Description

This pretty detached stone cottage is a short walk from stunning Lake Vyrnwy with its impressive stone-built Victorian dam and surrounding RSPB nature reserve.

Lovingly restored and furnished by the owners, the cottage still retains lots of traditional character and charm including beams, wooden floor boards and a large inglenook, complimented by a wood burning stove, a well equipped kitchen and modern conveniences. Nestling amongst private terraced gardens which include plenty of space to relax together with a summerhouse, the cottage sits on the edge of woodland and affords fantastic views over the Vyrnwy Valley.

An ideal place for those seeking relaxation, the surrounding Welsh countryside offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities with something for the most energetic outdoor enthusiast including mountain biking, sailing, kayaking and river-rafting, along with more sedate pursuits such as fishing and bird watching. Bike hire is available locally at the nearby craft and visitors centre and sailing dinghies and canoes can also be rented from the boathouse on the lake. This area is superb for bird watchers being an RSPB reserve where numerous resident and migratory birds can be spotted including rare peregrine falcons. There are several bird-hides positioned around the lake which also offers good opportunities for salmon and trout fishing (permits available locally), along with boating.

Nant Llachar Cottage is only half a mile from the nearest pub at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel, serving real ales and bar meals in The Tavern, along with fine dining in the hotel restaurant. The village shop is just a short walk for stocking up on provisions and for larger shops, supermarkets are located in the nearby market towns of Oswestry, Llanfyllin and Welshpool. An ideal base for enjoying all that the local area has to offer, Nant Llachar Cottage is also an ideal retreat for exploring the wider area. Snowdonia National Park, Bala Lake, the Roman city of Chester, Shrewsbury, the Berwyn Mountains in Mid-Wales and the beautiful Welsh coastline are all within an hour's drive. Other great family days out within easy reach include Aberdovey with its sandy beaches, Harlech Castle, King Arthur’s Labyrinth for underground mine tours, the Centre For Alternative Technology and the National Trust properties of Powis Castle, Erddig and Chirk Castle to name just a few.

Nant Llachar Cottage sleeps has three bedrooms.

Beautiful gem of a cottage!

By Kate Francis on 27-Dec-2017

We had a thoroughly nice time in this pretty welsh cottage. It has a wonderful classy feel yet it is homely and very comfortable. It is equipped to a very high standard and has everything necessary for a great self-catering holiday, we were here at Christmas so we did lots of cooking. The log burner and the Rayburn are wonderful and the beds are very comfortable. Our children loved the gardens, the summerhouse and the piano! We all enjoyed the local walks - the sculpture park and the dam wall as well as a walk to the local pub, shop and cafe. Thank you so much Alison for sharing your beautiful home and for making it so special for us at Christmas, we do hope to return.

Fantastic Cottage in a stunning location

By Carla Hall on 20-Sep-2017

What a find! A beautiful well equipped cottage which feels home from home. Comfortable beds and a large bathroom. Stunning gardens to sit in with a lovely summerhouse. The scenery around Lake Vyrnwy is perfect for walking and cycling. We were out every day exploring the area and still had lots left to see. Loved sitting by the log burner in the evening with a glass of wine and a good book. Will be returning hopefully next year.

This cottage is absolutely charming

By Kathleen Billie on 21-Jul-2017

This was our first trip to the UK and we had a lot of obstacles from the moment we landed, and Andrew and Alison Dawson were so helpful to us. They went above and beyond the call to aid us in everything from directions to groceries. We went somewhere different every day, but our favorite times were in the local pubs, talking to the locals. Everyone was so friendly and interesting, and so passionate about the history about Wales. Hopefully we will be able to visit again.
