UPDATE ON THE LOCAL AREA - JUNE 2020: We have been informed by friends living in the area that there are no queues at the supermarkets, daily markets are open as usual as are the restaurants, canoes, local waterpark (2 miles up the road from the house) and other general sites of interest.
4 Bedroomed house with three bathrooms situated in the village of Le Coux et Bigaroque, 1 mile from Siorac-en-Perigord on the river Dordogne.
The house in set in its own grounds with a 10 x 5 swimming pool and has a large lounge/dining area, fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave etc. There is a tumble drier in the downstairs shower room. The swimming pool is not opened for use until mid-late May.
Bedroom 1: This is on the ground floor and has a standard double bed with access to the adjacent downstairs shower room and toilet.
Bedroom 2: The main bedroom has a king sized bed and benefits from an en-suite,
Bedroom 3: King sized bed
Bedroom 4: Two 3' single beds
Bedrooms 3 and 4 share the family bathroom on the first floor. There is space in all of the rooms for a cot so the total accommodation is 8 + 1 baby
The outside area has several eating/sitting spaces allowing guests to enjoy basking in the sun if they wish or languish in the shade if they prefer. There is ample parking for at least 4 cars. We are happy to have small dogs as extra guests.
The house is a 10 minute walk from the village of Le Coux-et-Bigaroque which boasts a bar, wine cave (run by an Irishman and his English wife - so no language problems) a wonderful bakers/patisserie, a shop selling local produce, a small hotel/restaurant and a post office. There is also a lovely plage which has access on to River Dordogne. The town of Siorac-en-Perigord which is less than 1 mile away, has a superb supermarket, pharmacy and bakers. The area is exceptionally well served by markets and people travel some distance to visit the Sunday market at St Cyprien which is only a couple of miles from Le Coux.
Bergerac airport is 45 minutes away by car and is served by Ryanair and Flybe. During high season British Airways operate flights to Bergerac from London City Airport. If travelling by car the nearest motorway is the A89 and once coming off the motorway it is a 40 minute drive to the house.
Les Eyzies and its famous prehistoric museum is just a 20 minute drive and beyond that are the wonderful caves at Lascaux, a World Heritage site. The towns of Sarlat and Domme are less than 20 minutes drive from the house and the chateaux of Beynac, Milandes and many others are also very close. The river Dordogne runs through the village and has a small plage which in high season has a small pop-up food outlet selling drinks, sandwiches and some hot food. Canoes can be picked up at various locations along the river including the pretty villages of Limeuil, St Cyprien, Beynac and Roque Gageac.
There are many superb restaurants in the surrounding villages and towns and in high season (July-August) the villages hold night markets, selling food and drinks. Long tables are laid out, all you need to do is take your own cutlery, set yourself up and wander around and choose from the vast choice available. If you wish, you could go to one every evening without travelling too far. The roads around the market are closed to traffic which make them all very family friendly.
The house is managed on our behalf by a local agency who will send out a formal contract and collect the deposit and the final payment. The keys to the house will be be collected from their office which is very nearby. They are also on hand throughout the stay to deal with any problems which may arise. We have found that this works extremely well as this gives guests peace of mind that help is not too far away if required. Please note that the price per week is shown in EUROS not STERLING.
