Refurbished to a high standard and set in a quiet and private location within the grounds of a 16th Century farmhouse, Standen Granary offers a convenient base for exploring Kent and the South East. A small but very cosy property, it has a modern studio style living and kitchen area downstairs (the beamed ceiling is low - 6'2' so unsuitable for very tall guests!). Upstairs the double bedroom is beautifully furnished and features a vaulted, beamed ceiling giving a cosy, romantic atmosphere. A glazed door leads to a private balcony where you can enjoy the sun. Off the bedroom lies the superbly fitted shower room. Ample secure parking behind electric gates.
The Granary is wonderfully situated for sightseeing and exploring Kent and the South-East. It is right next door to a wonderful golf course, designed by Nick Faldo, if you are a golf enthusiast. Other interesting attractions are the many National Trust properties around Kent and East Sussex, the nearest being Sissinghurst Castle Gardens 10 mins drive away, the wonderful Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway in Tenterden, 15mins drive away, and Headcorn airfield which is home to vintage aircraft and where you can do a skydive if you prefer something a little more daring. Local award winning vineyards offer guided tours and Biddenden has its very own Michelin starred restaurant, The West House, for the food enthusiast, though book early to avoid disappointment. The nearest beach is Camber Sands about 45mins drive, a long stretch of sandy beach perfect for long walks, or Folkestone beach where you can search for amazing fossils.
We would recommend a car for your stay here. Rural bus services would take too long for all the fabulous places you have to visit. The nearest restaurant that you could walk to from the Granary is a very good Indian restaurant but if you just want to stay in, they will deliver to your door! Biddenden is a mile away, where you will find a wonderful little coffee shop, a pub, a post office, a hairdresser, two restaurants (one Michelin starred) and a Chinese takeaway. We have often walked home after an evening in the pub on a warm summer night. If you are happy to drive, then there are some wonderful pubs and restaurants a short distance away by car.
The nearest train station is Headcorn, a 7 minute drive away, with trains twice an hour to London. The journey to London takes approximately an hour.
The Eurotunnel is a 40min drive away if you want to pop over to France for lunch!
Pets are welcome by prior arrangement but please note the garden is enclosed, but not dog proof, so we advise keeping watch if off the lead. We charge a £25 supplement per pet, per week.
Bed linen, towels, tea towels, electricity and wifi are included in the price so there are no hidden extras. The only supplement you would be asked to pay would be if you are bringing a pet. The wifi is good and normally reliable, but because we are rural, can be slow from time to time. Unfortunately mobile signal is not good in our area, you may have to stand in the garden for a decent signal.
Minimum 2 night stay Long lets are considered during Low Season.
My husband and I live just up the garden path and are normally available if you need anything, we are always happy to help.
We look forward to having you to stay!

We had a fantastic week at 'The Granary'. A beautiful environment, a lovely and cozy cottage with all possible amenities and extremely friendly and helpful owners. This was our first time but not the last one: we will definitely return!
