This charmingly converted pigsty is in the peaceful conservation village of Stanton on the southern edge of The Peak District, close to the historic town of Ashbourne. It stands on the edge of a wildflower meadow, created with the help of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. It is on a hill with fine views over four counties and the Weaver Hills. This is a snug retreat for all seasons, ideally suited to walkers, birdwatchers, cyclists, all who love the countryside or simply want to relax. Nearby Carsington water offers water sports. Cycle hire is available.
Apart from the usual retailers Ashbourne has many small privately owned shops, including antiques. There is wide choice of coffee shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. The southern Peak district has many attractions with beautiful Dovedale, the spa town of Buxton, Matlock and The Heights of Abraham. Lesser known Leek, ‘The Queen of the Moorlands’, has a lengthy history, with a number of old and interesting buildings. The Nicholson Institute houses a museum and art gallery. Within easy reach of Stanton are Cheadle, with its magnificent Pugin church, Arkwright’s Mill at Cromford, the silk museum in Macclesfield and pottery museums in Stoke and Derby. Further afield are many places of interest including Bolsover Castle, Calke Abbey, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Old Hall, Kedleston Hall, Shugborough and Trentham Gardens.
Converted in 2015 The Pigsty offers comfortable accommodation for two people all on the ground floor. The bedroom has a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath. The well equipped kitchen is all electric, the dining area has a table and chairs. The lounge has a wood burner with a complimentary basket of logs. Outside there is a lawned area with terrace and table and chairs looking out across the meadow to the extensive views. A barbeque is available on request. There is secure bike storage and parking on the property.
Small but perfectly formed .

The Pigsty is a small but perfectly formed little cottage in a great location and with outstanding views. It is perfectly located for the Tissington and Manifold Trails, and convenient for Ashbourne, Ilam and Dovedale. Ideal for two people, and with a barn for storing bikes and a bike rack. The cottage itself is compact but everything is there , including a log fire, and it is done to a high standard and very sweet. The owners are extremely helpful and responsive and try hard to make sure everything is just so.
Excellent view in rolling countryside.

Excellent view in rolling Derbyshire countryside. Very well fitted out, lots of room inside, three front doors! We are cyclists, and were made very welcome, with many dedicated routes in easy range, not just the Tissington. Thoroughly recommended.
Excellent week .

Excellent week in a delightful and very comfortable cottage, with wonderful views. The Pigsty was spotlessly clean and very well-equipped, with great walks from the door. We hope to return soon!

Lovely cottage with amazing view. A lot of thought has obviously gone into making this a home from home where you can relax.

Spotlessly clean. Quiet situation. Great views. Comfortable 5ft bed. Good selection of walking maps and information about the local area. A great place to stay if you want to relax and unwind.

We thought the Pigsty was absolutely first class, the location was wonderful with superb views across three or four counties. The meadow immediately at the front of the cottage had been planted with bee and butterfly friendly flowers. The cottage itself was very comfortable and cosy, on cool or cold days the rooms were lovely and warm and we didn't need to light the log burning stove.
The very pleasant owners of the property live nearby, we found them very helpful and not intrusive at all. We went stressed and came home totally relaxed, we had such a great holiday at "The Pigsty".
