Sundale is a 200 year old cottage just three miles from beautiful National Trust beaches and five miles from the lovely seaside town of Bude, North Cornwall. The cottage has comfortable living accommodation, a wood burner within an inglenook fireplace, a separate dining area, three bedrooms (one double, one bunk room and one small double*), a downstairs bathroom and newly refurbished upstairs shower room** with WC. The kitchen is very well equipped with Neff appliances and all mod cons including dishwasher, fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.
The cottage has been tastefully decorated and furnished throughout. All beds, mattresses and bedding are new as are the sofas downstairs. We allow up to two well behaved dogs for a small charge, but ask that they do not go upstairs or on the furniture.
The spacious and sunny cottage garden contains a patio with garden dining table to seat six, seasonally changing flower borders and a lawned area ideal for sunbathing and play. There is even a fully stocked herb bed – help yourselves!
Sundale has fast and free Wifi, DAB radios in both double rooms, and a TV and DVD player in the living room. There is an extensive DVD library suitable for all ages and lots of books and board games to keep everyone amused. The outside store room contains beach toys, a surf board and boogie boards for guests to borrow.
Kilkhampton is a friendly village with two lovely traditional pubs both serving delicious pub meals, a well-stocked Co-op just a few steps away from the cottage, two further corner shops, a butcher and a farm shop on the outskirts of the village. There is also a fish & chip shop and a Chinese takeaway. Three miles away, Sandymouth and Duckpool beaches, both managed by the National Trust, are stunning and well worth a visit and there are some wonderful walks in the area. Bude itself has two lovely family friendly beaches, Summerleaze and Crooklets, both with nearby cafes and plenty of parking. A mile or two down the coast from Bude, Widemouth and Black Rock beaches are also fantastic with miles of golden sand and beautiful scenery. Both have car parks and you can take dogs onto Black Rock beach all year round.
In recent years Bude has really come up in the world with lots of lovely places to eat, independent shops and local chains. Look up Life’s a Beach and The Tree Inn (in Stratton) to whet your appetite. There are wonderful places to visit in the area such as Boscastle, Padstow, Port Isaac, Milky Way adventure park for the kids and places like the Eden Project, Truro and the Minack Theatre which are further afield but still easily accessible.
We are excited to welcome guests to Sundale and share this wonderful part of the world. Please contact us if you have any questions at all about Sundale or the local area.
*please note that the second double room is very compact (although comfortable) and the bed is only accessible from one side **taller guests should be aware that the upstairs electric shower is height and width restricted

Many thanks to Becky and Tom for the use of their cottage for our recent holiday and the information for dog walking, dining out and beaches to visit.
We visited Summerleaze, Crooklets,Northcott and Sandymouth-walked the coastal path, went on the beach and grandchildren had fabulous time bodyboarding and surfing the waves. Something for everyone here and all within a short distance.
Everything you needed for cooking and dining in or just pop to the London Inn or the New Inn for a really enjoyable meal. The local chippy and Chinese take away were also excellent.
Thanks for the excellent information and help you provided and all done in record time too!!
A wonderful cottage
By Zoe Hodson on 03-Aug-2019
Just returned from a week here and it has to be one of the nicest places that we have stayed. The welcome basket was swooped on by 3 children and there were many 'oohs' and 'aahs' as the bunk beds, body boards, plentiful games and DVDs were spotted. The garden was a lovely place to relax and the interior stocked with everything that we could have needed. We were in easy reach of Bude and several quieter beaches that were great for bodyboarding. Northcott was a favourite with the caravan selling excellent cream teas set back from the beach. We will definitely be returning and hopefully bring a little less Manchester rain with us next time xx

We stayed for a week in Sundale, it’s a quaint cosy cottage with everything you need. The beautiful secluded garden at the back Is perfectly secure for dogs. The kitchen doors opening up on to the patio area, made eating outside easy and convenient. Very handy having the co-op next door if you’ve forgotten anything.
The Local pub is 3 doors down and serves great food. The locals are friendly and welcoming.
The beaches are fab, with many to choose from our teenagers boys particularly enjoyed body boarding. The coastline for walking is stunning. Check out the sunset! Boscastle is a picturesque village and well worth a visit.

I stayed at Sundale cottage with my family (my husband and my two daughters, 3 and 5 years old). We had a lovely time at the cottage. There were toys and books for the girls to play with. And there is an impressive DVD collection to choose from. The cottage is comfortable and lovingly decorated. A hamper was waiting for us when we arrived with Cornish goods and chocolate bunnies and presents for the girls.
A Co-op is 1 min away, which is really useful. Bude is 10 mins driving away with a great beach and restaurants. The cottage is well located between Cornwall and Devon, with many things to do and visit (Clovelly, Milky way, Tamar Otter wildlife centre, Tintagel...). Becky and Tom are great hosts, checking that everything was going well during our stay.
Cornwall is a beautiful place and I highly recommend Sundale cottage if you want to stay in the area.
Thank you so much for a great holiday!
Amazing October half-term holiday at Sundale Cottage!
By Nicky on 20-Oct-2018
We stayed in this beautiful cottage during the October half-term week, myself, hubby our 7yr old son and our 2 dogs. This cottage is truly home from home, with everything one could possibly need! The wood burner was all ready to go when we arrived, so easy to get going. The gorgeous kitchen is fully equipped with top quality pots & pans, cutlery, and plenty of glass and dinnerwear for a large family or 3. The beds were so so comfortable the best we have slept in away from home. My son loved the bunk beds, he was so excited to go to bed! The garden was stunning, totally enclosed and safe for exploring dogs. The living room is cosy, lots of games and dvds to keep you busy for quite sometime. The co-op is just a few meters down the road, as are the pub and chip shop, I must say the fish from there was lovely, I was stunned by how cheap it was compared to at home. Bude town is picturesque with a good variety of shops and places to eat, we had great Cornish pasties from Pengenna.
We were lucky with the weather and spent most days body boarding and walking the dogs on the various beaches all within a short distance from Sundale. The body boards were in the outside store room, along with buckets & spades, picnic basket and anything else you may need for a beach day out.
We all had a truly wonderful time at Sundale Cottage and can not wait to go back again.

I can only recommend this beautiful cottage in north Cornwall / Kilkhampton. I stayed there with 2 friends and my friend’s dog at the end of September. The cottage has been thoughtfully decorated with a cosy and large sitting / dining room area that has a log burner which was so easy to use that we had it on every night and hundreds of DVDs that you can choose to watch! A selection of books is also provided should the weather not be as good as we were lucky to have.
The rooms are all very tidy and there is a big kitchen and beautiful gardens. Indeed the weather was so good at the end of September that we sunbathed in the garden on the sun loungers provided after a day of walking in beautiful nearby Hartland. The 3 bedrooms were lovingly decorated too with very comfy beds. I slept like a log.
In terms of location, there is plenty to do around the area, a costa walk and watching the sunset in nearby Sandymouth and Duckpool is a must for anyone who loves coastal walks.
Bude is also only a short drive away, again great for walks and food.
The village of Kilkhampton has everything you need, two lovely pubs with good food, there is a co-op right next to the cottage so you don’t need to bring anything and can buy everything you need for breakfast, sandwiches and dinner there or there is a bigger Morrissons only a short drive away.
Thank you for the lovely hamper basket that greeted us with Cornish biscuits, Marmelade, crisps and more. We very much enjoyed these during our stay and walks and can’t wait to go back!

Our family has just returned from a lovely weeks stay at Sundale.
The cottage is lovely and the owners have thought of everything to make your stay fun & enjoyable.
Our boys loved the cottage, there was a great choice of board games and dvds which they enjoyed after a busy day exploring Bude. Even our days on the beach were catered for as there were deckchairs and beach items we could borrow for the day.
There is a lovely pub a few doors down which serves great food and the cottage is close to Both Bude and widemouth beaches.
We look forward to visiting again in the future.
By Stokes Family on 12-Aug-2018
We spent 2 weeks in this fabulous cottage in Kilkhampton.
When we arrived we had a lovely hamper with chutney, biscuits, local crisps a nice welcome.
This place makes your holiday easy, the kitchen has everything you need, a fully working dishwasher was a nice to have.
Tumble dryer was well used after regular visits to the beach.
The cottage has a lovely sized garden and patio area which we would sit and relax in.
The owners have an assortment of body boards, buckets and spades, windbreak all less stuff to take with you on hols.
We had a few cloudy days so putting on the log burner and going through the DVD collection which would probably put NETFLIX to shame..... There is something for everyone plus loads of board games.
The lounge is a nice sized area with 2 big comfy sofas and a dining area.
Upstairs our kids shared the bunks, the main room bed was very comfortable. We didn't need the 3Rd room which has a small double.
Decent bathroom with shower upstairs and bath and toilet facilities just off the kitchen.
20 seconds walk from the front door is a Co Op supermarket which was really handy, in the village a great fish and chips shop and butchers. Although there are 2 pubs we didn't get the chance.
Although there is no parking its no problem always space on the main road, just tuck your mirrors in!
The beach at sandy mouth is 4 miles away so 10 minutes drive with easy parking, National Trust so great if a member.
Loads to do around the area we would recommend the Bude area.
Overall we would give this place a massive thumbs up

Our stay at Sundale Cottage
By Sandra And Andy Roden on 17-Jun-2018
We had a super time in the cottage. Log burner was a bonus. Bed super comfortable. Fresh bed linen. Radio in every bedroom. I pod player in the kitchen. Kitchen with every gadget you could ever ask for. Lovely welcome pack so we could have a tea/coffee straight away. A few doors down from the Co-op so great! Lovely big sunny garden to enjoy. Separate shower and bath so no queing! Parking near the cottage - we parked in the free car park all the time - a short walk away. Two pubs minutes away by foot. Close to Bude and lots of the surrounding attractions. You must visit Sandymouth beach and do the coastal walk from Sandymouth to Crooklets and then on to Bude. Hartland Quay visit is a must - you can walk to the waterfall from there. Also a must is The Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre. Go in the afternoon but get there for the 1500 birds and prey and otter talk.
Top Cottage for children and adults!
By Laura Ross on 27-May-2018
We have just had the most wonderful stay at Sundale. The cottage was fantastically kitted out and suited us perfectly. We ended up being a party of 3 adults and two children. My children aged 2 and 6 loved the garden and it's secret screened area as well as playing on the lawn. We enjoyed lunch in the garden together and the peace of mind knowing it was totally secure. Just a very short walk down the road is a very well stocked CoOp which was really useful.
My youngest had never slept in a 'big bed' but the bunk beds were a huge hit and they both loved it. I took a bed guard with me so no bumps in the night. All the bedding and towels were provided and everything was kept to a very high standard.
We had one rainy afternoon but the HUGE collection of DVDs meant we could curl up on the sofas and argue about which one to watch. We didn't need to light the fire but it was left ready to light just in case. The thought and attention to detail to our comfort was really lovely.
This holiday we discovered wetsuits and boogie boarding! We had endless fun in the sea (thanks to Sundale for letting us borrow the boards). Our favourite beach was Crooklets and we enjoyed having a snack at Rosie's kitchen after (which has a play area right next to the cafe). The beach was beautifully kept without trace of litter. Our other recommendation would be The Milky Way Adventure Park. For younger children it was perfect, it had heaps of space, home cooked award winning food and loads to do! Rides, slides, bumper cars, ride on tractors, train rides and displays....and plenty more!
We look forward to our next visit very much!!
Lovely memories made at Sundale Cottage
By Lorraine on 04-Mar-2018
I stayed in Sundale cottage a couple of years ago in August with my sister and seven year old nephew.
We had an amazing holiday, the cottage itself was warm and welcoming we felt at home as soon as we walked through the door.
It is in a small village not far from Bude but there are two beaches right on your doorstep which we visited frequently with a picnic and beach games to play with my nephew.
There are also wetsuits and body boards in the cottage which we would take down to the beach, my nephew loved paddling around on these.
There was plenty for us to do in our week and especially keeping a seven year old occupied.
There is The Milky Way adventure park, there's bowling, we took a swan boat out on the lake where you pedal yourself, there's trails, castle and beautiful stunning costal walks.
We would often return finishing our day playing bowls in the garden which is a lovely size and kept immaculate.
The kitchen is well equipped so we found that we cooked a few evenings but there are also two pubs in the village, walking distance from the cottage which both do great food.
We would certainly go back again, my nephew who is nine now has many wonderful, fun memories of his holiday in Cornwall.
Sundale is a real home from home

We have stayed in Sundale several times. This well presented cottage offers you a home from home experience. From the cosy sitting room with Inglenook fireplace to the pet and child friendly garden this cottage is a perfect retreat close to all amenities including pubs, beach and supermarket.
Gorgeous stay at Sundale Cottage
By Lynne Abbott on 24-Sep-2017
Sundale Cottage is an absolute little gem! The moment you walk through the front door, the beautiful decor welcomes you in - nothing is overwhelming or jarring, just harmonious and cosy .... but above all, it is also practical! The owners have clearly gone to great lengths to ensure that your stay in Cornwall is completely stress-free, so the cottage is fully equipped with all mod cons, indoor entertainments such as a lovely selection of videos, games and books and a good sized garden for sun-bathing or a bar-b-cue. The kitchen is especially wonderful for the enthusiastic cook, with every implement, pot, pan, crock ... you name it! ... which you could ever wish for! A huge bonus for us is that our beloved pooch is also welcome (and loved the wood-burner!) - a rare find! The photographs here certainly do Sundale Cottage justice! It is as gorgeous as it looks with all the beauty of the stunning Cornwall countryside and coastline just moments away. We have had no hesitation whatsoever in recommending it to friends, family and colleagues.
our stay in this pretty Cottage in Kilkhampton
By Mo Linton on 26-Jul-2017
my daughters and I had the most wonderful stay in Becky and Tom's beautiful cottage. This is the 2nd year we stayed here as we loved it so much in 2016. The cottage is genuinely homely and cozy with 3 bedrooms for six people to share. The beds were so comfortable and no expense was spared to provide nice linen and sheets. Towels were included too which was a bonus. A Lovely sized lounge diner with TV, open real fireplace (cozy even in August) and comfortable furniture to sit on. We loved the fact there were a range of games to play (including a new version of Monopoly which my girls embraced) and an array of DVD's to suit every discerning family on their hols! The kitchen was spacious, extremely clean and modern but with a real homely feel; the kitchen bar brought the family together and really adds to the character of the kitchen. The garden is well tended to and expansive and has outdoor furniture to enable food, drink and sun to be consumed! The washing machine and tumble dryer were also an additional bonus.
We were sadly not blessed with scorching hot weather but this cottage is so ideally based in North Cornwall near Bude (4 miles i believe) to allow a wonderful exploration of the cornwall western coast. The poorish weather didnt stop us sampling the beaches which are beyond beuatuful - maybe were biased but probably some of the most atrcative beaches that the UK has to offer; Sandymouth and Crooklets were untouched by commercialism and the walk recommended by Becky between these beaches was perfect. The walk was not strenuous for even young children and older folks alike but the views of the coast are stunning. Walks from port Isaac to Port Quin (6 miles) were great and Tintagel castle and Boscastle are only a 50 min drive away. Trebarwith Strand is also worth a visit.
There are two pubs literally within walking distance; if its pints you're after then the New Inn is ideal although food wise and for comforts we preferred the London Inn which had massive portions for excellent value.
we cant thank Becky and Tom enough for allowing us to sample their beautiful home and we know we will be coming back again in the near future.
Lovely winter break at Sundale!
By Ben Hastings on 18-Feb-2017
The cottage is lovely. Thanks to the wood-burning stove it's even warm in winter. The kitchen is beautifully equipped, beds comfortable.
Convenience shops within a few minutes' walk, and some wonderful countryside, seaside towns and attractions very close.
October half term 2016 stay in this lovely cottage
By Merrett Family on 29-Oct-2016
One of the best-kept secrets in Cornwall. Beautifully decorated and roomy cottage with all mod cons in sleepy village with the delights of Bude just up the road. Loads of amenities within a short walk, including a fantastic butchers that makes incredible scotch eggs...
