If you're searching for a break which will give you either a base for exploring this lovely part of Cornwall, or just somewhere to hide out and relax away from the hustle and bustle of life, you've found it with Squirrel Cottage.

Snuggled into a corner of a converted 300 year old Cornish stone barn, the Cottage is a cosy two-bedroom property ideal for a couple wanting space to spread out and take some time for themselves. The accommodation is all on the ground floor, has its own entrance, a dedicated parking space and a grassed garden area with a picnic bench, parasol and Weber BBQ.

To the left of the entrance hall is a comfy sitting room with two sofas, TV, Freeview and a DVD player. The sitting room looks out onto the garden where you can watch the blue tits, robin and nuthatch on the bird feeders as well as the acrobatic squirrels. Through the sitting room, are the two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed and wardrobe and the twin has two single beds, bedside table and a hanging rail. The beds are made up with high quality linen and there are hairdryers in both rooms. They're south-facing rooms and enjoy the afternoon sunshine. At night, there are no street lights to disturb you, just the sound of the owls from the woods. There's a small shower room with an electric shower, WC and a wash basin with towels and a bath mat already there for you.

Back through the sitting room, you have a separate dining kitchen looking on to the garden at the side of the cottage. You can enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the table with the pretty Port Meirion Blue Botanic crockery before setting off to visit Cornish landmarks for the day or stepping out to explore the grounds. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric hob, oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge, ice box and a wealth of utensils. You'll find a washing-up starter pack, oven gloves and tea towel as well as a welcome hamper.

Some guests find that they don't leave the site as there's plenty to do with walks around the lake, bird-spotting in the hide, choosing your favourite picnic spot and going off grid with a book and a bottle of wine, finding your inner-child on the rope swings, having a game of boules on the court or even fishing for salmon or trout in the river. There's also a fire pit in the grounds which is another perfect spot for watching the soaring buzzards and listening to the river.

If you are exploring further afield, you'll have the perfect base. Rivermead Cottages are about half-way between Bodmin and Liskeard. Bodmin Moor is 5 minutes away by car, and Looe, Charlestown, Fowey and Lostwithiel can be reached in less than 20 minutes. There's a host of attractions within easy reach such as the NT gardens at Lanhydrock, the Eden Project, Golitha Falls and Lantic Bay. You'll find a wealth of information leaflets and suggested walks in the Rod Room.

What a wonderful place

By C Hahn on 04-Sep-2017

We had superb week at Rivermead Farm. Starting with warm welcome by the hosts and welcome basket deluxe (I never saw so many delicious things as a welcome gift in a holiday cottage), the really spacious grounds with lots of things to do for the kids, the lovely interiour of the cottages, a more then well equipped kitchen and a BBQ outside, Rivermead Farm is located perfectly for trips to many sights, the sea, the moor and many places more. And then there were TC and Wellington! We travelled with two families including 4 kids age 5 to 12 and EVERYBODY was happy! But unfortunatly we had just one week... I hope we can come back some day. 5.0 / 5.0

Half Term Break

By CFrancis on 08-Jun-2017

Had a fantastic time at Salmon, Kevin and Marjorie are both very friendly and helpful. The accommodation had everything you could possibly need - a home from home - and was perfect for a family of 4. The grounds are fantastic and kept both my boys entertained when not out visiting other Cornish delights. Will definitely be going back in the near future, but hopefully for a longer period this time. 5.0 / 5.0
