Enjoy the peace and quiet of this wonderfully luxurious barn conversion with a contemporary twist. Relax in front of the wood burning stove after a tramp across the North York Moors. Or take a heatwave sauna to unwind both mind and body.
Chat in the relaxed snug area of the kitchen or perch on a stool at the breakfast bar, gin and tonic in hand. Eat lunch outside in the south facing courtyard garden which acts as a real suntrap. Plenty of room for the kids and dog to kick a ball around the dog-proof garden, or work off their energies on the hard tennis court.
We have 18 acres of paddocks and woodland, with paths cut to lead you through the trees to the pond where Gavin, the goose, his mate and a Toulouse Goose called Muriel make their home. Watch the duckling dive for cover and the moor hen's appear to walk on water. Feed the carp in the summer, and if you are very lucky, you might spot a deer or two. Ewes and lambs wonder from paddock to paddock - though most of the time the lambs seem to think the grass is greener in the garden and verges, so take care as you come up the drive.
We have tried to think of everything, but always happy to be reminded what we might have missed. The bedrooms are all feather duvet and pillows with percale cotton sheets. Soak tired muscles in a bath, or invigorate with a bodyjet shower in the 3rd bathroom.

With regards to the history, Cheese Vat Farm was in days gone by a dairy farm, owned at one point by the Rowntree family. Built in the mid 19th Century on the site of what some old maps call “Cheese Fat Hall”. We think the farm in the last 150 years produced cheese for the Cornborough Estates, as well as being the Estate School House. The nearest village is Sheriff Hutton with its wonderful old church (buriel site of Richard III son) and the old ruined castle.

As well as the main house, The Farm consists of The Granary and The Annex - The Granary is a two bedroom self catering cottage sleeping 4 people. The Annex is a cosy one bedroom "one up/ one down" totally separate, but which can be booked on its own or alongside The Granary for a larger party. Please contact the owner to ask about availability for larger parties.

We use a state of the art ground heat source pump system to provide comfort whilst reducing the environmental impact.
Our self catering accommodation is set in the heart of North Yorkshire, surrounded by stunning views, located about 1 mile from the village of Sheriff Hutton, and only 5 miles from Castle Howard.

We have stayed here before and many other cottages and other facilities. There are many geographical and accommodation alternatives available so a place has to be pretty exceptional to get us to return. This property, location, estate and owners are exactly that, exceptional. Therefore, we did return and will do so again. The Combination of luxury accommodation that is also very comfortable and relaxing is quite rare. The grounds of the estate and the owners and their animals, particularly the Labradors, add to this. There is plenty to do, Castle Howard, York, a day at the races, a days walking etc etc. You probably would not be looking at this place if you did not know what Yorkshire has to offer.

Does what it says

The description on the website was absolutely spot on and the pictures don't lie, the barn is wonderful and we felt we were living in luxury for a week.
It had everything we needed with plenty of room and suited all ages in our party 6 - 80!
Its also a great base to get to many of the Yorkshire sights. We did Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, York and Castle Howard which is virtually on the doorstep. We also went to Lightwater Valley funpark which everyone enjoyed.
The surrounding countryside is gorgeous and with lambs to the front of the property and geese at the back, you're not far from nature.
I would thoroughly recommend the Barn.

What a beautiful venue for our holiday – The Granary is absolutely delightful. Thank you so much for all your welcoming gifts – very much appreciated.
