Castle Cliffe is a large detached Victorian house located in the hamlet of Monsal Head, just three miles from Bakewell right in the heart of The Peak District National Park. It occupies a commanding position overlooking the spectacular Monsal Dale and it's iconic Headstones Viaduct. The property offers panoramic views in all directions and is ideal for large families or groups of friends who want enjoy one of the prettiest parts of Derbyshire.

Beautifully appointed throughout to provide very spacious accommodation for up to 22 people, there are nine bedrooms, (seven of which have an en suite bathroom), spread over two floors, so there is plenty of flexibility over the sleeping arrangements. A well-equipped kitchen boasts an AGA range cooker as well as a conventional alternative, so the budding chefs in your party can whip up a fabulous meal. A dining room seating twenty two, a very spacious sitting room with a woodburning stove and a snug with an open fire complete the accommodation, so you can be assured of plenty of room to relax and spend that all important time together.

Outside there is a walled garden with a patio area plus barbecue and seating for that al fresco dining experience. Also, to the rear, there is a large paddock where children (and adults) can let off steam, so no matter how much energy they have, they can wear themselves out in safety.

This magnificent house is a superb base for discovering the stunning countryside that is all around. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy a wide variety of footpaths and trails, including the 8.5 miles of the Monsal Trail which crosses the Headstone Viaduct, part of the old Midland Railway, as well as all of the superb walking areas of the Peak District. Just three miles away is the market town of Bakewell, famous for the Bakewell Pudding, or take a short drive to the spa town of Buxton with its Opera House. Alternatively, spend a day at the spectacular Chatsworth House or visiting nearby Haddon Hall.

Surrounded by countryside and with spectacular views all around, there is something for everybody to enjoy.

Perfect location, great house
Just spent 3 nights in this house celebrating a friend's birthday and everything was perfect from the moment we arrived. Location is excellent and the views are breath-taking. The layout of the house was ideal for our group and we had a great time. Would definitely choose to stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.

Excellent location

We have just returned from our 5th annual family holiday at Castle Cliffe. There were 17 of us, aged from 13 to 86. All had a wonderful time. The accommodation is spacious and had plenty of room for us all to be together for eating and socialising. There is also a snug, for anyone who wants to read or watch tv .Every bedroom is very comfortable has a wonderful view. Most are en-suite. The kitchen is well equipped to cater for large numbers. There are many walks in the area and lots of lovely villages to visit. For eating out we highly recommend the Packhorse Inn at Little Longstone a short walk away.

Fabulous

By Maxine L on 11-Jul-2018

I booked this beautiful house to celebrate my 50th birthday with my family. We were a party of 15 adults, 2 children and 1 baby. The house easily accommodated all of us over 3 floors. All the bedrooms were large and had en suite bathrooms. The house was beautifully decorated with attention to detail and all modern conveniences.
We were greeted on arrival to home baked chocolate brownies and fresh flowers. We were lucky with the weather and were able to make good use of the large gardens which the children enjoyed and we were able to make use of the bbq. The dining table is huge easily seating us all with room to spare. The views from all the rooms are spectacular and we enjoyed plenty of walks and pub grub locally. 2 pubs are virtually on the doorstep. A short drive away we visited Bakewell and the village of Eyam. There are plenty of things to do in the area.
I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for room for a large gathering. The owners Neil and Jackie were very welcoming and always available to speak to us if we needed anything. Many thanks for your hospitality.
I would love to stay again.

A perfect place for any large family gathering

By Sue B on 09-Jul-2018

This wonderful large accommodation in Monsal Head, was the perfect setting for our family celebrations. Rather than have several small parties, as a family, we decided to enjoy a large family holiday.
We were welcomed with fresh homemade chocolate brownies, and lovely fresh flowers. The rooms were clean fresh and more than comfortable.
Our grandchildren who attended with us, were not short of games, toys and the outdoor space to run around and play. We had a great patio area with a large barbecue which we used on our last day.

The scenery was magnificent and we enjoyed some lovely walks. We also had a couple of evening meals out locally. The first was at “The Monsal Head Hotel”,and the second at “ThePackhorse”. Both really nice food, but, “The Packhorse”,was my particular favourite.

Back at Castle Cliffe, we celebrated our special birthdays, in the beautiful dining room. We enjoyed a Murder Mystery night, which we planned before our arrival, and all dressed for the ocassion. The owner who came to water her flowers, kindly took photos of us all.

We had such good fun here, and would have stayed an extra night if the accommodation had been available. However places as perfect as this are hard to come by.

So a big thank you to the owners, and we do hope to come back very soon.
