Orchid Cottage in Axmouth, Near. Seaton and Lyme Regis, South Devon, Devon, England - Period Cottage In A Picturesque Village Setting With The Convenience Of A Nearby Town
Orchid Cottage is a spacious 3 to 4-bedroom end of terrace property that can comfortably accommodate six people. It is equipped and furnished suitable for adults and children over teh age of five years. There is ample parking both on street and an allocated spot. Although recently refurbished, the property dates well back into the 19th Century when it was part of the building that comprised the village post office and stores. Axmouth itself is a picturesque Devon village, full of quaint old thatched cottages, lying next to the River Axe and in close proximity to ancient Axmouth harbour.
Inside: Orchid Cottage is deceptively spacious from its street profile. On entering the front door there is a large living room, Entertainment is provided with a 40 inch Samsung HD LED TV and Blu ray player, a Panasonic DAB radio/CD player with Bluetooth connectivity and a BT home-hub, providing free and unlimited wifi internet connection. From the living room there is a fourth bedroom/snug room off to one side and a large kitchen/diner in the rear extension. The kitchen/diner equipment provided include a large fridge freezer, electric cooker, microwave, washing machine, kettle and toaster. There is a large glass dining table and six comfortable chairs plus an additional folding chair. Upstairs, leading from the landing, there are the three bedrooms, a twin and double to the front and the master bedroom with a double bed and the en-suite shower room in the extension to the rear. The cottage is generally warm and cosy due to the thick walls refurbished with dry lining and the efficient and modern LPG central heating that we run during the colder months (approximately September to April weather dependent). We request that outside footwear not be worn inside the cottage so please remember to bring your slippers.
Outside: French doors open from the kitchen onto a large landscaped patio area with elegant aluminium table and six chairs. A storage box provides a place for walking boots and extra seating. The back garden is decoratively planted to provide colour and interest throughout the year. A path leads through the back garden to a rear gate providing access through a further communal path shared by two neighbouring properties to the rear allocated parking space. A side gate provides access from the patio past the council bin storage to the street at the front of the cottage. Although the Orchid Cottage garden and patio are not suitable for playing children, fortunately there is a large children's village playing field and playground about 70 meters to the right along quiet Chapel Street as you exit the cottage. The Axmouth Silver Jubilee Recreation Ground is well equipped with modern and well-maintained slides, swings and climbing frames with bark cushioning for safety.
Parking: Orchid Cottage has one allocated off-street parking space to the rear of the property. In addition, there is unrestricted on-street parking to the front of the property. With ample parking arriving with multiple vehicles should not be an issue.
Cleaning / Towels / Linen : Linen provided and beds made up. Towels provided (one hand and one bathroom per guest), not to be removed from cottage (please bring your own beach towels).
Notes on prices: Short stays possible by arrangement at 70% for 3 nights, 80% for 4 nights and 90% for 5 nights of the full weekly rate. Orchid Cottage sleeps 6 people in three upstairs bedrooms. We stayed at Orchid Cottage for four nights over the New Year holiday and found it to be extremely comfortable, well fitted, warm and homely, with a beautiful garden and patio area which would be a great asset in the summer months.
The cottage is obviously well loved and cared for by the owners, who we found to be most helpful.
The cottage is situated in a quiet location, but close to all amenities with two pubs within walking distance, both offering good food.
We would have no hesitation in recomending this property

This was the third time we have stayed in Orchid Cottage - it is a lovely cottage with good facilities. The weather during our latest stay was mixed but we were lovely and cosy in the cottage.
Lovely beaches whatever the weather - Lyme Regis and Beer are very quaint and offer the opportunity to mooch around some little shops. Good pubs and restaurants nearby.
Fabulous cottage in pretty village near the coast
By SueChrisD Shropshire, United Kingdom on 18-Jul-2015
Arrived at the cottage and everything was of a high standard and very clean. Lots of space for four adults. Well equipped with everything we needed, the courtyard garden was lovely, a real sun-trap and not overlooked. Parking was great right outside the cottage on the road so didnt used the dedicated parking at the rear of the property. The village is very lovely with two pubs serving great food. It is only a short walk along the harbour road into Seaton. The cottage is perfectly placed to explore this part of the South coast and we had brilliant days out at Lyme Regis, Beer, Branscombe and Isle of Portland. Perfect in every way and would love to revisit, very highly recommend.

“Perfect holiday cottage!”
By Kdon1 Henley-on-Thames, United Kingdom on 28-Sep-2014
Perfect holiday cottage! The cottage is spacious, cleaned to perfection, has good quality furniture and is nicely decorated and has all the electronic equipment you will ever need along with good internet connection. It is situated in a lovely little village with a pub (more like a restaurant) at the end of the road where we dined twice. The food is very good, in fact my husband said he would eat everything on the menu, the staff are friendly and it gets very busy so it may be a good idea to book a table during busy months. The tram in Seaton (next to the huge Tesco store) is good fun and fishing and mini golf in Lyme Regis were even better than expected. Sadly we didn’t find any fossils along the coast but maybe next time. Stayed here with my husband, teenage son and his friend just before return to school/college. The owners were very helpful, quick to respond, payment was easy and deposit return was very prompt. I would love to stay in the cottage again and would recommend it to anyone.
“Holiday at Orchid Cottage”
By BillRG Newbury, United Kingdom on 24-Mar-2014
We have just returned from another wonderful, relaxing and most enjoyable holiday at Orchid Cottage feeling thoroughly reinvigorated after a much needed break. The weather was superb for the time of year. Only Thursday was wet, and we spent that day exploring the fine array of shops at nearby Sidmouth after a splendid meal at the excellent Garden Centre Restaurant. During the rest of the week, we visited old friends at Uffculme, near Cullompton and spent many happy hours on the other days at favourite locations like Forde Abbey, with its superb gardens, Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Gardens and picturesque places of local and cultural interest like Lyme Regis, Honiton,Branscombe and Beer. Once again we found the cottage superbly equipped with everything we needed and spotlessly clean. Over the years we have taken self catering holidays at many places both home and abroad but, without doubt, Orchid Cottage is the best of them and will remain our favourite holiday destination for years to come.
Chill out week

Fabulous accommodation in an excellent location!
By Sharon A Stafford, United Kingdom on 08-Feb-2014
I have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful cottage to anyone looking for somewhere a "little bit special" to stay. The cottage is very well presented, offering good clean living accommodation (home from home). Located in a beautiful village, with two public houses, both offering a friendly welcome with excellent food and ale. The location is ideal to visit both Devon and Dorset and in easy reach of the beautiful coastline and many beaches. The owners of the property are very accommodating and have literally thought of everything, including dvd's and books to make your stay pleasurable. Truly, lovely and most certainly will be visiting again ... :-)
