Lovely large self catering holiday accommodation in Cornwall for up to 17 people.

Situated in Churchtown, the centre of St. Agnes village, the Porthvean provides all you would expect for a comfortable and relaxing stay by the sea.
The building itself is old - it was the White Hart over 200 years ago, with parts of the property about twice that age. Behind our small private car park (space for 4 or 5 cars) are buildings which are owned by the National Trust. Also at the rear is a decked barbecue area.

At the front is a small terrace, sunny and sheltered, an ideal vantage point for local events such as the Carnival, Flora Dances and Victorian Street Fayre, or just sit with a drink and watch the world go by. (There are a further 2 private parking spaces here, between the terrace and the street.)

Our 7 bedrooms are nicely appointed, warm, comfortable and arranged thus:
Front: top floor - kingsize double with two single beds, kingsize double
first floor - superking double with a single bed, kingsize double

Back: first floor - superking double, superking double, twin

Some are quite versatile in the bed arrangements with the use of ziplink superking doubles which offer the opportunity to split to two singles. You should specify which arrangement will suit your party. Six rooms have their own en suite shower, washbasin and WC and a couple of them will take a cot without being too cramped. The seventh bedroom (twin bedded) has its own wash basin and is next to the bathroom. They all have flat screen TV's with Freeview, hair dryers and heaters that you control. Off the main landing is the bathroom with a bath for those who prefer it, shower, washbasin and WC.

Should the weather be unkind, the lounge bar has a real log fire to cheer you. With its TV, satellite, DVD and music system, this makes a very comfortable centre of the house. Here, the bar counter lets you play host with its useful servery for liquid refreshment! Chiller and icemaker compliment this area. Adjoining the lounge is another room with a piano and some card tables - ideal for those games of chess, cards, jigsaw puzzles etc. a sing song, or just a quiet sit with a good book. At the other end of the house is a small games room and then relax in the hot tub and sauna.

The dining room provides a large table to seat you all (complete with baby seats if needed), and in the kitchen you will find most of the modern appliances you might need - dishwasher, gas hob, double electric ovens, food processor, freezer, microwaves, fridges, toasters etc. We are told that the kitchen is particularly well-equipped for the needs of a large party. By the downstairs back door are a washing machine, tumble dryer, trouser press, small drying area and another loo.

There is free WiFi internet access throughout the Porthvean.

The Porthvean is our home and we hope that you, too, will feel at home.

Fab place to stay

By Nicola P on 08-Oct-2018

We stayed here for a week as a large family of 16 (9 adults and 7 kids). It was fab. St Agnes is lovely with lots of pub and great beaches there and nearby. The house is really spacious. We could all get round the dining table and the kitchen is set up for mass catering! 3 microwaves and 2 large ovens and two large toasters so you can toast 8 slices of bread at once. There's s playroom with pool table and darts and best of all...a sauna and spa...perfect after the beach or a day walking. There's a bar and big lounge too. Cannot recommend enough

Wonderful location for a family getaway or friend reunion

By Leo on 13-Aug-2018

Very family/group friendly and LARGE home set in the centre of a quintessentially Cornish village, with 14th century church opposite (we saw two weddings), bakery to the left, traditional butcher opposite and fruit and vegetable store and grocers to the right. Also, next door, an awesome and very accommodating pub. And a fantastic, beautiful, and uncrowded beach 10 minutes down the hill and amazing cliff walks which we did almost daily. Geoff was a very friendly and extremely helpful but unobtrusive host. Absolutely no complaints and highly recommended, we'll be back!

Fabulous family house

By Mazza on 04-Jun-2017

I would really recommend Porthvean having recently spent a week with all my family (8 adults and 6 children). The house has everything you need for a family holiday, huge well equipped kitchen, big lounge and dining table big enough for everyone. Bedrooms all ensuite bar one which had a bathroom next door. The family loved the hot tub and games room.
St Agnes is a lovely village with a pub next door, proper village shops and places to eat. We were lucky enough to be there on bank holiday Monday where a Victorian Fayre took place right outside our house! It was great fun to sit on our own terrace and watch, especially the band and an auction of pasties raising an amazing amount of money for charity.
If you are sensitive to noise, maybe choose a rear bedroom as Cornish delivery men seem to arrive extremely early in the morning! All in all a fab week.

Large family holiday fun

By Waggoner1000 on 31-Jul-2016

Great location, great host, all but one room ensuite, full use of all facilities. Total of 16 of us and there was room to get some peace if needed. Kitchen is a commercial one but there are printed instructions for all the more complex appliances. Having a bar meant that there was not the pull from the pub next door, so more time was spent as a family.

Great place for a large group

By Howmanybeansmake5 on 07-Jan-2016

We were 8 adults, 8 kids and 3 dogs and stayed at The Porthvean for a week over New Year. It's perfectly suited to a large group with well spread out rooms and en suite facilities for all bar one room (which had its own bathroom next door). The decor is dated but everywhere is spotlessly clean and well kitted out. The kitchen is brilliant for cooking for lots of people with large pots and pans and plenty of work surface. There were cupboards full of board games and even a dressing up trunk which the kids had fun with. The back deck, though small, has plenty of space for 2 tables and would be a lovely spot to sit in the sunshine. It's a 10/15 min walk to the beach and there are two mini supermarkets within a 2 min walk. The pub/hotel directly next door serves great food all day and we enjoyed the full English breakfasts, as well as their lunches and dinners. The pub down by the beach (can't remember the name) but it's white (!) also serves great food. Overall we had an excellent stay in a great house. If you're looking for sophisticated decor then this isn't your place, but for kids and dogs where you don't want to be too precious, it's perfect. Geoff (the owner) is also very helpful and on hand if you need anything. Would definitely recommend.

Golden wedding celebrations!

By Deidre N on 02-Aug-2015

My husband and I invited our three children with their families (19 altogether) for a weeks holiday. The Porthvean was ideal, plenty of room for everyone and facilities pleased all the grandchildren from 3 year olds to 23 year old! The games room, sauna and hot tub were favourites! The kitchen was so well equipped it made catering for large family a pleasure! The dining room table was large enough for all of us to sit together.
Loved St Agnes and many thanks go to hosts, Ali and Geoff Robinson.

Fantastic venue, fantastic location

By Gedriley on 27-Jul-2015

This is the second time we have spent a week at the Porthvean and it just gets better and better. Geoff is a great host and is there if you need him but not intrusive. The accommodation is lovely with all the amenities you need. The location is perfect, within walking distance to shops, pubs and the beach so we hardly used the car (and the weather was great). We will definitely be returning (after we've recovered !) and can't recommend the Porthvean strongly enough.

Excellent holiday house in great location

By Lyndsey S on 28-Jun-2015

Hired the house out for a week. Very interesting building with great character. Rooms were perfect for our party, and the kitchen facilities were excellent. House was very clean when we arrived. Hot tub was a hit with our party, and the provision of a gas barbecue perfect. The location in the village was ideal with bakery, butcher, veg shop and general grocery shops only a few doors away. St Agnes beach is a 15 minute walk down a steep hill, or a 5 minute drive with parking very close. St Agnes itself is also a beautiful village, and very well located with Truro and Perranporth within 15 minute drive.

Fantastic family weekend

By Southsea Traveller on 30-Jun-2013

We rented the whole place for a family gathering. If anyone is considering a get together with varied ages ( we were 18months to 94) this is great. The teenagers loved the hot tub , sauna and games room which was well away from the lounge area. It was equipped extremely well with enough comfortable seating for everyone, a large kitchen, the bedrooms were good. I would highly recommend it and the owners were so helpful and welcoming. Thank you for a great stay!

Perfect for all the family

By Tessa710 on 23-Jun-2012

My husbands family hired the whole place as self catering accommodation for our June wedding and it was perfect. The place was exceptionally well equipped, with a very large kitchen with 2 cookers 3 microwaves and enough pots and pans for the 20 + people we entertained. Comfortable lounge with ample room to relax and a large dinning table which more that accommodated the whole family.
The kids loved the hot tub and pool table, it really is ideal for large groups and very reasonably priced.
We will defiantly look at hiring this place again when our family from overseas comes to visit.
