One bed cottage close to Dartmoor National Park And South Hams Area Of Devon
Apple Loft Cottage,a converted stone barn is situated down a quiet single track lane just one mile from Buckfastleigh. Set within four acres of land in a valley with the river Dart running along the back of the property, it is surrounded by rolling Devon farmland and is just minutes from Dartmoor National Park.

Apple Loft Cottage, whilst attached to the owners B&B, is very private and has its own patio area but with the added benefit of the 4 acre grounds around it. The cottage consists of a lounge/dining area with an oak beamed ceiling and three windows looking out to the patio area and gardens. The kitchen leads off of the lounge and is well equipped with everything you need to rustle up a delicious meal. The downstairs shower room, whilst compact, is of a contemporary style with shower cubicle and power shower and a wash bowl mounted on a shaker style cabinet. The characterful bedroom is located upstairs under another beamed ceiling with windows on both sides. The cottage is furnished with flair and is of a very high standard and is a mix of antique and contemporary furniture. There is off-road parking for one car in front of the cottage.

The cottage is one mile from the centre of Buckfastleigh which is an easy 10 minuted stroll to the high street. Buckfastleigh has a good selection of amenities including a supermarket that is open daily early to late, a farm shop selling local produce, several pubs, a great family run restaurant, a coffee shop and a traditional tearoom. Locally there are several other farm shops selling high quality local produce including Dean Court Farm shop and Riverford Organics.

There are many great places to eat out within the local area - including The Riverford Field Kitchen, The Cott Inn at Dartington, The Church House Inn at Rattery to name just a few.

Some of the attractions close to the cottage include Buckfast Abbey, the South Devon Railway, the Butterfly farm and otter sanctuary, Riverford Field Kitchen and The Ashburton Cookery School. Dartington Hall Estate is close by with its wonderful gardens and parkland, numerous art based courses and productions ,The Elizabethan town of Totnes is just 6 miles away, and the coastal towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe just 45 minutes by car.

Description of sleeping capacity: Sleeps 2 (1 Bedroom) Notes on bedrooms: On the first floor, the cosy bedroom with vaulted beamed ceiling, has a wrought iron frame king-size bed. There is an antique pine dressing table and a French armoire, two painted side tables, carpet on the floor and pretty linen Roman blinds.
Notes on accommodation:
There is free WiFi in the cottage, TV & DVD player.
The cottage is heated by gas central heating, with radiators in all rooms. In addition, in the lounge there is a contemporary style wall-mounted electric fire which quickly heats up the room on chillier evenings. There is insufficient space for a travel cot or fold-up bed, so the maximum number of guests allowed in the cottage is two, with a minimum age of eight if a child is included in the couple. There is a strict no smoking policy and pets are not allowed without express consent of the owners.

Outside:
Parking for the cottage is right outside the cottage on a cobbled area by the front door. To the side of the cottage, there is a patio area enclosed by a stone wall with garden table and chairs. This looks down towards a pond and the orchard beyond. The main house sits in about 4 acres of grounds, and guests are welcome to use the main garden belonging to the B&B which consists of a large lawned area with sun loungers and seats, flowers beds, trees and shrubs. You can walk down to the river from the meadow behind the house.
The gardens are quiet and relaxing, with water running down a rill in to the pond. To the back of the house, the South Devon Railway (a tourist attraction) runs from April to October, with steam trains tooting as they pass.

Utility Room:
There is no utility room but should guests require any items to be laundered, we are happy to do this usually free of charge.

Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service:
Quality towels and bed linen are provided, together with bathrobes. These are changed once a week and the cottage is also cleaned on a weekly basis.

A little Devon Gem

By Dave & Jan on 02-Oct-2018

The fact that we have been coming back to The Apple Loft for the last 5 years speaks for itself! The presentation and cleanliness are superb and Julia and Martin have gone out of their way to make this little cottage a very comfortable home-from-home. The décor is beautiful and comfort is paramount including a sumptuous new mattress this time round! The location is just around the corner from the South Devon Steam Railway which takes you on a delightful journey along the River Dart to the charming town of Totnes. For those who enjoy the seaside, Buckfastleigh offers good access to the South Devon Coast. As walkers, we love the many and varied walks in the Dartmoor National Park which is close by. Buckfast Abbey (free entry) is also nearby and is worth a visit, with the splendour of the Abbey itself and the beautiful garden and excellent café. Many of the surrounding villages have pubs and inns, one of our favourites being the famous village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor.

High Quality Cottage ideally placed for Dartmoor and the South Hams

By John & Pam on 25-Sep-2018

We have stayed at Apple Tree Cottage several times before and its always clear how proud Julia and Martin are of the property. On arrival there was welcoming essential food provided (including a Delicious Cake), so we would have been well cared for had we arrived late. Each time we have stayed, you can see the investment Julia and Martin have made since we last visited. This year the courtyard area outside was newly paved, and there was a new (comfortable) mattress on the king-sized bed. We will have no hesitation in recommending Apple Tree Cottage to our friends and relatives. There is a comprehensive list provided of local places to eat, and Sunday Lunch at the Cott Inn in Dartington lived up to its usual high standard. We also dined at a new restaurant in Ashburton called The Old Library, which was full even on a very wet and windy evening, we chose Cod from the specials menu which was really excellent. We are National Trust members so several places we visited were from their handbook, notably an interesting visit to Killerton.

Lovely cottage set in beautiful grounds and good location

By Christine on 10-Jul-2018

Lovely cottage furnished to a very high standard and set in beautiful grounds .It was a real bonus having access to the river dart from the grounds on a hot day and so refreshing. Just when you thought it couldn't get more idyllic, a stream train crosses the bridge over the river! Situated in a great location with easy access to Dartmoor and coastal areas. Julia and Martin were both friendly and welcoming hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was truly heaven in Devon and we will visit again!

We had a great week in Apple Loft cottage. It’s very cosy and well equipped, plus the garden is lovely to sit out in when the weather allows. Location is good too, with easy access to the coast and Dartmoor. Would highly recommended.

A little Devonshire gem

By Jan on 01-May-2017

Without doubt, Apple Loft Cottage is top of our list of holiday cottages. It is set in a perfect location in the grounds of a gorgeous Devon farmhouse. The cosy cottage is beautifully decorated with carefully chosen, top-quality furniture and is packed with character and immaculately clean throughout. The friendly owners, Julia and Martin, supply the warmest of welcomes including the supply of fresh flowers, milk, home-made cake and more. On the doorstep is the wonderful South Devon Steam railway which runs along the River Dart to the market town of Totnes. It is also well placed for walking on Dartmoor and has easy access to the south coast beaches and cities of Exeter and Plymouth. Roll on September when it will wrap itself around us once again!
