Little Swanley is a converted annexe to Swanley House offering self-contained self-catering accommodation, fitted to a high standard. There is a well-equipped kitchen / dining area at one end of a large living room, the other end being comfortably furnished as a lounge. The bedroom is double aspect, overlooking the orchard and paddock, occupied from time to time by Gloucester Old Spot pigs, alpacas & chickens. Swanley itself is a small hamlet comprising a handful of houses along a quiet country lane; set back from the A38, there is quick & easy access from Swanley to the M5 at either junction 13 (north for Cheltenham / Gloucester) or 14 (south for Bristol / Bath). Little Swanley offers the best of both worlds - proximity to cities for shopping or culture plus a rural location for a getaway break in the countryside. Local attractions include the historic Berkeley Castle, the birdwatchers' paradise at Slimbridge WWT & the tree-huggers heaven at Westonbirt Arboretum.
If you crave an indulgent hour or two of relaxation combined with holistic therapy, the owner Jo Barry offers in-house Reflexology treatments as jb.therapies; she qualified as a reflexologist in October 2014. So convert your stay into a ""mini spa break"" & enjoy a reflexology foot massage in restful surroundings - ask for more details on booking.

From booking to stay Jo and Simon where so helpful and welcoming. Property is in a beautifully quiet rural location and yet only 20 minutes to Bristol. We have family in Berkeley and Wooton and only 10 minutes from each. It was surreal waking up to the view of Alpacas and cute pigs. Cannot thank you enough for a fantastic stay, see you again in the summer.
the loveliest time

In short, Simon & Jo are perfect: gracious hosts and helpful guides. They gave us a ton of information about attractions (emphasis on gardens, as that was our reason for our trip to the country) and the apartment itself is *so* comfortable and lovely. Perfectly clean, wonderful layout, great bathroom. The master bed is firm and perfect (worth noting), and everything you could possibly need is already in the kitchen. Do yourself a favor: stay here. We're already dreaming of our next visit...
Perfect British countryside experience

Jo and Simon have created a perfect oasis for guests. The apartment is very big and comfortable with all the amenities you'd want (except maybe a hair dryer). We bought the optional breakfast package of food which was delightful with eggs and sausage from right here in the farm. We made ourselves a traditional English breakfast including toasted tomatoes and beans and the rest and it was delicious. The beds were very comfortable (a queen and two twins). It's amazingly quiet. Our boys loved having the wii and the enormous selection of DVDs available was super fun. We watched a few old classics we'd missed. We'd come back here in a heartbeat and heartily recommend it for families with two kids. They even flew an American flag for us on their flagpole. How fun!

The apartment has everything you will need and more,it is very comfortable and spacious with beautiful country views out of every window,it has been furnished to a high standard and has lots of personal touches. We were very well looked after by the owner's daughter, who gave advice on places to eat, where the nearest shops were and also got the alpacas to come over so we could photograph them! The apartment is well positioned for trips to Bath, Bristol, Gloucester and Cheltenham as well as smaller picturesque villages. All in all a fabulous place to relax and recharge your batteries, very highly recommended.

The property is well equipped and well maintained, every thing you need is there. The cottage is in a easy accessesible place to other attractions and also has a very nice view. We had a 3 1/2 yr old little girl and Jo has thought abut not only adults even the kid too. We will highly recommend this place to others and well worth it for the money you spend. New Year break

A four night visit to family with a new baby nearby. Despite grey, wet and windy weather the accommodation was beautifully warm and welcoming. It is comfortable, very well equipped and immaculately clean. We were made very welcome and fully intend to return in the future.

Perfect place for a peaceful week away
By Catherine D on 12-Jun-2015
The apartment was much bigger than expected, pristine and beautifully furnished. The views were fields and open country and it was very quiet - perfect for a much needed lie-in in the mornings! The hosts were very pleasant and unintrusive. The animals around were an added bonus. It is perfectly situated to explore the Welsh Borders and we managed to get to Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Bristol and Cheltenham. Berkeley castle is 5 minutes away and worth seeing. There are some good resturants 15 mins away in Thornbury (Italian, Indian). Highly recommended.

Little Swanley is wonderful. Great spacious apartment in larger property. You really feel like you are sitting in a field. It's very quiet, easy to find from the M5 and the alpaca's are brilliant. I had 2 nights here, but could easily have stayed longer. I travelled to Bath for the day using the park and ride which is really easy and it was glorious. Jo had lots of ideas about where to visit in the surrounding area and there were lots of leaflets to help you decide. Well equipped kitchen and bathroom, with powerful shower. I felt all the rooms were bigger than average and even with a few of you, I'm not sure it would have felt cramped. Nice to have a bottle of fizz on arrival and grocery basics including washing up stuff, loo rolls etc. Would definitely stay again.

Where to start, what a find stayed in the area many times to visit grandchildren. Always used the local hotels, for once all fully booked so had to think outside the box. Stumbled upon this magic place and will not look back, will defiantly use this as a base going forward. Great hosts and superb apartment with all you could need, real nice touches including chocolates, wine, fresh fruit and flowers. Good value great location to explore from. Thank you guys
First class apartment

We really enjoyed our time at Little Swanley, we had tried several places to stay as we visit the area on a regular basis to visit relatives, but Little Swanley beats all the others hands down, the place is so spacious, very clean and well equipped with quality items for you to use, the couple themselves Simon and Jo are really nice to talk to and are very helpful about places to visit, mustn't forget the Alpacas either, they are great, the welcome pack is something very special, wine, sweets, flowers, fruit, milk, eggs i could go on and on, we are already recommending the place to other people including showing photo's, relatives in the USA are looking at Little Swanley too.
By David & Kim on 01-Apr-2014
In need of some peace and relaxation, we spent last weekend at Swanley. The accomodation is perfect, all immaculate and well planned, with everything you could possibly need to self cater. The alpacas and hens are in full viewand the eggs extremely fresh! We walked along the river beneath stunning Berkeley castle just a few miles away. We also walked from Sharpness marina past the barge graveyard to Purton. Very interesting and you may just catch sight of the Severn Bore if the tide is turning. Another day would have been great in Bristol which is a short drive away so we may return. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here if you want a chilled break in a rural location.
A Lovely spacious Holiday Apartment
By A P Mac on 30-Jan-2014
My Fiancee and I had a lovely 5 day break at this holiday Apartment. The photos and details of property are all correct. We paid a little extra for the breakfast pack and found the fridge full of milk, Sausages, bacon , blackpudding and other goods. The town of Berkeley is only about 15 minutes away by car. The town has a castle, Butterfly house, jenner museum of vaccination and a treasure trail around the town which you can buy at the museum. One of our days was spent at the Town of Berkeley. We spent two days exploring the city of Gloucester with its cathedral, Dock yards , Museums etc. The centre of Gloucester city is less then 30 minutes by car. Another day we spent driving around the cotsworlds hills which again are less then 30 minutes away. The owner asked us to fill in a questionnaire about our holiday. The owner said they would put all the questionnaire into a hat at Christmas and pull out one and send £20 to that person. A few days ago I got a £20 voucher from the ower thanking me for my custom in 2013. My only sad point about this holiday was I could not cuddle the Alpacas as the owner they are not very friendly.

Excellent rural accomodation - clean, spacious and quiet with all home comforts and much appreciated extras like fresh eggs, olive oil, coffee etc. Great base to explore this part of Gloucestershire and near to Bath and Bristol. We visited Slimbridge, Dyrham Park and Newark Park, also went to Bath for the day using the Park and Ride. We combined our stay with three nights in Bristol for a city fix. Ran out of time at Little Swanley so will return at some stage!
