Great family holiday home
By Joanne D. on 13-Aug-2019
Nick's house is great for a family holiday. It is beautifully furnished with everything you might need. The rooms are very spacious, and 2 bathrooms/3 toilets very helpful with a larger group.
We particularly enjoyed the lovely large sitting room, which was great in the evenings. The outside space was fab for teenage boys, with endless ping pong games.
The house is set within beautiful scenary, and there are many great places to visit within close proximity. Favourites included La Ferte Mace lake/beach, kayaking at Ambrieres les Vallee and the lovely town of Domfront.
Pretty much a perfect place to stay...we would love to return.

We are a family of 4 with two grown up boys wanting a last minute holiday around Normandy. La Didillere came up as available and I almost didn't look at it as I thought the photo of the front of the property almost looked unfinished but saw the 5* reviews so delved deeper. The photos and description of the inside sounded perfect as did the previous reviews so decided to take the plunge. I was so glad I did as it really was ideal for us, a true home from home. All the rooms were spacious and very well thought out so we could all be together but still get on with our own thing if we felt like it. We have stayed in 3 other very nice properties in different regions of France on separate occasions but La Dadillere has topped the bill for us so far with the homely feel, location and facilities it offers. The kitchen was well equipped with all the extras like washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing machine tablets, kitchen towel, bin liners, loads of extra toilet rolls...basically everything I went to find I found it - even a really good assortment of herbs and spices. When we arrived there was fresh bread, Camembert, crackers, cider, beer and pop for us to tuck into - so thoughtful. The Barn although rural is off a very good road (one of the main roads into Domfront 10 mins away) down a lane and then a short track which leads you to a little hamlet where there were 4 or 5 other properties close by. La Dadillere was very private though and the outside area was spacious. We mainly used the spacious back gravelled area which ran along the back of the house and was accessed from the kitchen. This was an ideal spot for relaxing, playing table tennis, cooking BBQ and eating. It was not overlooked and the sun was in this area pretty much the whole day. We had a lovely time exploring the local area which has much to offer. My initial itinerary went out the window once I had read the very useful visitors book which gave us some great places to visit which I would have never considered. We also went a little further out and St Malo and Mont St Michel were an easy distance away along with La Fleche Zoo. Even though our boys are 20 & 16 there was plenty to keep them entertained both in the house and outside and although the lack of wi fi was a bit of an issue at first for them this soon got forgotten - they didn't even use the xbox at the property! Week was not long enough - would love to go back. Thank you Nick and Julie

The pictures and description do not do this property justice at all. A beautiful, top class conversion, with excellent outside space. Peaceful and quiet, a bit rural, but ideal if that's what you are after, and easy travelling on good roads. Literally everything we could have wanted was there. We could not fault the property or its contents, and the area is just stunning. A perfect family holiday.

Quiet, modern, clean & spacious. Great location for a rural setting. Easy drive to the forests near Domfront and the Mont st Michael on the coast. Julie and Nick encourage you to treat La Dadillere like your own home with everything you need already in place. No need for a shopping trip en route.
The kids loved the table top football, x-box and table tennis - makes all the difference when you arrive home from a day out to have the kids entertained whilst you prepare dinner!

Julie and Nick have a truly hidden gem in La Dadillere, near Ceauce, France. We have stayed in a few property's in France but have always found them to be quite basic and in need of a good clean, but this property surpassed all our hopes. Set down a country lane the converted farm building offers all you could wish for in a holiday home. Spotlessly clean, comfy beds, superb quality furnishings and fittings. A huge lounge with very comfy sofa's, a large screen tv with sky and a games console to while away the evenings. The well appointed kitchen has everything that you need. Two sets of double doors lead from the lounge and dining area onto a small courtyard where we spent many hours over a lazy breakfast or lunch. A gift of local bread, cheese and cider was very welcome after the journey down.
Although off the beaten track the property is within reach of some lovely day out destinations, we drove to Mont Saint-Michel although didn't take the climb to the top, then onto St Malo, with its beautiful beach and old fashioned shops. But make sure you travel south to the zoo at La Fleche, a couple of hours drive but so worth the journey, very clean, well laid out, and to see the big cats, penguins and seals so close up was a real treat, most of the enclosures have massive glass panels so that you can get some fantastic photo's, but star of the day was the polar bear, huge glass panels mean that you can stand next to him as he swims past - we were fascinated.
In the house there is a book with lots of comments about places to visit and where to eat, we tried the Grill in nearby Domfront which was open most days and served good honest food, the waitresses have an understanding of English so that helped. A good range of pavement cafes and restaurants were in Bagnoles de L'Orne, a very pretty lake to walk round followed by hot chocolate and crepes whilst watching the world go by.
La Dadillere is the type of holiday home that you can just walk into unpack and get on with your holiday, we didn't want to leave at the end of the week and will definitely be booking again in 2016.
Excellent holiday home

Lovely barn, modern, comfortable and very well equipped. We all had a great holiday and would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely place to stay in France. Lots to do within the house and a lovely house/garden to relax in. If the sun comes out the garden is the perfect place to be, so peaceful. Children will also be entertained and lots of lovely places to visit in the surrounding areas. Hope to go back again one day.

What a superb barn conversion - everything is clearly of high quality and the workmanship is excellent. We enjoyed the spacious rooms, each uncluttered yet tastefully and comfortably furnished. The housekeeping was all one could hope for and the owners couldn't have been more helpful.
And what a peaceful spot - just what we wanted. The whole area is beautiful with a plethora of varied scenery and much to see.
We would, without hesitation, recommend this property to anyone who was looking for tranquillity in rural Normandy.
