Grace Barn is a light and airy barn in contemporary style with far reaching views. Located on a smallholding on the edge of the Quantock Hills and only 3 miles from Taunton & the M5, it's easy to get to but so quiet. It has a kingsize bed, bunkbeds, and open-plan living space with sofa bed. It is accessible to those with difficulty walking and to those who use a wheelchair. Cot and high chair are available on request. It has its own sun terrace and garden. Separate childrens play area. Dogs welcome. There is an additional charge of £20 for the use of the sofa bed or cot but no charge for 1 or 2 dogs.
The property has high ceilings and lovely views from the living space, bedroom and private sun terrace. There is a large woodburner, and wood is supplied for cooler evenings, and also a barbecue on the terrace (you will need your own charcoal). There are plenty of country walks from the Barn and dogs are welcome at no extra cost. Please bring your own dog bed and bowls and ensure they do not leave hairs or mud on the furnishings. Smoking is only permitted outside.
The property has wi-fi, but here in the countryside the speeds are less than 5mb/s. Its enough for social media and email but not really enough for streaming video.
The bathroom has a bath, and also a wheelchair accessible shower. It is located in the middle of the property with two doors - one direct to the main bedroom (like an ensuite), and a second door to the hallway near the front door and bunk bed room.
Several groups have used Grace Barn as a base from which to get married - it works well for this, as it is close to a number of wedding venues. If you feel you may need extra space and another loo on the morning of the wedding (for bridesmaids, photographers, hair dressers etc) please request the use of a second lounge and loo directly adjoining the Barn. There will be an additional charge for this. You are welcome to use the grounds for photos.
A couple of steps lead down from the sun terrace to a small enclosed lawn and a track leading to the smallholding, orchard and meadows. This can also be reached without the use of the steps via a stony farm track. There is a small stream and wildlife pond which are frequented by wild ducks - water voles, newts and pole cats (!) have been spotted here as well as tawny owls, buzzards, dragonflies and numerous other species. We do everything we can to create a habitat for wildlife. *Young children must to be supervised due to the presence of deep water*
Our own chickens and bantams range freely around the smallholding and we often have 'collective' pigs in the summer for fresh pork, and a veg patch.
We also have a separate self-contained one bedroom apartment for let at the same property - please enquire for more information. We are happy to let either property for longer periods, for example, for relocation to the area or short term employment in the area. We prefer minimum stays of 3 nights between May and September if possible, or 2 nights from October to April. Discounts will be given for longer stays.
The lovely Hestercombe Gardens and House are just a mile away by road, or enjoy the walk there on foot through bluebell woods, with the reward of coffee or lunch when you get there.
Other nearby attractions include the West Somerset Steam Railway (20mins), Exmoor (1hr), Dunster and Minehead (1hr), Glastonbury, Wells and Clarkes Village retail outlet at Street (40mins), among others. South coast towns such as Lyme Regis and Sidmouth are less than an hour away, both of which are great for beaches, shopping and eating, and the surfing beaches of North Devon are 1.5 hours by car (Woolacombe, Croyde etc).
Grace Barn is well placed for access by rail or road, 10 minutes from Taunton’s mainline rail station (London Paddington 2 hours), and major road links (3 miles from the M5). Regional airports at Bristol and Exeter are within 1 hour and offer links to main airports across the UK and Europe. English Channel ferry ports are within easy reach.
