We stayed 18th November for 4 nights. Around 10 minutes gentle stroll into town. Plenty of good places to eat on the doorstep, or surrounding areas. Quirky cottage and nice and private. Everything you need within the property. Owner very friendly and check in straightforward. Would definitely stay again.
Forge Cottage is a charming property ideally located on the outskirts of Helmsley, only a few minutes walk from the Market Place with its numerous boutiques and eating places, yet just far enough away from the bustle to offer peace and tranquility. It's a lovely stroll into town, and not too far to carry the shopping back. There's a pleasant garden in which to bask in the summer sunshine, and a small conservatory for those early spring or autumn days when it's not quite warm enough to sit outside. The cottage sleeps six people comfortably (two double rooms and one twin). A family bathroom serves the twin bedroom and one of the doubles. A downstairs shower room with WC serves the second double bedroom which is reached by a separate staircase. The star feature of the kitchen is the Rayburn range cooker which glows almost visibly with warmth in the cooler months, becoming the welcoming heart of the house. Being only a few minutes drive from the North York Moors and also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, Forge Cottage is a great base for walks in these magnificent national parks, and a home from home in which to relax in comfort at the end of the day.
Loved cottage and garden. Good atmosphere in Helmsley due to cycle race and marvellous weather. River walk beautiful and Vineyard Cafe outside lovely walled garden offered delicious snacks. Plenty of good walks. Our second visit to this interesting cottage and hope to visit again next year.

Very cosy and comfortable cottage in the lovely Helmsley.
It had everything we needed.
could not imagine a more perfect holiday cottage, perfect location and the owners had thought of everything
A beautiful chocolate box cottage with lots of character. Well appointed inside with everything you could possibly need. Great location just a 5 minute walk from the centre of Helmsley. Highly recommended !
Forge cottage has a warm and welcoming feel, there is everything you need and plenty of room to relax. The cottage is well maintained and very clean and the beds were so comfortable. The garden is very private and was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the sunshine. The village of Helmsley was a delight with lots of little shops to browse around and coffee shops to visit. We enjoyed some lovely long and short walks around the area that were suitable for both novice and experienced walkers. We loved the choice of different places to eat but most of all we loved the Micro pub on the edge of the village. We will certainly return when we next visit Yorkshire
Forge Cottage is set up to a high standard. We stayed as a party of 5. The conservatory and useable sized garden make it all the more pleasant in the summer. It's only a few minutes walk into town and you do have direct access to country walks and cycle rides from the door. A great choice if you are looking for a plush let for the week.
Forge Cottage was super and very pretty. A home away from home. It felt as if a friend had lent us his cottage for a week. We loved the books and all the guides and maps. And the Rayburn, although it was a bit hot in the kitchen due to the beautiful weather. I even succeeded in making complete meals on the Rayburn. The garden and sunbeds were also much appreciated. Helmsley is a lovely village with great food, in shops and restaurants. We had a great holiday!
This was one of the best self-catering cottages our family has stayed in. Extremely comfortable and clean, with plenty of room for everyone to spread out in for the week. Children loved their bedroom with its arched entrance and sloping ceiling. Kitchen was very well stocked indeed and the rayburn made cooking an interesting adventure rather than a holiday chore! Thoughtful little extras like a couple of tablets for the dishwasher and the washing machine make a huge difference - those are the things that you often forget to pack.
Overall, felt much more like a home than a holiday rental and we definitely hope to be back.
Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and well equipped.
great cottage and very cosy, Good communication with the owner, and kept very clean. It is in a good position not far from the market square.Lots of places selling good food in the town everywhere within walking distance.
Can't fault anything about the cottage, everything we needed was there and in a great location in the charming town of Helmsley. We stayed in mid Feb and the weather was cold but the cottage was warm and cosy - especially with the open fire during the evenings. There were books and games etc to keep us entertained if needed but with so much to do and see locally there was little need. That one bedroom is located at the far end of the cottage up a separate set of stairs might be an issue for some - luckily our 6-year-old was delighted to have her own little corner of the house with it's own dedicated shower room.
What a lovely cottage. This is the third time we have stayed in Helmsley and this was by far the best accommodation we have had. It was wonderful to walk into the kitchen after a long drive and find it snug and warm from the Aga. A tea tray was ready for us and Christmas Carols were playing on the radio. On going through to the lounge the Christmas Tree and decorations were an extra bonus The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well equipped and furnished. The beds and bedding were of the highest quality and soooo comfortable! I didn't attempt to get to grips with the Aga ( I had no intention of cooking anyway !!) as you are spoilt for choice eating out in and around Helmsley. For the second year on Christmas Day we went to the Blacksmith's at Hartofft and as before we had a wonderful meal. The weather wasn't great but we still got out and about and it was lovely to come back later and light the coal fire. - we payed a second visit to Castle Howard and it was truly magical with all the Christmas decorations in place. We would definatly recommend this cottage and hope to return ourselves this year. A big thank you to David Heath for keeping us informed on the day we left on road closures due to flooding in the area. This saved us a lot of time 'driving around in circles' trying to find the best way out!!! Jenny and Richard Taylor and family
