Fabulous property

By Jane125 on 02-Feb-2018

We regrettably only stayed for one week here, it came to an end all too soon. The house is fabulous and the owners Jean and Mike were fantastic and very helpful. The pool and gardens are a joy to be in, we found it difficult to tear ourselves away to explore the area. The house was immaculate and very welcoming.

Quiet homely hidden little gem!

By Chezzaed Newcastle on 25-Jan-2018

Firstly thank you to Jean & Mike! You's have this place just perfect and it was an absolute joy to stay for the week. The house is beautifully decorated with 3 large comfortable bedrooms, two shower rooms, fans, a cot and a fold out bed. The kitchen was well equipped and lounge/dining room perfect for relaxing on an evening. The DVD player and Xbox was a god send for the kids when they needed some time out of the sun. The pool area was perfect and very clean and outside dining ideal for watching the sunset. All in all we found it extremely homely. Blanzac was a 2 min drive with a supermarket, bakery and not much else but barbezieux 15 mins away has a larger cheaper supermarket, with a little selection of bars and restaurants. Cognac 40 mins away was lovely and the Hennessy distillery a well worth visit. The kids loved Futuroscope which is a 4d and 3d theme park and worth the hour and a half drive. Le four at le temple was beautiful, we would all highly recommend it and consider it for future trips.

Peace and privacy, home from home with a pool.

By CandGS Ballymena, United Kingdom on 24-Jan-2018

We arrived 2 hours early (due to Jean's excellent directions) but were made very welcome by Mike and Jean. The house is bright and very clean (and spacious...not obvious from the online photos). The kitchen has everything for a teenage family, including a large fridge/freezer. (We ate in most evenings). Upstairs all 3 double bedrooms (and the 2 bathrooms) are beautifully laid out. There are many areas to dine..inide or outside. Outside, the large back garden is beautiful with walnut, peach, and plum trees (to name a few). Sunflowers planted in the fields behind are a suitable backdrop for photos and attract a lot of wildlife! The grass extends across to the locked and gated pool area. At the front, the patio provides a suntrap for breakfast and lunch. At the back a mulberry tree provides shade for evening BBQs and dinning. Another suntrap is the pool area..with the large well maintained Roman-style pool, which the kids adored until well after 8.30 most evenings! Mike and Jean will reveal some fabulous history about the house and surrounding areas. Having hired a car we travelled to Cognac, Angouleme, Aubeterre sur drone, and many other towns. The area is private, with only the odd tractor or postman! Blanzac Porcheresse is the closest village..a super 20 minute walk, with surround-sound birds. There are 2 supermarkets and a glorious patissarie,a pharmacy,petrol-station and a small bar. Locals are incredibly friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Four...and would love to return for the peace and privacy. I personally miss the frogs croaking at night in the meadow below..super sounds! Thank you Jean and Mike! (photos to follow)

Beauty and tranquility abound in this spacious charming house

By Tripsichord on 18-Jun-2015

Set in a peaceful hamlet beside and ancient church lies Le Four, a charming, rustic house with lots of character. Immaculately clean with quirky little touches, the house holds both quiet places to curl up with a book, and also inviting areas for socialising with friends and family. The owners Mike and Jean could not have been more welcoming and helpful during our stay, sharing with us good food and wine and taking us out for a great meal by thecoast. Although Le Four is set in such peaceful surroundings, it is only a short drive from local amenities. There are also many places of interest within a short drive away. If you like beautiful sunsets and the sound of nature while never being far from restaurants and shops, this is the perfect place. A thoroughly great time was had by all.

Everything you could want from a holiday in France

By Mandynay on 15-Sep-2013

We stayed here as a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers and had an amazing holiday. Mike and Jean were there to greet us after our very long drive down to show us around. Lovely welcome basket, which included wine, beer, bread, pate, soft cheese, milk provided, which we enjoyed that very first evening, before collapsing into bed. The house is well equipped for cooking in, which we did most days, apart from the occasional meal out. Beds were really comfortable, the place was spotlessly clean. Pool was lovely and welcome relief from the hot weather. Enjoyed sunbathing and finding quiet spots to read. Mike took us to a local vineyard, where we enjoyed a tour and tasting of the wines, cognacs and pineau. We did not leave empty-handed. Great local markets to visit, within easy driving distance. For our first family holiday to France, this was a fantastic place to explore the area from, peace and quiet and private. I am sure there is a lot more I could add, but definitely look forward to return in 2015.

Everything we needed to make our week so relaxing and enjoyable

By 499Harvey on 15-Sep-2013

We stayed for a week at Le Four at Le Temple in July 2013. Our journey had a bit of a wobbly start with our hire car but as soon as we arrived at Le Four and were welcomed so warmly by Jean and Mike that wobble was soon forgotten! They had also left the best ever 'welcome pack' that we have received in our many years of visiting France and offered to phone the local Duck restaurant to see if they could fit us in. The house and pool were fantastic and everything was spotless. Poor Jean was kept busy clearing up the pool on a couple of occasions following pretty heavy thunderstorms but she did it before we even noticed what mess had been left! We would certainly recommend the house to anyone who is looking to visit this area of France as we were very well looked after and as I say, everything was spotlessly clean and well maintained Thank you Jean and Mike for making our stay so good.

"Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. it is true that we certainly had at least one fairly dramatic storm whist you were with us, still it made a good story when Mike got back, didn't it! I have said before that i believe cleanliness and a welcome are so important, especially at the end of a journey and thank you for noticing that. We do hope to see you again at Le Temple. Jean."

Didn't want to leave

By Dils23 on 17-Jul-2013

This holiday was arranged almost a year ago and I must admit it didn't disappoint. This was a holiday with my husband and friends that we regularly travel with and we all really enjoyed the house and the surrounds. The house sits right beside the Templar Church overlooking rolling fields of wheat, sunflower and corn. It is an amazing view, especially from the outside dining area. The pool is located to the side of the property behind a wall (French law - pools need to be fenced) but it is a superb place to sit, read (and swim). The local village (Blanzac-Porcheresse) is a 2 minute drive and about a 20 minute walk (we did walk it) with a great Boulangerie (don’t get a coffee) and a very interesting church. If you get a chance also have a look inside the Templar Church next door to the property, we found it open on the Friday (by chance). The local supermarket in Blanzac-Porcheresse was larger than I thought it would be and has most essentials, unfortunately we didn't get to any local markets on this visit. The beds in the property were all very comfortable which was appreciated. The kitchen is relatively well set out with most things that you need (am I the only person who wants a peeler on holiday?). All in all it was a very relaxing holiday that was enjoyed by all.

Everything You Could Want

By 13Ruthie13 on 23-Aug-2012

We had a great time with my husband's parents in this gorgeous spot. The location is stunning, from the drive up narrow windy roads, to the view from the garden looking out over sunflower fields. We have really fond memories of sitting in the evening sun under the mulberry tree devouring delicious morsels from one of the local markets. The spacious house is lovely and has been renovated with care with all the mod cons you need, plus a comfortable living room and dining area for rainy days. The pool area is lovely, private and the pool is actually big enough for a proper swim. Having stayed at quite a few places in France, I feel that the value this place offers is really excellent. The hosts, Jean and Mike were always on hand if you needed anything. Towards the end of our stay we invited them out to dinner and were glad we did as they are lovely, interesting people and we'll definitely keep in touch. Thanks!

Beautiful, spacious house with everything you could need for a perfect holiday.

By JTrim2012 on 08-Jul-2012

We have just got back from a 2 week stay with our 6 month old daughter and and my parents and can't wait to go back. As soon as we arrived we were made to feel so welcome by the owners, Mike and Jean, who were an invaluable source of knowledge on the local area and gave us loads of great ideas on places to visit that were just a short drive away, including markets, lakes, shopping, beaches, old churches etc. The house itself is extremely spacious with lovely views across the countryside. The pictures just don't do it justice. It is equipped with everything you could need and want. Just down the road in Blanzac there are a couple of shops, a boulangerie and a couple of restaurants, just don't get caught out like we did as nothing is open on a Sunday afternoon. Luckily Jean was on hand with some pork fillets from her freezer, a bag of potatoes and lettuce from their veg plot which she insisted we have. This has been probably the best holiday we've had and we would definitely recommend it for a great place to stay and explore some beautiful parts of France.

"Thank you for such a lovely review. We were so pleased you enjoyed your holiday at Le Four and do look forward to seeing you all again. It is not easy to show the house and gardens adequately in the advert and our guests have always been very pleasantly surprised on arrival. We do like to be around to help and you are always most welcome to call round for advice, an aperitif or simply to have some salads, tomatoes or herbs from the garden."

Absolutely fantastic

By Wonderwoman11 on 01-Nov-2011

We stayed at this property in July this year. The house is absolutely beautiful set in peaceful surroundings. My children were able to play safely and the property owners who live close by could not do enough to ensure that our holiday was nothing short of perfect. We had an amazing holdiay spending time sunbathing around the house, playing in the pool and exploring the nearby area. I would highly recommend this property, we have already booked to return next year
