A short walk to Poole Quay and the many fabulous restaurants and bars. Make sure you book the Guildhall Tavern - Michelin Standard French food at reasonable prices. Severine and Frederic (owners) are really friendly and helpful. Take a boat ride from the Quay around the islands or to Brownsea Island and nature watch or to Swanage. Watch the fishermen land or just sit and have a drink and people watch.
Water sports are popular around the harbour. There is also a whole variety of other tourist attractions.
Sit on Tranquility's south-facing balcony, savour the islands, dine al fresco and enjoy the sunset and tranquillity.
Dorset's attractions are the mild climate, golden sandy beaches, beautiful coastline and countryside. It's weather is favourable, Dorset having amongst the most sunshine hours per year in the UK.
There are the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle (National Trust), the Swanage Steam Railway, the long sandy beaches of Studland and the fascinating Sandbanks Chain Ferry (single car crossing approx £3) within a short distance. Treat yourself to tea at The Haven Hotel with its consevatory overlooking the entrance to Poole Harbour and the chain ferry.
Spend some time on the beaches of Sandbanks Peninsula, Poole, famous for having some of the most expensive properties in the world. Drop into Jazzy's Cafe (Shore Road) on a Sunday morning and read the papers and people-watch. See the Fireworks Display Summer Thursdays 10pm at Poole Quay.
For those interested in watersports, there is windsurfing and kitesurfing tuition available at Whitley Bay, Sandbanks; sailing tuition at Rockley Watersports, Hamworthy, Poole; scuba diving off Swanage and sea fishing trips from Poole Harbour.
Water-skiing, wakeboarding and parasurfing also take place in Poole harbour. Mountain biking is a popular activity in the nearby Purbeck Hills.
