At the heart of the sympathetic restoration of Le Pressoir was the desire to create a stylish, comfortable gite, offering roomy holiday accommodation for up to 3 people.
The kitchen is well equipped with gas cooker/hob, fridge with freezer section, dishwasher, microwave, slow cooker, coffee machine, kettle and toaster, plus plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery and cooking utensils. We also provide a range of consumables included in the rental rate, and a generous welcome tray awaits you on arrival, with our compliments.
The modern shower room situated on the ground floor, includes a spacious luxury shower, large built-in storage cupboard, and of course w.c. + washbasin. All towels are provided.
English Freesat TV and French terrestrial TV, DVD player and WiFi is provided at no extra charge.
An elegant spiral staircase in the living area is always a favourite with our guests.
Upstairs, you will find a traditional French bed in the master bedroom, which boasts views of the garden at the back, and the country lane at the front. All bed linens are included. There is also a mezzanine with sofa bed, and w.c. with washbasin on this floor.
Adjoining the owners property, and completely self-contained with its own entrance, ample private parking for two cars, a bicycle rack for 4 bikes, patio and small garden, barbecue, table and chairs, and a parasol.
Guests can have access to the owners washing machine in the utility room (not in the gite itself). We will be happy provide a full inventory list on request, of everything you can expect to find in the gite on your arrival.
When booking for October to April, you will have the opportunity to include the luxury of underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, as an optional extra at £8 per night. Otherwise, the wood burner is available for you to use all year round, and the wood is included in the rental rate.
The property is nestled in a small rural hamlet of half a dozen houses, including two working farms, between Ger and historic Mortain. Within 20 minutes drive of the gîte we have; the Véloscenic (resurfaced former railway line) for walking and cycling, La Fosse Arthour (lake, rock climbing, walks), Mortain with it's twin waterfalls, walks, Hill 314 and La Petite Chappelle with viewing point across the Normandy countryside to Le Mont St Michel, Lonlay with it's Abbey and famous biscuit factory, and the medieval town of Domfront. The pretty spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne is around half an hour away. Weekly markets at St Hilaire du Harcouët, Vire, Villedieu les Poêles, Condé-sur-Noireau, Flers and Sourdeval. The stunning Mont St Michel is within an hour's drive. Bayeux and the D Day Landing Beaches are an hour and half away. We are only 30 minutes from the northern border of Brittany, with St Malo, Dinan, Dinard and Fougères all within an hour and a half. Nearest golf courses at Bagnoles and Vire are within 40 minutes drive.
We have flexible changeover days, subject to availability.
Please see our website to find out how you can benefit from a 20% Brittany Ferries discount code for your stay at Le Pressoir.
Owners Karen & Andy will be delighted to greet you on arrival, and are available to help during your stay if required, without being intrusive.

The roadsides are blue with bluebells, a Donkey 'Hee Haws' in a nearby field and the Cuckoo can be heard in the distance. It is April and we are back for our 4th visit to Le Pressoir. This beautiful Gite, a converted barn, is the work and inspiration of Karen and Andy Williams who live next door. No expense has been spared to make this a unique getaway for two people. Travel about sightseeing in Basse-Normandy or just chill out in the beautiful surroundings. With underfloor heating and a wood-burner, everything has been thought of to make your stay not only comfortable but memorable as well. Karen and Andy keep the Gite spotlessly clean and fully equipped. A very welcome 'Pack' of goodies is there to greet you on arrival. Wine, bread, butter, milk, chocolates and eggs from their own chickens. This Gite scores 10 on all criteria and is highly recommended. 'Thank you' Karen and Andy for being the perfect hosts. See you in 2019.

Xmas wonderland

By Keith Ashley on 21-Dec-2017

First of all let me say a big thank you to Karen and Andrew (the owners) for making our stay so special. So my wife and I wanted a quiet Xmas away from it all, and having been to this gite previously we both decided that a Xmas there would be fantastic and just what we were looking for. So we booked, turned up, and had one of the best xmas’s we had ever had. This place is just simply stunning, it’s superbly kept, warm, cosy, clean, bright, cheerful, and yet has still kept its original old feel about it. I personally have stayed in many hotels, motels, cabins, apartments, cottages, etc but I have never had the attention to detail, the kind, welcoming and helpful people that are there for you whenever you need them. This place never cease to amaze me, it is just excellent all round. I never do reviews, but when you find a gem like this place it’s only natural that you want to tell people about it. So if it’s a nice quiet place you are looking for in France, I can assure you all, you won’t find a better place to stay than this. Thank you again Karen and Andrew, you will definitely be seeing us again soon.

Excellent Comfortable Rural Retreat

By Jan D on 14-Nov-2016

This was our second visit to ‘Le Pressoir and we found it as enchanting on the second visit, as we did on the first. We had a warm welcome from Karen and Andy who are excellent hosts who have put a lot of thought into equipping their Gite, everything you need for a comfortable stay a real home from home. We had a lovely break and recharged our batteries in this rural and tranquil setting. which is ideally situated to explore the beautiful Normandy countryside. There are a lot of interesting places to visit without having to go too far. If you enjoy walking we would recommend the ‘Goblin’ trail around Mortain a visit to La Fosse Arthour and the Andaine Forest. There is plenty of local information in the Gite and Andy and Karen are on hand if you need any further information, they have a lot of local knowledge. Having more than 20 years’ experience of renting properties across Europe this is definitely one of the best and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in this area. I We will certainly be returning at some time in the future.

Stunning 5 star Gite, thoroughly recommended!

By Anonymous on 25-Oct-2016

We arrived and came across this stunning immaculate gite after a beautiful journey through France to be greeted by our wonderful hosts Karen & Andy with a lovely welcoming cup of tea. Karen & Andy showed us round their their amazing ornate yet spacious gite, we have travelled through Europe and UK for nearly forty years now and can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the best accommodation we have ever experienced. The attention to detail that Karen & Andy have given in creating their Gite is simply stunning. Coupled with Karen & Andy's warm caring hospitality, we felt very lucky & spoilt. A beautifully appointed kitchen, diner, lounge and luxury shower & bathroom with a lovely ornate spiral staircase leading to the mezzanine floor upstairs with cozy bedroom, sitting area with comfy sofa bed settee and lovely views of the surrounding rural buildings and landscape. What with numerous beautiful medieval towns, wonderful cafes, restaurants, WW2 landing beaches nearby, Wi FI , British TV, underfloor heating, well what more could we have wanted! We had a great time and have already rebooked with Karen & Andy for next year, and look forward to returning and enjoying the odd glass of wine or two with our new found friends & hosts Karen & Andy. We are recommending this Gite to all of our friends & family needless to say!

It has everything you could possible want for a comfortable stay. Karen and Andy are so friendly and always on hand to help or recommend where to visit. The gite is set in beautiful Normandie countryside where you can hear the birds, listen to the owls and even heard a woodpecker. We are hoping to go back very soon. Well equipped gite

By Leslie H on 14-Jul-2016

This gite is perfectly placed for the coast, Normandy beaches, bayeux, and beautiful inland towns and historical buildings, within 1 hours drive. There are two supermarkets in Mortain, just up the road and itself has a lovely waterfall and walks. The gite itself is absolutely great it wants for nothing and if it does you only have to ask. Our hosts Andy and Karen are very knowledgeable about the area , we had a great time for the second year. Thanks Paul and Leslie.

A Little Gem

A fantastic cottage, well-appointed and spotlessly clean with great attention to detail on the conversion. The lovely French countryside setting is centrally located for visiting all the surrounding towns and golf at Bagnoles de Orne. Karen and Andy are super hosts, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We would definitely recommend the property for a relaxing get-away holiday and with the under-floor heating is suitable for visiting all the year round. A thoughtful 'Welcome pack' awaits you on arrival. We have already booked for next year. Thank you Karen and Andy for making us so welcome.

Home from home but without the hassle

By Ann H on 11-Apr-2016

This was our second stay and we're booked for next year. So need I say more!! The place is idyllic and the Git is warm airy and comfortable. It's situated well for exploring Normandy's beaches and buildings. Karen and Andy are a lovely couple friendly and helpful but also respect your need for privacy if required, The only thing they can't guarantee is the weather but with such a fabulous job of renovating the barn who cares if it rains, just relax

Fantastic Gite.

By Mike And Liz F on 03-Dec-2015

We have been travelling to France several times a year for over 30 years and have stayed in more Gites than we care to remember. We would simply day that this is one of the very best. The Barn has been beautifully renovated and is amazingly well and thoughtfully equipped. It is difficult to think what else they could provide! The Gite is warm and comfortable and set in a really beautiful rural area of Normandy. Andy and Karen achieve the remarkable balancing act of being the most welcoming, helpful and friendly owners and neighbours whilst being unobtrusive and sensitive while you are there. We stayed eight nights and loved it. They have created a fantastic gite and couple it with thoughtful and appropriate hospitality. Thoroughly recommended.

Excellent Find!

By Jan D on 06-Nov-2015

My daughter and I found this beautiful Gite very easily with the directions given by the owners. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Karen and Andy with a coffee and shown around the property which had clearly been renovated with a lot of thought and passion. The welcome pack provided was very much appreciated and included milk, bread and fresh eggs from their own hens. The Gite itself is well equipped with good quality items and comfortably furnished. It was also nice to find instructions for the appliances and some information about the local area. Set in a rural and tranquil setting it is an ideal base to explore the beautiful Basse-Normandy countryside. Having the added bonus of blue skies just enhanced the beautiful autumnal colours. After 20 years of renting properties throughout France and Europe this by far is one of the best, so much so we booked a return visit for the following year before handing the keys back!!

Absolute dream of a gite

By Linda & Alan F on 02-Nov-2015

This is our second stay at this gite and as before it is immaculate with everything you need. The owners, Karen and Andy, are the most welcoming people. The welcome pack of essentials is much appreciated after a long drive. We love the area so much that we decided to buy a holiday property of our own. You will not be disappointed with the house or the area.

A real gem in a very rural setting

By Mark R on 27-Sep-2015

Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Karen and Andy, the owners of the gite, who kindly offered us a cup of tea. They then showed us around the gite including the generous welcome pack. Although they live next door, they were unobtrusive and respected our privacy during our stay, but were conveniently accessable if we needed anything. The gite itself is probably one of the best available, having been finished to an extremely high standard, a real gem. The attention to detail in the conversion from the original barn is very commendable, even down to having a winch to hoist your luggage up to the first floor mezzanine, to avoid trying to get cases up the spiral staircase. Thoughtfully, every window and door have mesh fly screens. The whole gite exudes quality, including all of the fixtures and fittings, and your every need is catered for. It is well placed for visiting the local attractions, including Le Mont St. Michel (just over 1 hour’s drive), the coast, and the Normandy beaches and St. Malo are not too far away (around 1½ hour’s drive). Karen and Andy are to be congratulated for what they have achieved, and we will certainly look forward to returning.

This gite is in a beautiful location in the Normandy countryside and is within easy reach of popular destinations in the region. The gite is decorated to a very high standard and very well equipped with all the appliances that you may need. Both Karen and Andy were on hand if you needed them and nothing was too much trouble for them. I would highly recommend this property and we will certainly be staying here again.

A perfect gem of a gite in Normandy

By Linda F on 04-Aug-2015

This is an amazing little gite in the French countryside near the village of Ger in the La Manche region of Normandy. The gite has everything you need for your holiday including all bed linens, towels and tea towels. Karen and Andy provide a welcome pack of tea, coffee, bread, milk, etc to get you started along with fresh eggs from their hens. It is immaculate and extremely comfortable and will sleep 4 people easily. Karen and Andy have worked hard to provide a small luxury gite and this is reflected in the interior decor. If you are looking for peace and quiet but within easy access of larger towns and the coast then this is definitely the spot. Karen and Andy are the perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble.

A week of bliss and relaxation

By Anonymous on 19-Jul-2015

My wife and I stayed at this property for a week in July and it felt like a month! Everything about the property is first class; the facilities, finishing, location and of course the owners Karen and Andy who are available when you need them for advice about the area or anything practical such as forgetting a continental adapter! The location is ideal for what we wanted, peace and quiet. The local village Ger is a couple of minutes by car, a little further afield in Mortain with plenty of options for shopping and eating out. We enjoyed the cottage as a base to explore Normandy but also to relax, go for walks, running and sitting outside sampling the excellent French wines you can buy. We sailed into Caen (Ouistreham) and it's a fairly easy 1.5 hour drive from here, we managed it without a sat nav thanks to the directions provided by our hosts. With so many places available to rent in Normandy I'd say give this a place a go if you want a brand new amazing property, ideally located with friendly and helpful owners.

excellent break

By Stephen P on 11-Jul-2015

A very good location in a perfectly restored property. Nothing was forgotten by our hosts, and this is a perfect location for a relaxing, unpressured holiday, where you are never far from anything to do, anywhere to go, or just stay and soak up the sunshine. We loved it and would recommend this property.

Beautiful, light airy equipped gite.

By Leslie H on 10-Jul-2015

We had a wonderful stay at this property, everything was just perfect, Karen and Andy were second to none host's and nothing was to much trouble. Mortain is about 12 kilometers away with two good supermarkets and fuel, make sure you visit the waterfall. The gite is ideally placed for touring, everywhere is easy to get to. Highly recommended. (Penny the dog likes a good long walk!) Our thanks to you both for a great holiday.

For an absolutely perfect location for either a relaxed away from it all break or a touring holiday of historic Normandy, you will find non better that this amazing spacious Gite. Set in a very pleasant rural location but only 10 minutes from the nearest town and only 30-40 very charming minutes drive from a host of attractions. Maintained to the highest of standards, spotlessly clean, the rustic charm of this converted barn combines well with every mod con you could wish for. Karen and Andy as host's have a wealth of local information should you need it, providing customer service that will leave you coming back for more. We have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone and are already looking forward to our return visit.

Wow, what a find! We enjoyed a wonderful peaceful break in this magnificently restored barn in a get away from it all location. The owners Karen and Andy have worked wonders and the barn, it is truly stunning, full of original features a beautiful woodburner, and gracefully placed spiral staircase. The barn had everything we needed to make us feel at home and exceptionally comfortable. The owners are wonderful, very friendly and full of knowledge of the area and places to visit. We cannot recommend this barn, location and hosts enough!! We have rebooked for later in the year and look forward to our wind down break!

What a place to stay

By Anonymous on 26-May-2015

What an amazing place to stay. We arrived on a Sunday for 5 days and was greeted by the owners Karen and Andy. Karen had kept in touch by email on the build up to our stay and even emailed directions to us prior to departure. The property looked in excellent condition from the outside, once inside we were just blown away with the high standard of workmanship and the thought and planning that had been put into the conversion. It is truly a credit to both Karen and Andy, the before and after photos it really brings home the amount of hard work they have both put in. The Welcome pack containing fresh local produce of milk, bread, cheese, eggs etc and of course the wine was greatly welcome and appreciated. The property has underfloor heating and a wood burner too, ideal I would think for those planning to stay in the colder part of the year. The bathroom is of a very good size with a excellent power shower. Karen has also produced a very informative manual with all the local information including local markets, restaurants, local doctor and nearest hospital as well as the nearest towns. The Gite is situated in a lovely and peaceful part of Lower Normandy, it is surrounded by plenty of sleepy French villages with the bigger towns and their bustling markets less than 30mins drive away. We certainly left Karen and Andy on the Friday “Well Chilled Out”

Heaven on Earth

By Ann H on 24-May-2015

better than can ever expected, the Photos do not do it justice and they were good!!! arrival was fantastic with Karen and Andy happy to guide us in. the Gite was better than we ever expected with the building having been renovated to a high Spec but retaining what the building was. Andy & Karen were most helpful and knowledgeable about the area and in close proximity if required but never seen if not. this was their labour of love and it shows. If you want a, get away from it all secluded holiday this is it. An hour and a bir from the Normandy beaches, 45 mins from Avramanche and lots of quaint local villages to mooch around. The Gite itself is first class with all mod cons. A car is a must for this location but it is well worth while. we were so impressed we are going back again next year. Well worth a visit you wont be disappointed.

Stunning Gite in beautiful rural location

By Tracy H on 21-May-2015

Can't rate this Gite highly enough. It is absolutely beautiful. We had a wonderful holiday, total rest and relaxation. Andy and Karen are a lovely couple who made our holiday extra special. We spent a couple of evenings in the company of Andy and Karen, one being my 50th birthday. (The spiral staircase was very interesting after a few glasses of cider made from the apples in Andy's orchard!!!) Perfect hosts without being intrusive, you wouldn't even know that they lived next door, unless like us you invited them in with their yummy cider! The Gite was absolutely spotless, beautifully furnished with lots of homely features. A true home from home. We had lots of busy days exploring the beautiful Normandy countryside. The Gite is set in a very rural setting, waking every morning to bird song and animals was a welcome change from the hum of a busy city. Karen had kindly left a pack of goodies which included freshly laid eggs, bread, cheese, tea, coffee, very welcomed as the shops in France appear to always be closed (Sunday & Monday). We didn't eat out locally as we enjoy cooking and taking advantage of local specialities and ingredients, the kitchen was very well equipped to enable us to do this without any hassle. We highly recommend this Gite to couples who like to get away from the pace of city life. We wish Andy and Karen lots of luck for the future and hope that future guests appreciate this special little place. Rest assured that we will be back!!

The gite was a wonderful place to stay for a stress free and relaxing holiday, we were there for our honeymoon so it was extra special. Karen & Andy were the perfect hosts and gave us a very warm welcome on our arrival. The gite was spotless and there was everything we needed including towels and bed linen as well as a welcome pack, a very nice touch. The area surrounding the gite was very rural and picturesque to say the least, they have a wonderful setting. Not too far from the village and lovely, friendly places to eat. Some very historical towns to visit with lots of history. We would highly recommend this as a fantastic place to stay for anybody wanting to visit the Normandy area, whether it be there first time or if they have been many times. It is truly unique and we hope to have the opportunity to visit Karen & Andy again in the not too distant future.

Home from Home

By Ella S on 23-Feb-2015

We had the pleasure to be the first guests to stay in this beautifully appointed barn conversion.

We have been very much impressed by the craftsmanship and care with which Karen and Andy have turned an old dilapidated barn into a very comfortable and welcoming gite. It is very light and airy and has been finished to a very high standard. Every inch of the building has been used to make it feel like home.

We could see and feel that all has been done with the intention to provide guests with everything they would need. The wood burner was not operational at the time of our stay but we did not need it, as under-floor heating was very efficient and the building was very warm despite cold February weather.

The location of the gite is perfect for peaceful walks and there are many tourist attractions within easy reach by car.

Karen and Andy have been very good hosts, not at all intrusive but very available should you need them.

We would recommend this gite for people who are looking for quality time in a peaceful location.
