Situated between Thuir and Ceret, L'Andalouse is a single storey house in its own private grounds opposite vineyards just two or three minutes' walk from the centre of the village of Fourques and a range of local shops, including a bar/boulangerie, a butcher, a general store, a post office with ATM, several wineries and a chemist. Surrounded by a private, enclosed garden, on the edge of the village yet part of it, the house sits in a quiet cul-de-sac with plenty of privacy. We bought it in 2005, lived there throughout 2006, and have equipped it as a real home from home.

Please read the reviews which we have brought over to Simply Owners from Owners Direct with whom we have let the house since 2009. We joined Simply Owners in February 2017 because we appreciate their straightforward approach to contact between owners and guests which we think is beneficial to both parties. You can contact us by phone, text or email and we will be happy to answer any questions.

Five Star Rating!

By Diane McGregor on 10-Jun-2017

Five star Rating!: An experienced traveller I've never yet given 5 stars, but this well tended property really deserves it. Three generations had everything they could possibly want or need here, and even some surprise things we didn't know we might want too! The attention to detail meant every single one of us from 4 to 73 years of age was amply catered for. The pool and large garden great for fun or personal space. Vineyard walks with fabulous views of snow on mountains. We'd love to live there in this house!

We stayed in this terrific bungalow for 3 weeks, everything was there from spices etc in the cupboard to beach towels & loungers by the pool. The pool was heated to about 29 degrees & was just wonderful to get into & relax. The temperature during the day was an average 26-28 degrees & we only had one day of rain. Simon who looked after the pool twice a week also gave us some very good advice when we asked about having an overnight trip to Spain. He suggested going to Gerona first, we visited the old town as advised & thoroughly enjoyed it. We can certainly recommend this property, the area surrounding it was superb with fantastic views. You do need a car but as we had driven there that was no problem. Castelnou is a definite must for a visit.

What more could you ask for. This charming villa had absolutely everything you could possibly want on holiday. Wonderful pool and outdoor eating with BBQ (always in the shade, which is a godsend when the temp. is high). Easy access to the coast and beautiful villages and towns close by. The villa is well stocked with games, music and books. This is the best villa we've rented and we look forward to coming again.

All facilities were very clean and the layout of the villa was excellent. We were two families of four and had a wing each. Lovely open feel to the main living area with good access to the patio where the main attraction is the superb heated pool with enough room to play water polo with four each side (we took our own net). There is also enough room for a badminton net around the front and a great surface for boules. The long warm evenings were just perfect for sitting outside with a glass or two of local wine, especially with the outdoor lighting and the pool lighting. We frequently used the summer kitchen which was excellent. There is a lovely local walk from the property through the nearby vineyards, but a car is required to reach the coastal beaches and nearby hills with great views of the Pyrenees. Andrew and Celia have been very attentive throughout the booking process and keen to make sure we had everything we needed. Simon who looked after the pool was very friendly and helpful with good local knowledge. We would highly recommend this villa for a great relaxing time. Thanks again Andrew and Celia.

If you're looking for "home from home" then look no further. This property has everything you could possibly wish for in order to make your stay a truly happy and memorable one. It is clean, spacious, very comfortable and so well equipped. There are beach towels that you can borrow, along with toys and inflatables to use in the pool. The summer kitchen is a real bonus having a separate fridge and freezer to store your food for use on the barbecue. The pool is regularly cleaned by Simon who is very friendly and helpful and most knowledgeable of the locality. The villa is in a great location, being near to beaches and places of interest, yet set in a very peaceful, quiet typical French village. You will find the local village shops are just a stroll away and a good selection of supermarkets in nearby towns. The owners, Andrew and Celia are very helpful. If you have any queries at any stage they are quick to respond. We so enjoyed our stay that we we would like to return.

The villa is superb. Great private/quiet location and easy to find. Just a 5 minute walk for croissants in the morning. The grounds offer perfect facilities; a pool surrounded by two outdoor dinning areas including a BBQ and additional fridge/freezer. The interior of the property caters for all your needs - well stocked kitchen and dresser. Very comfortable beds and spacious open plan living area. The owners, Andrew & Ceila clearly care for the property and from booking to departure offered great communication and service. Thank you, the Lyall family.

Once again we have just spent 3 weeks at this villa. The fact that we visited for a second time must tell you how pleased we were with our initial stay. The second stay was everything we expected. As before, the house was well equipped and well laid out, especially if you have two families. Again, the pool was superb and was 32deg for the 3 weeks we were there and we made much use of the pool-side outside 'kitchen/barbeque/dining area'. Andrew and Celia have done a superb job of renovating and improving the property since our last visit, which includes a brand new boundary wall to the south side of the property. Once again we took a trip up Massif des Alberes mountain and stopped at the mountainside restaurant for lunch (still excellent!). We also visited the hillside village Castelnou, well worth a visit. We all enjoyed our stay so much we are hoping to visit again soon.

The Standard To Which Others Should Aspire

I'm sure we all know the feeling...you've booked a holiday based on the excellent reviews, but there's always a nagging doubt that it won't live up to expectations. Well stop worrying because in this case, the superlatives are all justified. We (a couple) stayed for a week in early June and frankly, we've been kicking ourselves since we got home for not staying longer. The villa, the garden and the pool are all beautiful and absolutely immaculately maintained. As others have said, the accommodation's layout would be ideal for two couples or families and, as well as being very private and quiet, the villa is also very secure. The owners have thought of, and provided, everything so that you can enjoy your break. To illustrate this point, the owners ask for a quick text or email when you arrive to confirm that everything is in order. We sent the email as requested and said that having been at the villa for about an hour, we were trying to think of something that hadn't been provided. A week later, we were still trying. The attention to detail is amazing. The only disappointing thing about our stay was having to leave at the end of it! This really is a very beautiful and perfect villa in a very perfect and beautiful corner of France. Gary & Joanna

We had a lovely, relaxed, restful time in this villa. Over the last 10 years that we have holidayed in France we can honestly say that this has been one of the best equipped and maintained properties. The owners, Andrew and Celia have provided a very attractive, spacious, well maintained and well equipped villa. It is on the outskirts of a quiet village and is ideally situated to visit the coast or the mountains. Following Andrew and Celia's advice we were able to use and thoroughly enjoy the heated swimming pool every day of our holiday in late September/October. Thank you to Simon who kept it so well maintained. We would certainly love to return.

This is the loveliest villa that we have had the pleasure to stay in; relaxing, quiet, extremely well equipped and within easy reach of local shops and short drives to nearby towns. The local village has a lovely bakery and there are some good restaurants within a few minutes drive; the best (really lovely) is Can Marty - wonderful food and very friendly. All together a perfect spot!

We have just spent 2 weeks at L’andalouse and cannot praise it enough. This is a lovely villa, very well maintained with everything you could possibly need. The outside space is perfect, with a large terrace and heated pool which was just fabulous and used everyday. The outside kitchen is great we had several barbecues and most of our meals were eaten here. The location is excellent, with beaches and beautiful towns accessible without a long drive. We travelled to Spain twice during our stay, once to La Jonquera for duty free shopping and the second time we drove to Barcelona. It’s a 2 hour drive but with an early start its doable. It was my grandsons birthday treat to visit Camp Nou, so we did the open top bus tour stopping at Camp Nou where we did the tour of the ground. We had lunch did a bit of shopping then headed home. It’s a great day out if you don’t mind the long drive. The village itself has local shops in walking distance and even a winery where you can try before you buy. There’s a walk through the local vineyards which I would recommend it has stunning views. The owners Andrew and Celia seem to have thought of everything to ensure your stay will be perfect. We absolutely loved it here and hope to return in the future. I highly recommend this holiday villa.

We have just spent 3 weeks at this villa. It was everything we expected and more. The house was well equipped and well laid out, especially if you have two families due to each side of the house having independent bedrooms, bathrooms and WC's. The pool was superb and was 32deg for the 3 weeks we were there and we were particularly impressed with the outside 'kitchen/barbeque/dining area', which we used 19 out of our 21 evenings. In this outside kitchen there is a fridge/freezer which was very useful especially our bbq wine!! We had long walks around the vineyards with wonderful views of the countryside. We visited all the local seaside towns and ports, where we often ate out for lunch. We particularly liked Collioure, very picturesque with lots of café/restaurants with an old fortified town. We took a trip up Massif des Alberes and stopped at the mountainside restaurant for lunch (excellent!). Andrew and Celia were most informative and helpful before our visit and made sure our stay was comfortable and trouble free. The pool and garden were maintained to a high standard whilst we were there. We all enjoyed our stay so much we are hoping to visit again soon.

After 6 years of holidaying in this region and staying at a variety of different places this is the only property that we hope to go back to. There were no nasty surprises the property is as described, clean, well maintained and the heated pool was a wonderful treat. Ideally situated for access to a variety of walks it provided comfort and peace. The local cave sells good wine at affordable prices and the meat from the village butcher was some of the best we have ever had. Andrew and Celia are without doubt the best organised and efficient owners we have come across making the whole holiday run like a dream.

L'Andalouse is located in a lovely French village set amidst vineyards and with beautiful views of the mountain scenery. There is a bakery (great for fresh croissants and bread every morning), a grocers, butchers, a chemist and even wine tasting all within a few minutes walk. There is even a pizza van which visits the village two evenings a week! The villa itself is laid out perfectly for either two families or as we were, a family with two teenage boys and the grandparents. Either side of the main living space are two wings containing 2 bedrooms a bathroom and a separate toilet. The living space is light and airy and whilst the kitchen is small, we didn't spend much time in it!! The veranda and outdoor kitchen provide lovely spaces for al fresco dining and the heated pool is the perfect temperature and a welcome break from the heat of the sun. We used it every day and the owners provide a great array of pool toys, floats and balls for a variety of pool activities! The table tennis table in the shade provided many hours of competition too! There are plenty of pretty towns to visit only a short drive from the villa and the coast is only half an hour away. We also enjoyed the local vineyard walk on foot and by bike! We had a wonderful holiday in Fourques and agree with previous reviewers, the best accommodation we have experienced in France. The owners have thought of everything and the space is perfectly laid out. Would love to return in the future.

This is a really fabulous holiday house. It is immaculately kept, with a great (heated) pool and plenty of room for the kids to run around outside and explore. The owners have left lots of their own stuff so it really does feel like a home from home. I loved working my way through their book collection. Everything is thought through and would suit any family or a couple of families. We were three generations, the youngest being 2 and 3. My parents slept in a different area so weren't disturbed by the kids at all. (We weren't either - the shutters close completely so the girls slept incredibly well in their completely dark, quiet room!) The area is great. Locally there are walks through vineyards and the village is lovely, with a bread shop. You do need a car to explore further. The owners recommended a shallow lake quarter of an hour away which has a man-made beach and cafes. This is wonderful for small children. Overall we can't recommend this highly enough!

This is by far the most lovely villa and grounds we have stayed in after many years experience. Everything in the house is geared to the convenience of guests with superb attention to detail. Children and adults are catered for equally. It is highly suitable for 2 parties as there are 2 wings which have their own facilities. The lounge area is very spacious and tastefully furnished as is the rest of the house. All the bedrooms are of good size. We ate outside most of the time on the wide terraced areas around the pool.....blissfully heated. The local area has much to recommend it. You very much have the feeling of living in a rural village but the amenities of a modern town are close by including many supermarkets. Spain is within easy reach. The Pyrenees make a wonderful backdrop. The owners reply immediately to emails and couldn't be more helpful. Impossible to fault this property.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at L'Andalouse with friends >60. This was our 2nd visit. Last year was with extended family (boys 5 & 8). We are returning next year with the family, so you can tell that we really like it there and are looking forward to it already. The house ticks all of the boxes and is very well equipped. It is ideally situated in a peaceful and picturesque area of France, with vinyard walks, local shops and short drives to Mediterranean beaches, hypermarkets and historical towns & villages. The layout is particularly good with 2 bedrooms and facilities at each end of a large sitting and dining area. The outside areas are a good size for swimming, lounging, family meals, playing games and parking cars. The owners provide a great holiday experience and booking is easy. Simon and Liz who professionally maintain the pool are local and extremely helpful.

We wanted a quite French village with just the basic facilities. Bar and Baker in fact. However it also had to be near the coast and mountains and have plenty of sightseeing opportunities. This property fitted the bill to a tee. We went as an extended family, grandparents, children and grandchildren. Everyone just loved the villa. It was simple, clean, and very well equipped. There was plenty of room for the 8 of us both inside and out, and the pool was also perfect and was in constant use. The owner was most helpful throughout the booking process and during our time there. All in all we passed an idyllic 2 weeks in this Catalan area of France.

The house fully lived up to our expectations. It is all on one level with 2 bedrooms and bathroom at each end with the kitchen and lounge in the middle. The kitchen is a trifle small but very well equipped. There is a separate summer kitchen/barbecue the other side of the pool with table and chairs. The pool is excellent and very well maintained by Simon and his wife who were very helpful with local information. The house is on the edge of the village with vineyards across the other side of the entrance drive, but the bakers, grocers and butchers are only five minutes walk away. The bakers in the square is open every day except Monday (when there is another one open) and has a good selection of bread and cakes. On Thursday there is a travelling butcher and a fishmonger. We used them both weeks. The town of Thuir has a supermarket and a market on Saturday. The commercial centre at Porte de Espagne has a large Auchan which sells everything and is good for the initial stock up. We recommend the Yellow Train at Villefranche (get there early). Gerona in Spain is worth visiting (more manageable than Barcelona). The whole area is lovely and there is so much to do. We went to the beach at Argeles north which was not too busy and loads of parking. In summary this is a house and an area we would definitely go back to. It is a long drive but worth it.
