Croftside is one of the two holiday cottages at Croft House just 1 mile from Keswick. It is a Visit England 4 star/Gold Award self catering holiday cottage for up to 4 people. There are panoramic views on all sides. (The other cottage is Croft Corner - for 2 people - which has ground floor accommodation.)
Croftside has a peaceful setting near Applethwaite village. There are fell walks on hand with a pub, restaurants and health spa facilities that you can walk to.
There are amazing views from the enclosed, front garden which has garden furniture and a BBQ. Croftside has its own independent heating system - the adjacent boiler room has a washer/dryer. There is on-site parking for 2 cars.

Fantastic cottage
We have just returned from long overdue visit to Croftside. This property has the most wonderful views from all aspects. Jan and David are excellent hosts and the property itself is cosy and welcoming and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. Roll on the next holiday at Croftside, it can't come soon enough! Highly recommend Croft Side at Croft House for a relaxing holiday. Jan and David are wonderful hosts who provide very welcoming and thoughtful touches. We really appreciated the wine, lovely biscuits, laid out tea set and flowers on arrival. The home is located in a beautifully area of the Lakes District and an easy walk to the nearby village of Keswick - the Pheasant Inn was lovely for dinner. The house offers magnificent views over the Cumbrian Mountains with Skiddaw being the closest for hiking. Well appointed throughout, the bed was comfortable, the two bathrooms were modern as was the kitchen which had all the requirements needed for creating meals. The lounge room provided comfortable seating and fabulous views can be seen from every room of the home. It is a quiet location with sheep and cattle in nearby pastures but still so close to Keswick and access to the major tourist sights the Lakes District has to offer. The house is very well presented and the gardens offer a relaxing place to enjoy the outdoors.
Croftside is the perfect cottage to stay at in The Lake District. My friend and I wanted to stay somewhere that felt remote, but also close to the shops/pubs etc if needed. Literally a few minutes drive or a pleasant walk into Keswick, yet when sat out in the garden we felt in the middle of nowhere. There are beautiful views and many walks nearby where a car is not needed.
The cottage itself is clean and spacious and anything we needed it had. After booking, communication with Jan was good via email, if needed. During our stay everything ran smoothly and it felt like home pretty quickly! The website for this property is accurate so we were not disappointed! There was plenty of drawer and wardrobe space and a variety of blankets and duvets if needed. The kitchen had everything we needed which was good as we ended up eating in every night due to the pull of the private garden and views! The barbecue came in handy twice too. The detailed folder helped us decide what to do during the days and the boiler room was handy for our wet boots and coats on the day we got caught in the rain! There is also a play area for the children at the other side of the cottage.
I would highly recommend Croftside and will definitely look to book again at some point, a week was certainly not long enough! A perfect cottage for The Lake District.
Croftside’s location just outside Keswick is handy for northern Lakes and is in a lovely and quiet setting close up under Skiddaw and the little village of Applethwaite (an easy walk from the house). There are lovely views North and South from the upper floors, and of the beautiful garden from the ground floor bedroom.
We were two couples but we think that Croftside would be equally good for a family of four. The bedrooms are well appointed with ample drawers and hanging space, bedside lighting and space to spread out. We ate dinner in all week and used the well-equipped kitchen constantly, enjoying the sociable eat-in layout. The private (gated) garden also has table and chairs for outside dining. May can be cold and we appreciated the excellent heating and the supply of different weight blankets and duvets to customize to individual needs.
The touches of a thoughtful host were everywhere, starting with the welcome tea tray complete with biscuits. Having the manuals for all the appliances and a detailed binder with everything you might want to know about house was really helpful. Tablets for the dishwasher and for the washing machine, a basket of sewing notions, extra toiletries you might have forgotten, ample toilet paper may sound mundane but make a big difference when you come from afar and need things! We noticed the good supply of puzzles and board games (useful for kids/bad weather), as well as a complete set of the Wainwright guides to the Lake District Fells in the sitting room.
