Traditional Welsh Cottage in countryside near Martletwy, Narberth, Pembrokeshire
Ideally situated at a crossroads in beautiful South Pembrokeshire, Cross Cottage is half an hour's drive from several Blue Flag beaches including Freshwater East, Tenby, Manorbier, Barafundle, Saundersfoot, most dog friendly. It is close to the small towns of Narberth, Tenby and Pembroke and to visitor attractions such as Oakwood, Blue Lagoon and Folly Farm. Carew and Pembroke castles are nearby and a wide range of wildlife can be seen when walking or cycling locally in the ancient woodland of Minwear and Canaston, and the hamlets of Lawrenny, Cresswell Quay and Landshipping, on the Eastern Cleddau estuary - the 'Secret Waterway'. The local pub, the Cresselly Arms at Cresswell Quay, is about 2 miles away and serves beer out of a jug; the restaurant at the Cwm Deri vineyard is 15 minutes walk away on the outskirts of Martletwy village.

Cross Cottage provides 4 star accommodation as graded by 'Visit Wales'. It sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms; 1 double downstairs and 2 twin, curtained, galleried, 'crogloft' bedrooms. These are accessed by ladder type stairs. Thick lime-washed stone walls, beamed ceilings and flagged floors give immense character and charm to this 300 year old cottage. This was originally featured by Country Living magazine in 1996 for its sensitive reconstruction: 'Cross Cottage, deserted for 90 years, is now a home of such plain beauty and authenticity....'. The open plan living/dining/kitchen has oil central heating and also a Piazetta wood-burning stove, easy chairs, sofa and dining table and chairs to seat 6. The bathroom is downstairs. There is a recently contructed shower room also on the ground floor. The two foot thick walls ensure the house stays cool in the summer but warm and cosy in winter. A special feature is the large, enclosed garden with trees, shrubs, flower borders and pond. The recently relaid paved area provides a very pleasant and private space for eating and drinking al fresco. There is ample, level parking on the enclosed driveway which could accommodate a small boat.

Guests tell us that one of its key advantages is being centrally located in South Pembrokeshire so that lots of beaches, seaside towns and tourist attractions are easily accessible.

Despite dating from the 18th century and housing two families in the 19th century, including shoemakers and blacksmith, Cross Cottage now offers 21st century conveniences and environmentally friendly features.

There is very little light pollution so bring your telescope as well as your camera and your bat detector too!

Short breaks are available out of the main season, minimum 3 nights. Costs are a proportion of the full week's price ie 3 nights - 60%, 4 nights - 70%, 5 nights - 80%. As the cottage is open plan, it is not possible to put dogs in a kitchen/utility room at night time, as some people choose to do. Owners need to bring their own dogs' beds so that dogs do not sleep on furniture. Outside: Large, enclosed garden with space for children to play. Paved area, south facing so enjoys the sun, is ideal for eating out - table and garden chairs are stored in shed, with small portable barbecue. Several benches around the garden ensure being able to sit in sun/shade at different times of the day. Utility Room: Fridge/freezer; washer/drier Cleaning / Towels / Linen Bed linen, towels (1 bath and 1 hand towel per person) and tea towels provided. Cottage is cleaned and linen changed weekly at the changeover day of Saturday.

Beaches Fantastic

By Surtees Family on 09-Sep-2018

A lovely cottage and garden. Would love to come back. Dogs very happy. Beaches fantastic - Narberth village is wonderful and 'TOP JOES' pizza restaurant was delicious. Loved Manorbier beach, Barafundle (park at Stackpole). The green folder under the TV has loads of info in. The owner was very helpful and responsive. Thank you - till next time.

Amazing Time

By Wright Family on 11-Aug-2018

We had an amazing time here in Cross Cottage, it's such a cosy, comfortable place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves ! We really liked the beaches: Freshwater West and Newgale perfect for surfing and we liked the fact that Oakwood was so close we went there twice. The fire made the cottage even cosier on rainy days and Bonnie our dog loved the garden. We love this cottage and hope to come back again. Thank yo so much !

Beautiful Cottage In Fantastic Location !

By Chris P. on 13-Aug-2016

What a stunning cottage with beautiful gardens. We enjoyed a fabulous week, so close to attractions - we particularly loved Tenby, Barafundle Bay, Pembroke Castle and Haverfordwest. Would recommend - only note I would say is that one of the upstairs rooms has very steep narrow steps (more like a ladder) so more suited to older children - mine was 14 so perfect !

Well Equipped And Comfortable.

By Sean C. on 04-Jun-2016

This is a really comfortable cottage with plenty of seating indoors and out. The kitchen is particularly well equipped. The stairs to the two upper bedrooms are quite steep and with only curtains separating them from the main room, it's easy to take tea/coffee orders in the morning ! Lovely quiet location.

A Beautiful, Magical And Relaxing Place To Stay

By Karen L. on 22-Aug-2015

We are a family of four, Mum, Dad, 11 year old son and 8 year old daughter. This is our second stay at Cross Cottage after spending our first week there last summer. It is a truly magical cottage full of character. The children adore the 'crogloft' bedrooms and mum and dad enjoy the pace and quiet. The cottage is equipped with everything you need and more! The garden is beautiful and a lovely spot to have dinner on a lovely evening. In an ideal position for exploring Pembrokeshire coast and countryside and all the usual family days out such as Folly Farm and Oakwood. The children are already asking when we at going back.

Excellent Holiday Cottage

By Guy T. on 01-Aug-2015

The cottage was as described on the web site and was clean and well maintained as you would expect. We would recommend this property to friends and family. Narberth is about a 10 min car ride from the property and you can get almost any day to day items from there. The pasta restaurant was very good value for money and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Further afield Saundersfoot has a clean family orientated beach with lifeguard patrols of the beach so is safe for swimming.

A Beautiful Place

By Dr George W on 11-Jul-2015

The cottage is perfectly located: it is in the countryside but close enough to nice beaches as Marloes Sands and Barafundle Bay. Villages as Narberth and Tenby for light and normal shopping are a 15-20 mins away. The cottage itself has a lot of space and is surrounded by a nice garden and the interior fits very good to the countryside. Because of central heating, refrigerator, washing machine and dishwasher it has everything for a comfortable stay. We only missed a larger TV. So we all enjoyed the stay and can recommend it.
