Description
Hooper’s Hill overlooks the entrance to Mylor Creek, this traditional 3-bedroom wooden house was built in the 1920s, it has all its original features, and was previously owned by the same family for 80 years, the author Howard Spring. It nestles in 1½ acres of the garden leading down to the creek with views out over the wonderful sailing waters of the Carrick Roads. In the house, you’ll find all of Howard Spring’s novels on the shelves here along with many other books in several languages. The snug has French windows leading to a decked balcony for outdoor meals, and there’s another separate sitting room – both have wood burners, interesting artwork, stunning views and plenty of games. Evenings in the garden with the barbecue sizzling will be magical.
Detailed Description
The garden is truly idyllic – lawns, rockeries, a pond and shrubs – with places to sit and views all the way down to the sparkling estuary, bustling with boats. Launch a paddle board here or walk 5 minutes to the pebbly beach in the harbour for a swim. Older children will adore the freedom.
A Rayburn warms the kitchen along with an electric oven and hob, a Cornish cream tea is left for you, and a separate utility room where you will find the dishwasher and washing machine perfect for muddy dogs and boots.
The 3 bedrooms, 2 with king-size beds and the other with a double bed manage to be quirky and old-fashioned at the same time and share a bathroom with a proper roll-top bath, separate shower, the toilet being separate.
At Mylor Harbour, there is Castaways restaurant and Café Mylor, plus a water sports center where you can hire paddle boards, canoes, and other boats. There is a mooring with the property for up to 23 foot, please book in advance. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, you can explore the meandering coastline on foot or discover one of the many cycle trails that are peppered across the peninsula.
Mylor village, a 35-minute walk up the creek, has a butcher, fishmonger, general stores, newsagents, and the Lemon Arms pub. There’s a good farmers’ market on Saturdays just over the hill. Falmouth is a 15-minute drive and full of restaurants and shops, and the cathedral city of Truro is 25 minutes away.
The little church of Mylor nestles on the hillside overlooking the water, an excellent location for exploring the waterways surrounding Fal Estuary plus Helford River and creeks. There are two nearby villages of Mylor Bridge which has The Lemon Arms pub, butcher, fishmonger, general stores, and newsagents, also Flushing with good general store, pub and a restaurant where you can take a foot ferry to Falmouth, with its National Maritime Museum, art galleries and sandy beaches.
Off-road parking for 2 cars. Also, a deep water mooring may be available upon request, please enquire.
