This attractive bungalow with a conservatory and pretty enclosed garden overlooks the cricket ground of the small picturesque village of Great Longstone, in the heart of the Peak District.
Great Longstone is just 3 miles from the bustling town of Bakewell, with it’s weekly Monday Market; 1 mile from the lovely village of Ashford in the Water and 10 minutes away from Chatsworth Estate. There are two pubs in the village within 2 minutes’ walk providing good food and a warm welcome. The village also has a small convenient shop and a dairy where you can get milk and eggs.
The cottage is an ideal base for cyclists and walkers being only 50 metres from the popular Monsal Trail. The trail runs along the former converted Midland Railway line between Bakewell to near Buxton making enjoyable walking and cycling options on the former railway line which enjoys lovely cafes and country pubs en route. Cycle hire is available from the Station at Hassop 1 mile away. As well as the trail, the village has numerous footpaths with walks through beautiful countryside and pretty villages that can be started from the doorstep.

As keen walkers ourselves we have provided, for our guests, maps and route descriptions of some of our favourite walks and cycle routes.
The area is also very popular for runners, climbers, cavers and mountain bikers as well as those wanting to visit the many traditional peak district villages and country houses.
Dogs are welcome in most pubs in the area, we provide details of these in our welcome pack.

We are happy to accommodate up to 2 dogs (we charge £12 extra per dog).

The cottage can sleep 4 and comprises:

Great place to stay. Fab location. Accommodation was very comfortable. Great for dog owners and children. Amazing walks on your doorstep. Lovely village with shop and 2 great pubs that allow dogs. Would like to come back again.

An ideal property for a Xmas get away. Warm and comfortable and close to all major walking routes in Peak District. 2 good pubs in the village both serving excellent food and a shop stocked with everything at very reasonable prices. Good local bus service and walking from the door. Dog friendly. Highly recommended.

Peaklands welcomed us and made us feel at home from the off. Very comfortable and well-equipped, with lots of attention to detail, and prompt response from a very nice landlady round the corner when needed. Great Longstone seems a happy place in a magnificent position, with two really good pubs and a remarkably well stocked shop. we'd like to come back in the cricket season so we can watch the game over the fence.

Fantastic accommodation and area to stay

Everything you could ask for in a holiday.

The dogs loved the garden and surrounding country side and with 2 pubs with good and and ale just a stroll away they thought they had gone to heaven so much they did not appreciate coming home.

The owners saw to our every need when we needed it.

The peak district is delightful with loads of walks filled with interesting other places to visit, you never get bored.

The cottage itself was all we thought it would be, clean, beds very comfortable, bathroom great, garden a delight and the conservatory a pleasure to sit out in for us all with a view over the cricket ground you would die for

Overall a holiday we will remember for a long time, thank you Jane and Sara for letting us use your cottage.

Lovely comfortable bungalow

This was our second visit to Peaklands. We rebooked as it is very homely and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Off road parking is also a bonus. The owners have put alot of thought into the rental, and live close by should you need any assistance. Great Longstone is on the Monsal Trail if you enjoy walking, and the village is well situated to visit the places of interest in the National Park. Come rain or shine you should be satisfied if you stay here

Lovely cottage in perfect location

Very well equipped, and just the right size for the four of us. Lots of lovely decorations, and we made use of the conservatory every day. Very pleasant garden which we would have used more if the weather had been better. Well placed for Bakewell (5 minutes drive) and for Monsal Head (20 minutes walk). Local shop stocked exactly the sort of things we needed! Sunday roast at the White Lion pub was very good too. Very pleasant stay all round - thank you!

Lovely bungalow in a fantastic location

Four adults enjoyed 4 days at Peaklands in Great Longstone, a quiet, pretty and friendly village. We were very comfortable in the well appointed bungalow, and delighted to have a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge on arrival together with a pint of milk and also there were teabags, coffee, sugar etc. very welcoming! There is a small but well stocked shop 5 minutes walk away. The bungalow has a private well tended garden and we enjoyed relaxing there in the sunshine and cooking a barbecue one evening. Two excellent pubs in the village and we had superb meals at The Crispin. Easy access to the Monsal trail and a central location for exploring the beautiful Peak District and its numerous attractions.

Lovely Property

Just spent a week at this cottage which was perfect for our holiday. The cottage has everything anyone would need including a lovely garden. Very clean and we felt right at home straight away. It is set in a very picturesque village with a couple of really good pubs for eating out. I would highly recommend it.

Home from Home and more

"Peaklands" is the best holiday cottage we have stayed at in the Peak district.It was extremely clean, comfortable and had everything we needed to make our stay perfect.Milk and wine in the fridge was much appreciated and the information folder was very helpful.

The conservatory and garden were ideal for our dog and the village is lovely and peaceful with two good dog friendly pubs,both doing good food.

We will definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful property.

Lovely homely cottage in great location

Attractive welcoming cottage with a great sense of homeliness about it. Location is superb or walking or cycling straight from the cottage, and is ideally situated for exploring all the peaks has to offer by car. This was our second stay at Peaklands and I am sure it won't be the last. The friendliness of everyone we met was a lovely added bonus yet again.

A lucky find for May half term

Just had a great week at Peaklands. There are lots of deserved positive reviews about this holiday home and I think we were lucky to get half term week. Here are the things we really liked:

Location - Lovely village, centrally located for both Edale and Dovedale, plus many other places, and under 10 mins to Bakewell. Monsal trail on the doorstep. Bring bikes if you enjoy cycling as in addition to the Monsal trail there are more lovely family bike rides though the dales from Parsley Hay. This bungalow even has it's own attached secure garage for your bikes.

Everything just works - great shower, central heating, all Bosch appliances (very clean), gas hob, well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, plenty of space, BBQ...

Conservatory - lovely to sit in in the evening if it's not warm enough to sit in the attractive back garden

Well maintained recreation ground behind the property - the kids could go off in the evenings to play footy, basketball etc

Helpful owners live just round the corner - we didn't need them as they seem to have thought of everything, but appreciated the offers of assistance and it's reassuring to know they are there.

This holiday property is very comfortable and has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Very friendly village and lovely village pubs that provide excellent food.

We had a lovely break for a few days. A very welcome treat awaited us and a warm cottage with comfortable beds and a super shower. We could walk easily into the village with a village shop, farm shop and two pubs. Plenty of pretty walks from the cottage - we could give the car a rest! Now feeling rested and refreshed. Hope to revisit soon.

Cosy and warm

We had a wonderful stay at Peaklands bungalow. It is well equipped and very comfortable. There is a play park within a few 100 meters of the property which is great for little ones. The pub restaurant around the corner is also worth a visit.

Wonderful short break

Lovely short break. House very warm & fully equipped.Nice welcome touches.Piping hot shower. Quiet bedrooms. Beds v.comfortable. Great extension for muddy boots & dogs. Lovely garden for our dog.

Near to pubs. Great for Monsal trail walks.

A thoroughly enjoyable weekend in this beautiful, well equipped bungalow set in an enchanting village. Everything was very clean, the water piping hot and the heating very efficient. There was lots of storage space for coats, shoes etc. We couldn't have wished for better and look forward to visiting the area again in 2017. The owner of this holiday let had thought of everything and we appreciated the home comforts which we found very much to our taste. People in the village were friendly and took obvious pride in their homes making our stay all the more pleasurable as the hard frost of our morning departure turned everything into a 'Christmas card' scene. It must be a wonderful place to live. We didn't want to leave. We would highly recommend this accommodation and location. The local pub, bus service into Bakewell and easy access to all local places of interest enhanced the experience. If you want a stress free holiday in wonderful surroundings but within easy travelling distance of local towns, this is the place to visit.

Long weekend break

There is always a small doubt in your mind when booking a property in an unfamiliar area based on photographs, however any doubts quickly vanished on arrival at Peaklands. This is a lovely , spacious , clean and well equipped bungalow in a nice village location. It was warm , the beds were comfy , as was the sofa in the lounge. A larger TV in the lounge and a TV in the bedroom would have enhanced the stay for me , but that is purely my personal preference and may be of insignificance for other guests The car did not move during our stay here. There is off road parking for one car on the drive, also a garage. It is located a 5 - 10 minute walk from the Monsal trail which we walked on both of our full days here , together with Woody the dog. The bungalow is dog friendly , there is even a jar our doggy gravy bone treats in the kitchen.

There a couple of dog friendly pubs in the village , again only 5 - 10 minutes walk from the bungalow. There was lots of info in the bungalow regarding local attractions , amenities and some suggested walks , complete with map and directions which can be taken out with you, most useful !

I would 100% recommend and return to Peaklands again.

Cosy base in the Peak District

We spent a lovely week in October here. The property is warm and cosy, well supplied with everything that you could require. The village is quiet and friendly. Fresh milk and eggs from the farm, village stores and two pubs - both doing good food. There is lots of information in the welcome pack including well thought out walks from the doorstep. The Monsal trail is very easy walking or you can be more adventureous. Don't miss Chatsworth for grandeur and Bakewell for puddings. The garden is dog proof, which was a real asset for us. During our stay one of the owners calling in to check everything was fine - which it was. Only half an hour from the motorway, this is a real escape into the countryside and we would recommend it highly following our lovely stay.

Nice cosy cottage with the conservatory as a bonus!

My wife and I stayed in the cottage in Great Longstone during our holidays from 24 until 29 September while visiting the Peak District. It was a bit difficult to find, because we didn't get good directions how to get there. However, we asked a few people living in the neighbourhood and they were so kind to show us the way to the cottage. When we were all settled, we enjoyed very much staying there in that quiet village and visiting the from there good accessable White Peak and Dark Peak area. The cottage felt very cosy, the kitchen had everything we needed and the beds slept o.k. , but the matrasses were a bit too hard for us, used as we are to memoryfoam matrasses at home. But let's not complain about that. We absolutely loved the conservartory! It's there that we lived most of the week, when we were not away. You have a nice view over the cricketfied towards the hills further away. Another bonus: The two pubs in the village, which are on walking distance from the cottage (very handy), provided us a few times with good food and nice drinks. We both recommand the place.
