Carp Fishing in France at the Moulin Lake
Moulin de Boutineau is home to the beautiful Moulin Lake. Spend idyllic days carp fishing in France while others with you have a proper holiday too.
Our glorious private 2.5 acres Moulin Lake contains some 60 immaculate carp (mirror & common 15-45lbs), plus a pair of sizeable grass carp – all offering a great challenge.
Only 35 metres from the courtyard cottages, there’s flat, easy-access all around the lake. With 5 decked swims, as well as other good spots and an accessible island, there’s a range of different open water areas to fish into.
Carp fishing in France on your doorstep has rarely been so appealing!
There are now 18 weeks when the Moulin Lake CAN be booked exclusively for 2-4 fishermen during April/May and September/October for 1,160 euros, but only by renting the Fisherman’s cottage.
Set in 15 acres of lush meadows and woodland, the Moulin Lake is stream-fed with fresh water, while an overflow ensures good circulation and oxygenation all year. It is also fed by a natural spring beneath the waters, so it never dries out, even during hot summers.
There are three decked swims on the nearest bank. Two overlook the deeper area of the lake – around 5 feet – and the third is between some large willows, near the feature island in the centre – another popular fishing spot.
The two remaining swims are on the opposite side of the lake which tapers to around three feet deep at the shallower silty-bottomed top end where the stream water constantly enters the lake.
Carp fishing for four anglers is comfortable if everyone is respectful – we’ve had some cracking competition and banter. There are no outside ‘day tickets’. Only those booked into a cottage can fish.
Exactly the fortnight we'd hoped for!
By Susan Ward & Family on 26-Aug-2017
The Gardener’s Cottage was just right for the four of us....clean, and with a brilliant shower! Our 17 year old carp fishing son Tom was extremely happy - 606lbs of fish caught and a Personal Best Carp of 34lbs. All fish were in excellent condition & the wildlife around the lake & grounds gave us all great enjoyment, especially the red squirrels! The Moulin gardens and courtyard were a picture filled with beautiful flowers and plants. We sat on our terrace under the apple tree, reading, or cycled in to the lovely town of Loches. Each evening we barbecued or sampled Jude's delicious cooking, and Julian's superb wine. We loved the well-kept pool which was ten steps from our cottage, and very welcome in temperatures up to 34C. Julian & Jude warmly welcomed us, and gave us helpful information whenever we asked. We came away completely relaxed, and feeling we'd all had exactly the fortnight’s holiday we'd hoped for. Thank you!
Perfect and fantastic location
By Eddie French on 08-Oct-2016
This is a fantastic location. The Gardener’s Cottage was perfect for just the two of us. Cottage was clean and well equipped and ideal for anybody looking for a relaxing carp fishing holiday in France. We had a fantastic meal cooked by Jude on the evening of our arrival with a lovely wine recommended by Julian. Was delighted to have the lake all to ourselves and, using the Moulin bait recommended and supplied, we had a very productive week. Market town Loches is only a 5 minute drive for local produce, particularly from the many patisseries....went home quite a few pounds heavier. Jude and Julian are very nice hosts, leaving you to your own agenda but always available if needed. We really enjoyed it and definitely hope to return.
Somewhere we will definitely return to!

This was our first time in the Loire at Moulin de Boutineau; Jude and Julian were great hosts and we felt very much at home during our stay in the relaxed Gardner’s Cottage set in lovely grounds. The Moulin Lake and surrounds were fantastic, well looked after and large enough to go exploring. The carp fishing was the highlight of our trip with 22 carp caught between the two fishermen in the family up to 34lbs. Overall we had a great time; great area and local towns, lots to sight-see and the local zoo is well worth a visit. Overall we had a great holiday and this will be somewhere we will definitely return to.
Blown away by the beauty of the place!
By Wayne Penfold on 28-Jun-2014
I don't really know what to say about this place to do it the justice it deserves, but here goes. We booked all three cottages for a week. From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the beauty of the place - we all just looked at each other and agreed we had made the right decision; the flowers were in full bloom, sun was shining… absolutely perfect! We were then greeted by the owners Julian & Jude who we all liked, really nice, helpful people and by the end of the trip we had enjoyed a glass (or 6!) of wine with them. We were then shown around each of the three cottages which have all been renovated to a high standard, very clean and comfy. Once we had sorted out who was staying where, for me it was straight to the Moulin Lake - only about 35 yards - where again, I was blown away by the beauty of the place. The lake is perfect, so peaceful , with some cracking carp. I enjoyed a really good week catching fish of 30lbs plus, as well as a special grass carp nobody had caught in ages. However, the fish won't just jump on the hook so a certain amount of thought is needed, making it all the more rewarding! After sitting around the lake, we then chilled out around the amazing big pool and met up in the courtyard to share lunch in the sun. To round off the already fantastic week, we had a meal cooked for us all by Jude on the last night followed by 5 or 6 bottles of wine! What a place and what lovely people! We are going to go back for sure!
