The Fisherman’s Cottage (Le Chaumiere des Pecheurs) Sleeps 6.
The Fisherman’s Cottage, largest of our three cottages, has a beautiful ancient vine decorating the stone frontage and three bedrooms; two doubles and one twin plus a fully equipped bathroom, kitchen and living/dining area.
Ground Floor: With double doors out onto the pretty main courtyard, the living/dining room has a table, chairs and comfortable seating area with 2 sofas, plus a flat screen TV for watching dvd’s, a USB music tower system and free WIFI. The adjoining open plan kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine plus all the cups, glasses, pans, cutlery etc needed for a group of six people. The ground floor is completed by a double bedroom with its own private double doors also leading onto the courtyard.
First Floor: The main bedroom with oak beams and a countryside view from the window has a comfortable double-bed while the twin bedroom also with traditional oak beams, has a view across the millpond and orchard at the rear. The fitted bathroom has a bath/shower, toilet and washbasin.
Large Heated Pool & Spa:
Our sparkling heated swimming pool is simply fabulous. Measuring a huge 12 x 6 metres it is usually open from late-April to early-October for the complete enjoyment of everyone - you and your partner, your friends or family.
The Moulin pool is securely alarmed and has three wide non-slip Roman steps – perfect for any younger children or for just sitting with a book when it’s hot - plus a terraced surround with plenty of sun-loungers, deck-chairs, and parasols.
If it’s a bit too cool for the pool, or you just enjoy star-gazing into the amazingly clear night skies, we also have a six-person hot-tub/spa in a terraced corner of the main courtyard. At 38 degrees, the hot-jets and bubbles provide wonderful relaxation at any time of year. Children are welcome but must be supervised.
Please click the link to our comprehensive website for lots more information, details and photos of the other facilities and services we can offer here such as Jude's restaurant quality home-cooked evening meals. There are also details of the many other famous Loire Valley chateau attractions in the area plus the amazing zoo and its pandas, as well as the nearby medieval town of Loches and it's wonderful fresh market produce.
Carp Fishing in France at the Moulin Lake:
Our glorious private 2.5 acres Moulin Lake contains some 60 immaculate carp (mirror & common 15-45lbs) – all offering a great challenge.
Only 35 metres from the courtyard cottages, there’s flat, easy-access all around the lake. With 5 decked swims, as well as other good spots and an accessible island, there’s a range of different open water areas to fish into.
Carp fishing in France on your doorstep has rarely been so appealing!
There are now 18 weeks when the Moulin Lake CAN be booked exclusively for 2-4 fishermen inclusive for 1,160 euros during April/May and September/October ONLY by renting the Fisherman’s Cottage.
Set in 15 acres of lush meadows and woodland, the Moulin Lake is stream-fed with fresh water, while an overflow ensures good circulation and oxygenation all year. It is also fed by a natural spring beneath the waters, so it never dries out, even during hot summers.
The lake is lined by a wide variety of mature trees and wild flowers, while abundant wildlife, including kingfishers, woodpeckers and red squirrels, simply add to the delightful carp fishing environment.
There are three decked swims on the nearest bank. Two overlook the deeper area of the lake – around 5 feet – and the third is between some large willows, near the feature island in the centre – another popular fishing spot.
The two remaining swims are on the opposite side of the lake which tapers to around three feet deep at the shallower silty-bottomed top end where the stream water constantly enters the lake.
Carp fishing for four anglers is comfortable if everyone is respectful – we’ve had some cracking competition and banter, but no arguments yet! There are no outside ‘day tickets’. Only those booked into a cottage can fish..
The lake is carefully supplemented most years by adding a selection of quality mirrors and commons from arguably France’s top carp supplier.
A really memorable trip!

Julian and Jude thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality and looking after us during our stay in the Fisherman’s Cottage. You turned what was threatening to be a big carping disappointment elsewhere in France into a memorable trip. We had a great time with some top class carp fishing on the Moulin Lake. My regular carp fishing partner Mike is a bit “individual” but he works for me and clearly did for you too! See you again in May!
Can't wait to come back!

Our first visit here, but what a fantastic venue, hosts and surroundings and a great place for families too. We caught over 900lbs of beautiful, pristine carp in five terrific days of fishing on the Moulin lake. Can’t wait to come back and we will!
Just a great spot for a top holiday!
By Ross & Karen Moughton on 28-May-2016
There really is just nowhere better for a carp fishing holiday in our opinion. We’ve now visited the Moulin for five years in a row, both as a couple and with family, and my husband Ross is still itching to go back again…hopefully next year. The cottages are simply gorgeous – we’ve now stayed in all three! Jude’s cooking is the best and well worth treating yourselves. It’s an English family running a perfect carp fishing holiday retreat in France…but it’s not only for families in school hols time…it’s for anglers and their friends at other times too. Just a great spot for enjoying a top holiday and top carp fishing too. We Love, Love, Love this place!
Fantastic property, fantastic lake and superb location!
By Paul Porter on 12-Sep-2015
Fantastic property, fantastic lake, plus a superb location in the beautiful Loire Valley region of France. The weather was beautiful too, the carp fishing was great and the hosts, Julian and Jude, made our week-long stay in the Fisherman’s cottage unforgettable. The homemade food served up by Jude was of a quality restaurant standard and nothing was too much effort to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. The fishing produced a number of 30lbs plus carp from a mature lake with great features. Julian supplies bait and tackle if needed which is very handy. The local town of Loches is a 20 minute walk (or 5 mins drive) away and has all you require plus more. Restaurants, bars, supermarkets and shopping. Cannot fault this as a carp fishing holiday; would definitely recommend.
What a perfect holiday! Definitely recommend!
By David & Shiela Astley on 20-Jun-2015
Visited in 2012 for a short carp fishing holiday and loved it so much we returned this year in the Fisherman’s cottage with the family, and what a perfect holiday we had! Carp fishing by the Moulin Lake was great and David landing his PB carp during the week made it all particularly special, as was relaxing by the pool or strolling to nearby Loches, to buy wonderful food and wine for BBQ's in a lovely historical market town. Jude also provided us with a delicious evening meal sitting outside in the evening warmth. A beautiful part of France with very considerate, pleasant, friendly hosts...would definitely recommend.
Simply one of the best fortnight's we've ever had!
By Jason & Kate Aldred on 23-Aug-2014
Quite simply, one of the best holidays we have ever had. Julian and Jude are great hosts and looked after us brilliantly. The carp fishing on the Moulin Lake was great and not only did I catch regularly, with a purple run of three upper 30’s, but during the same sequence I also set a new Lake Record with a 43.8lbs mirror. With the mix of the lake and the superb pool there's something here to suit everyone. The Fisherman’s Cottage was perfect for the 5 of us, clean and well equipped. We had a few of Jude's fabulous meals during the 2 weeks as well, and would thoroughly recommend them. All in all we had a fantastic time and will definitely return.
Brilliant holiday! Everything here is simply wonderful!
By Ivan Peacock on 31-Aug-2013
Thank you so much Julian and Jude for another fantastic week carp fishing at Moulin de Boutineau. This was our second visit. The first time we stayed in the wonderful Gardener’s Cottage, but this time opted for the larger Fisherman's Cottage due to our bigger group. The lake, the cottage, the pool, the location - all them are simply wonderful. Jude's cooking is simply to die for. Anything she cooks is sprinkled with magic and tastes superb. Julian also has an eye for excellent local wines, so make sure you sample a bottle or two whilst you are there. In summary – great lake & carp fishing, fantastic location, wonderful hosts, brilliant holiday.
