This pretty detached stone cottage is a short walk from stunning Lake Vyrnwy with its impressive stone-built Victorian dam and surrounding RSPB nature reserve.
Lovingly restored and furnished by the owners, the cottage still retains lots of traditional character and charm including beams, wooden floor boards and a large inglenook, complimented by a wood burning stove, a well equipped kitchen and modern conveniences. Beautiful gem of a cottage!

We had a thoroughly nice time in this pretty welsh cottage. It has a wonderful classy feel yet it is homely and very comfortable. It is equipped to a very high standard and has everything necessary for a great self-catering holiday, we were here at Christmas so we did lots of cooking. The log burner and the Rayburn are wonderful and the beds are very comfortable. Our children loved the gardens, the summerhouse and the piano! We all enjoyed the local walks - the sculpture park and the dam wall as well as a walk to the local pub, shop and cafe. Thank you so much Alison for sharing your beautiful home and for making it so special for us at Christmas, we do hope to return.
Fantastic Cottage in a stunning location

What a find! A beautiful well equipped cottage which feels home from home. Comfortable beds and a large bathroom. Stunning gardens to sit in with a lovely summerhouse. The scenery around Lake Vyrnwy is perfect for walking and cycling. We were out every day exploring the area and still had lots left to see. Loved sitting by the log burner in the evening with a glass of wine and a good book. Will be returning hopefully next year.
This cottage is absolutely charming

This was our first trip to the UK and we had a lot of obstacles from the moment we landed, and Andrew and Alison Dawson were so helpful to us. They went above and beyond the call to aid us in everything from directions to groceries. We went somewhere different every day, but our favorite times were in the local pubs, talking to the locals. Everyone was so friendly and interesting, and so passionate about the history about Wales. Hopefully we will be able to visit again.
A quality home from home.

We all had a wonderful relaxing time in the cottage, Alison and Andrew have clearly put a lot of hard work, thought and care into their cottage. When we arrived the cottage was ready for us to take over for a great week. The place was spotlessly clean and there was everything we needed. Peaceful surroundings, lovely garden to sit in and we all made use of the summerhouse, an ideal getaway from parents for the younger ones. The surrounding areas are beautiful to visit, the waterfalls, the lake, the walks for our dog, were great. overall a very tranquil place to stay and relax. We hope to return next year. Thank you.
This cottage really is five star, Di Di met us on arrival and showed us around and explained every thing we needed to know, which is so much nicer than just picking up a key. The cottage is stunning, very comfortable, very clean and very up together, it has lovely oak doors and we really enjoyed cooking on the rayburn.
We had the most fantastic weather, and we were able to use the garden which is a delight, having breakfast on the patio looking down the valley. The summer house is a great place to relax, and again very comfortable, although the steps to it are a little steep. There is a gate by the summer house leads directly onto the forest track which is just ideal for walking the dogs, although there are many great walks all around and you are only a short walk from the dam and the lake.
We had a great holiday with our two dogs Molly and Charlie and found the location ideal for walking and exploring further afield by car.
The Lake Vyrnwy hotel is very close and we had a lovely lunch there, but is also very nice for a drink overlooking the lake.
We found the whole holiday, Wales, and the cottage, to be a awful lot more than we expected. Alison has been so helpful with great communication and thoughtfulness making the whole experience a joy!

From start to finish Llanwddyn was a delight and the cottage is definitely the way to go! Ideally located for the pub, hotel, shop and the visitors centre at Lake Vrynwy the cottage provides cosy, complete comfortable accommodation. We were just a couple and felt at home immediately but the cottage can accommodate 6 easily. All mod cons in a traditional cottage setting. Checking in and out by the indomitable Didi was just an added delight.
A little piece of heaven on earth

This is a beautifully appointed stone cottage that more than met the needs of our family of five and one small, scruffy dog. The owners have such lovely taste and have obviously lavished this property with much love. It's ideally situated within an easy walk to Lake Vyrnwy and even though we were there in the winter (Feb half term) we found lots of fun things to do in the vicinity - that was when we could tear ourselves away from the cosy log burner. We all feel like we have found a gem and will definitely be back for another visit.
Home from Home, beautiful place
By Emster R. on 11-Nov-2016
Quite apart from the location, which is in my view, right next to the most beautiful lake in the UK, the cottage itself is everything you could wish for. We arrived and the whole place is so clean, and then you have the cosiness of the log burner to look forward to in a traditional inglenook and lovely bedrooms, all of a good size; the cottage is so much bigger on the inside compared to looks on the outside. I particularly liked the fact that the TV is tucked out the way on a pivot hinge so you can properly ignore it during your stay and instead play games that are provided and cook up nice food after a walk. Truly wonderful and we will be returning ! Thank you Emma and Darren Ryder

It's impossible to know where to start after our stay here. Everything about the cottage was superb. It was quaint, well equipped, squeaky clean, spacious, but cosy with high-end soft furnishings, comfortable beds, beautifully maintained gardens & the summerhouse....well, don't even get me started on that. All I know is I want one at home!
Our days started with a Full English breakfast (cooked on the very easy to use Rayburn), beautiful walks around the lake. The kind of walks where you see mountains, rolling countryside & waterfalls. We only live a few hours from the area, but felt like we were a million miles away. Late lunches in the pub (with a few classes of wine) then snoozing with a film in front of the vast logburner. OK, the snoozing was me while my partner went fishing for trout on the river.
We posted some photos on Facebook of our stay. Friends commented "that it looked like something from a film location", ...well it was better than that!!
All in all, the cottage & the location are seriously hard to beat. By far the most beautiful we have had the pleasure of staying in.
Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful cottage....WE WILL BE BACK
Just what we needed!
By Miranda M. on 22-Sep-2016
Jill and I had waited nearly 9 months for this break at Alison's cottage and we weren't disappointed.
It was an area we had not been to before and the weather for Wales behaved very well!
It is a lovely cosy cottage with everything you could want. We ate our breakfast outside every morning facing the sun and the Welsh Hills.
It is peaceful and relatively unpopulated, a hidden gem. We walked, cycled and enjoy several evening drinks on the terrace overlooking the lake at the Tavern Bistro at the local hotel.
We cycled to Lake Bala on one of the hottest days of the year, a challenging but rewarding cycle, beautiful scenery all the way.
DiDi who welcomed us to the cottage was a delight, we got on like a house on fire and she was full of great information about the area, backed up the ample folder in the house, along with copious maps, if you happened to forget any of them. The bottle of red wine and Barra Brith as a welcome pack proved to be great muscle repair following long walks and cycles. A perfect location to kick back and relax, however you choose to relax. Not forgetting the lovely summerhouse at the top of the garden...all we needed was clear nights and moonlit skies and it would have topped off a brilliant holiday. We highly recommend the location, property, owner and housekeeper. We would love to come back and spend more time in a great location. Thanks Alison and DiDi for your wonderful hospitality...I've already told my brother about it...so watch out..it might become a family retreat!
Many thanks and see you again soon we hope!

A real hidden gem

A beautiful cottage with a stunning summer house. Just to relax in your beautiful summer house gazing at the night sky, a dram of malt whisky and La Traviata playing in the background - my idea of heaven.
I can't wait to return. Thank you so much.
Perfect cottage, in perfect location. a real gem
By Ai D on 15-Aug-2016
It was a real pleasure to stay at this cottage, we felt relaxed from the moment we arrived. The location was spot on for the dog, with so many walks from the door, water to play in and pheasants... We enjoyed exploring the area, drinking local beer in front of the wood burner or in the sunny garden, a couple of visits to the pub, and a trip to Llangollen which we last visted by canal boat 20 years ago. Thank you for making your cottage and its well kept garden available, and for the hard working DiDi who was there to welcome us on arrival and to wave us goodbye.
I would not hesitate to recommend booking this cottage, however if you don't do heights then its best not to take the roads to Bala at the top of the lake. Beautiful, but terrifying.
Perfect base for our stay at Lake Vrynwy!
By Derrick H on 31-Jul-2016
Lovely cottage, perfect for our family of 5. Location is superb, a short walk to the lake and to the Lake Vrynwy Hotel.
It's just over an hours drive to the beach at Aberdovey or to the lovely town of Shrewsbury.
Accommodation was immaculate and comfortable. The gardens are beautiful with the added bonus of summerhouse offering fantastic views over the area - we wish we'd found the time to use it more.
We would recommend Nant Llachar Cottage to anyone looking to stay in the area and we would definitely stay here again.

Although we had awful weather for our one weeks holiday in Nant Llacher cottage it welcomed us back after a days trip in the car. Once we were inside it was snug, warm and delightfully comfortable, with everything you could want or wish for to make you holiday easy and restful..
The countryside in which it is situated is breath taking and so beautiful and tucked away from the crowds but near enough to visit the beautiful lake on foot and the local pub situated in the Vyrnwy Hotel just a steep climb through the woods and past the church ...
Unfortunately we didn't do as much outside as we had hoped due to the rain , however, I would definitely recommend Nant Llacher as the place to stay should you be looking at this area to spend your holiday ....it's a 5 star stay, beautifully furnished and most welcoming and totally as the description , if not better !

Amazing cottage in a stunning part of Wales

What a beautiful cottage. Absolutely immaculate with high-quality furnishings. Loved the attention to detail and the well kept garden.
Weather was great too, so managed to fit in lots of walks in the area and cycle rides around the lake and in the forestry tracks.
Will definitely be returning. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay.

Hi Alison and Andrew,
I just want to thank you for letting us share the beauty and tranquility of Nant Llachar Cottage a hidden gem, it was above and beyond all our expectations, I've truly fallen in love with it.
We were initially apprehensive about the location having a six and eight year old who are used to children's entertainment type holiday's but this by far has been the best quality family holiday we have shared. Also it was our 10 month old rescue Labradors first holiday and we wanted it to be extra special for him I don't think he stopped wagging his tail the whole time!
The cottage itself was a home from home it had everything and more we could have wished for and the attention to detail was exquisite, the views are truly amazing, the garden were beautiful and well maintained and we all loved the secret summerhouse at the top of the garden...it was great sitting in there looking at the views on a sunny day with a glass of wine trying to imagine it was ours! Lol
Even on the odd rainy day we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of everyday.
The Lake Vyrnwy is breathtaking, and there are so many hidden surprises within the surrounding areas.
This holiday has left a big imprint on my heart and I have memories I will treasure forever as a family we all can't wait to get the opportunity to revisit this stunning idyllic cottage. Thankyou again for letting us share such an amazing experience.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely spot.
By Nick M on 08-Jun-2016
We had an absolutly wonderful time at Nant Llachar. The cottage was one of the nicest we have stayed in (we are planning to go back for a short break next year)! My daughter and I hired Bikes and cycled the 11 miles around the lake which was well worth it just for the scenery. I would recommend this cottage to all. The short walk up to Lake Vrynwy Hotel is rewarded with spectacular views and delicious food. The family run Lake View Tearooms is a old farmhouse the does and lovely Welsh Cream Tea with yet more wonderful views!.
Lovely cottage at Lake Vywnry, Wales

We enjoyed a lovely stay at this cottage in Wales. The attention to detail was brilliant with everything meticulously clean, great quality bedding, a folder with tips of where to go .....
We also had some great weather so enjoyed some long walks in the hills around the lake which is truly beautiful. Then back to the cottage to sit by the wood burning stove enjoying a well earned glass of wine.
Would love to have been able to stay for longer - we will be coming back.

Our stay in this beautifully tasteful cottage was well above our expectations, the owners have thought of everything to make your stay so memorable, it is so well maintained, absolutely faultless. I would recommend this property to my family and friends. We hope to visit this cottage again soon
