We are happy to have small dogs as extra guests. We provide plenty of sun loungers, bed chairs etc for the use of our guests.
Bergerac airport is 45 minutes away by car and is served by Ryanair and occasional flights by British Airways from London City. Alternatively, Easyjet and British Airways have many flights to Bordeaux which is about a 2 hour drive. If travelling by car the nearest motorway is the A89 and once coming off the motorway at Perigueux it is a 40 minute drive to the house.
The house is a 10 minute walk from the village of Le Coux-et-Bigaroque which boasts a bar, wine cave (run by an Irishman and his English wife - so no language problems) a wonderful bakers/patisserie, a shop selling local produce, a small hotel/restaurant and a post office. There is also a lovely plage which has access on to River Dordogne. The town of Siorac-en-Perigord which is less than 1 mile away, has a superb supermarket, pharmacy and bakers and one of the best restaurants in the area. The area is exceptionally well served by markets and people travel some distance to visit the Sunday market at St Cyprien which is only a couple of miles from Le Coux. (see photo gallery)
THINGS TO DO AND SEE
Les Eyzies and its famous prehistoric museum is just a 20 minute drive and beyond that are the wonderful caves at Lascaux, a World Heritage site. The towns of Sarlat and Domme are 20-30 minutes drive from the house. The chateaux of Beynac, Milandes and many others are also very close. The river Dordogne runs through the village and has a small plage which in high season has a small pop-up food outlet selling drinks, sandwiches and some hot food. Canoes can be picked up at various locations along the river including the pretty villages of Limeuil, St Cyprien, Beynac, Roque Gageac and the local town of Siorac-en-Perigord.
For families with young children there are a variety of activities - all within a 20 minute drive from the house. At Le Bugue there is a wonderful Aquarium (good for a dull day). The site there also has an excellent mini golf course and a new climbing experience called "BigBird". Just up the road from the house is a water park called Etangs du Bos which has water slides and all manner of water activities and just beyond that is the famous Gouffre de Proumeysac (Glass Cathedral) which, if you choose, you can descend into via a cage! At Journiac, the other side of Le Bugue there is an activity park which has an Aquatic Lagoon, a Lazzer City and other activities. Again this is only 20 minutes from Le Coux. Going out through St Cyprien towards Beynac at St Vincent-de-Cosse there is a climbing activity which goes over the river. Canoes can also be hired from St Vincent so you can enjoy two activities in one place, if you so wish. Many of these can be booked in advance and in high season this is something we would thoroughly recommend - it avoids the queues and possible disappointment.
There are many superb restaurants in the surrounding villages and towns and in high season (July-August) the villages hold night markets, selling food and drinks. Long tables are laid out, all you need is your own cutlery, set yourself up and wander around and choose from the vast choice of food available. If you wish, you could go to one every evening without travelling too far. The roads around the markets are closed to traffic which make them all very family friendly. (See photo gallery).
BOOKING THE HOUSE
Once you have indicated that you wish to reserve the house we pass on your information to a local agency who will send out a formal contract and collect the deposit and the final payment. The keys to the house will be collected from their office which is very nearby. They are also on hand throughout the stay to deal with any queries which may arise. We have found that this works extremely well as this gives guests peace of mind that help is not too far away if required (as opposed to over 500 miles away in the UK!) However, you are still booking the house direct with us, the owners, so we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Please note that the price per week is shown in EUROS not STERLING.
FINALLY - INSURANCE
We strongly recommend that you take out a holiday insurance that allows you to cancel your holiday and obtain a full refund if travel restrictions are imposed, for whatever reason.
