Red Syke is a tranquil haven away from the stresses and strains of everyday living, and ideal for anyone looking to spend some time amidst the peace and quiet of wonderful scenery. Enjoy sailing on Ullswater, or take in the magnificent views from a launch trip on the lake - this scenic region offers something for everyone. Shop 2½ miles, pub and restaurant 1mile. Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Travel cot, stairgate and highchair available on request. Use of owner’s washing machine. Ullswater is the Lake District's second largest lake at nine miles long. Located in the eastern side of Cumbria, it bends and twists its way through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodland on the other.
Boating centres and marinas nestle unobtrusively on the lake edge, perfect for the water sports enthusiasts, or visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.
Many of the Lake District's many walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn's summit via Striding Edge. Or for the less energetic there are many low-level walks through beautiful countryside.
Of note is Glenridding which sits on the south western shore and is surrounded by the fells with wonderful scenic views. Pooley Bridge on the northern shore, with its 16th Century Bridge, Lakeland greystone houses and quaint teashops and Patterdale just to the south of Ullswater, cradled by mountains.

What a treat to spend Christmas in such a beautiful spot.
Spent hours watching the fabulous views, enhanced by the local wildlife. Spotted a magnificent woodpecker as well as the usual garden birds and pheasants (and of course the red squirrel).
Thank you for the warm welcome and the little extras which mean so much!!

Back again for our 40th wedding anniversary. As usual a very warm welcome and very clean cosy cottage. we have had a lovely break away with our dogs "Bonnie & Rosie" and a very relaxing time.
Great to see the squirrel and the birds and to see the usual sights and wonderful scenery.
Thanks for the bubbly and the flowers

Red Syke was a little gem

Theresa and Brian were so welcoming, helpful and friendly.
Everything and everywhere was spotlessly clean and we didn't want for anything. We were even given a supply of nuts to feed the adorable little red squirrel which frequented the back garden.
I suppose if we have to give a negative from our point of view, it was the downstairs bathroom. But we knew that when we booked.
But the location was lovely, the gardens were beautifully kept, I cannot praise the place highly enough. I actually left a sweater behind and Theresa was kind enough to post it back to me the next day. A lovely week.

Another relaxing week in your homely cottage with stunning views. Weather not the greatest but still manages some lovely walks at Whinlatter, Bowness, Penrith and Aria Force falls.
Looking forward to coming back in June 2019.
See you soon.
Lovely cosy little cottage.

We wanted for nothing. so well equipped, its unbelievable.
Scones and Jam on arrival, a nice touch and much appreciated.
P enjoyed his time trying to photograph the wildlife, especially the red squirrel and the greater spotted woodpecker. "Sid" very much at home enjoying the strokes from the hosts!
Pity the weather wasn't a little better to sit outside and enjoy the views. Thank you

What a beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean..The owners thought of everything and more as to what people would need. Beds were so comfortable, the garden and views were spectacular.
The owners were friendly.
