate property and our hosts Carol and Bruce could not be faulted for their hospitality. Will definitely visit again and soon.

A Fabulous Week

By Derek & Julie Close on 09-Aug-2020

Thank you to Carol and Bruce for a fabulous week in this perfect cottage. The cleanest and best equipped cottage we've ever stayed in. We loved the fresh flowers and all the extras that were provided. Even in the middle of Covid we felt very safe, as Carole had thought of everything. We had a perfect week of relaxation, walks and reading.

Absolutely amazing place

By Mrs J Beckett on 12-Oct-2017

We stayed for a week in September. This must be the best equipped holiday let we have ever stayed in. Ann met us at the gate and we could'nt have been made more welcome. We were shown round and everything about the cottage was amazing. A real home from home and we did'nt want to leave. The area is beautiful and we had a brilliant Sunday lunch at The Eagles Head, Nether Killet. There were absolutely no negatives with this property, LOVED IT.

Beautifully equipped cottage in a lovely area

By Mr & Mrs Warmington on 28-Jul-2017

Beautifully equipped cottage in a lovely area
Left on Jul 28, 2017 for a stay in Jul 2017
Rollen Cottage is the best equipped holiday rental we have ever had - there was nothing Carol & Bruce, the owners, had not thought to provide even down to the vase of fresh flowers in the sitting room. The cottage was a perfect base for us and two friends to explore the area and photograph the wildlife on Arnside Knott, the local Mosses, Fells and coastal walks. Carol sent us lots of leaflets on walks and wildlife before the holiday and we picked up more at the AONB office but still didn't have time to visit all the places we read about so a return visit is on the cards. We were in two minds whether to write a review at all in case it makes this gem too popular but everyone should have the chance of young tawny owls calling from the garden in the middle of the night and being right in the middle of some lovely countryside.

A great base for wildlife walks

By Mr Jeremy Bartlett on 10-Jul-2017

We had a very enjoyable stay in Rollen Court Cottage in the last week of June 2017. The cottage was very comfortable and well appointed and our host, Carol, was very welcoming and extremely helpful. The cottage is about half an hour's walk from Arnside and its station and shops but Carol kindly transported us to and from the cottage at the beginning and end of our stay and drove us to the local supermarket for supplies. We had booked our week's stay in Arnside for the walks, beautiful scenery and to see some of the wide range of wild flowers and butterflies in the area. We saw Dark Green and Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries, Graylings and Northern Brown Argus on Arnside Knott and Large Heath on the other side of the Kent Estuary at Meathop Moss. At the end of June, we were just a week too early to see High Brown Fritillary as well. Flowering highlights included Dark-red Helleborines and Bird's-eye Primrose at Gait Barrows and Sand Garlic by the roadsides, both just a short walk from the cottage. The AONB Visitor Centre at Arnside station is worth a visit too - they have produced a series of excellent small guides to the local rocks, plants, animals and fungi. It is possible to do lots of walks directly from the cottage: Gait Barrows NNR, Arnside Knott, along the coast at Arnside, down to Silverdale and across to the Fairy Steps and further, on the Limestone Link path. As a bonus, Carol also drove us to the start of several walks, which allowed us to explore much further afield

All you expect and more

By David & Carolynn Henderson on 30-Apr-2017

Left on Apr 30, 2017 for a stay in Apr 2017
Its very well equipped , spacious, & decorated and furnished to a very good standard, and everything worked- even the WiFi which works well enough to support streaming (in other words better than in most rentals and hotels). It was a warm and comfortable place to spend a week whilst we explored Morecambe Bay and the Lakes. We'd have no hesitation in recommending Rollen Cottage, or revisiting if we return to that locality. Pleasant, helpful owner. Within 5 minutes there are decent pubs and restaurant, an artisan bakery(good) and great espresso. Can't think of any downsides at all- a good time.

A great home from home!

By Mrs Sarah Taylor on 14-Apr-2017

This beautifully finished cottage is in a great location and just a quick hop in the car to Arnside, Silverdale or Milnthorpe, or even on foot! Everything you could think of is included here! Plenty of parking space, comfortable living area, large kitchen/diner, en-suite bedrooms, cosy and warm. A fabulous base! Very handy WIFI for the children! (and searching for things to do!). Friendly, welcoming hosts. We will be visiting again!

Excellent property lovely location

By Mr Mrs Vincent Gunner on 16-Nov-2016

We stayed at the property for a week in October and found it to be a lovely property in a great location near Arnside and within easy driving distance of Bowness and the Lake district. All the facilities that we needed were in the property which was very clean, spacious and comfortable. There are some excellent places to eat in Arnside, Sandside and Milnthorpe. Carol the owner of the property was extremely helpful and friendly and we intend to return again next year when we will make the most of the many lovely walks there are in the area.
