We have lovingly restored our 200 year-old farmhouse making sure we keep much of its original character. It’s ideal for groups of 2, 4/5 or 8 people, in one-bed, two-bed or four-bed gîtes, each of which is comfortable & well-equipped with its own private outdoor eating area.
Each gîte also has UK Freesat TV & a DVD player, and the kitchen has a separate oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and coffee maker.
Outside we have a shaded play area dedicated to younger visitors with swings, slide, and a trampoline & lots of toys and games to keep families entertained. We pride ourselves that you’ll find everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as it can be and try to make sure you need to bring as little as possible with you – linen & towels are included, and any extras you might need for little ones are also available free of charge, just ask.
From here, you can easily reach Cognac, Saintes, Angoulême and La Rochelle to the north, go west to the glorious beaches of Royan and the Atlantic coast, or south to Bordeaux and St Emillion.
Excellent Gite & Friendly Hosts
By Kenneth W. on 27-Sep-2016
This was our first visit to Lisa's Gites, the location was rural but not too far away from local amenities, so nice and quite.
The gite was nice and clean and well equipped, during our stay we viewed all of Lisa's gite which were all presented to the same high standard.
As the weather was so good during our stay we spent most of our time relaxing around the pool, which was heated making entry that must easier.
I do not know what more I can say other than we will be returning next year.

One of the nicest gites we have stayed in
By Katherine S on 24-Jul-2016
We had a really lovely 2 week holiday, staying in Le Chai at Chez Augros. We've explored many different areas of France but this is one of the nicest gites we have ever stayed in. Hosts Lisa and Ian have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible and we wanted for nothing. The pool area was fabulous - with sun and shade available, and we also enjoyed sitting outside our Gite in our own private space. We visited the new wine museum at Bordeaux and made trips to Saintes, Cognac, Blaye, Talmont, Royen and into the Perigord district - we would highly recommend staying here.

After such a lovely holiday last year we returned and had a fantastic time, our son especially enjoys the swimming pool and had a lovely time playing with the other children who were staying there. We can't recommend staying here enough it is a lovely place to relax and unwind Ian and Lisa are so helpful and friendly and we are looking forward to returning. Paul, Elaine & Finn x
A relaxing environment to unwind and enjoy
By James H on 23-Aug-2015
Le Chai was the perfect place for us to spend two weeks to unwind and relax.
The property is well maintained, and has all of the creature comforts that you could need including; dishwasher, wi-fi, and English TV.
Lisa and Iain were very knowledgeable of the local area, and provided a plethora of leaflets, and personalised places to visit. We worked our way through quite a few, and hope to finish the rest during another visit.
We would both highly recommend Le Chai, Chez Augros as a whole and the local area if you are after a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of life in the UK! Although, we won't recommend to too many people as we want to secure a booking to come back again!

Fantastic! So relaxing and picturesque
By Ollie S on 07-Aug-2015
We had a fantastic stay at Le Chai. Lisa & Ian were superb in helping arrange our arrival and where to go during our stay. The setup was also beautiful! We stayed in the 1bed gite and we were surprised by just how spacious it was. With there being both My wife and I along with our 16month old son, it is always a worry about space and being able to get time to relax, however the downstairs and grounds out the front allowed for plenty of playing and we never found ourselves feeling like we were on top of each other. With the swimming pool so close by as well, the amount of time spent in our gite was very limited as the pool was a massive draw for all of us. Our 16month old in particular!
With the space, swimming pool and having Lisa & Ian on hand to answer any questions we had and we would absolutely recommend to anyone to stay here if you are in the area.

Sadly we only had time for a short break in Vibrac but it was a good one! The gite was well fitted with a nice outside sitting area and use of the superb heated pool which was a great place to relax after a long day's touring. The owners were on hand but unobtrusive (we hardly saw them!). A great place to stay.....hidden away but with easy access, recommended to all!
Le Chai - Perfect Countryside Retreat for 2
By Alan & Yvonne G on 12-Jul-2015
From the moment we arrived late evening on the Saturday and throughout our stay Lisa, Iain and family made us feel most welcome. Le Chai is the perfect combination of rustic simplicity with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. No review of this property would be complete without special mention of the fantastic pool and surrounding terrace and gardens....just beautiful in the summer sun. The rural location of the accommodation means you do need to drive to the nearest boulangerie and other shops, but it's not far at all. When we could drag ourselves away from the pool, we enjoyed visits to the coastal beach town of Royan and also Cognac, where we enjoyed a tour round the Otard distillery. The surrounding area is nice for walks and for the more energetic great for running and cycling. All in all a lovely relaxing holiday in the beautiful French countryside.
A cyclists delight.

A clean well equipped gite set in a peaceful location surrounded by quiet roads and gently rolling countryside - after a days cycling it was nice to relax by the pool which was spacious, clean and warm. Friendly hosts who provided a lovely welcome pack - we will return in the future.
By Kwaka on 01-Sep-2014
Our stay was so lovely and relazing we are all looking forward to a return trip. The gite was clean and comfortable and Lisa and Ian were so helpful with everthing nothing was to much trouble. Our son especially loved the swimming pool which he spent many hours in, it really is a lovely location to relax and only a short drive to the local town and amenties. Thanks again for a fantastic holiday. Paul, Elaine & Finn.
Our stay in Le Chai
By Brendan & Breege on 24-Jun-2014
We had a lovely relaxing week staying in this Gite. The gite was spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished and very comfortable. It contained everything that you could possibly need for a relaxing break. Lisa and Ian were very welcoming and attentive hosts without being at all intrusive.
The gite is situated in a quiet rural area (perfect for a relaxing break). The nearby town of Jonzac is very pleasant and the general area has lots to offer and places to explore within short car journeys.
Overall, I could not speak highly enough of this gite or indeed Lisa and Ian who will do everything they can to insure that you have a very pleasant stay.
“Well cared for, well appointed rural retreat with unobtrusive hosts on site.”
By Krysia B on 22-Jun-2014
Although I booked the smallest gite on site, we were given the bigger one for 4 people. This had 2 ensuite bedrooms and an open-plan kitchen, living, dining area, all immaculately presented. Although we were not the only guests, we had the swimming pool to ourselves all the time. Lisa and Ian were very helpful and friendly, but unobtrusive. There was also a private garden space for this particular gite - decking, garden table and chairs, grassy area and clothes line. These gites are very rural, so expect to use a car every day. There are loads of villages and attractions within a 35 mile radius. We visited somewhere different every day of the week. A very helpful book (made by Lisa) was available offering suggestions for visits etc. We had a thoroughly enjoyable week here with hardly a cloud in the sky!

Lovely Gite in a Picturesque Setting
By Samantha on 12-Sep-2013
A lovely gite in a very picturesque setting. Lisa and Ian were very welcoming, and happy to help with any questions. A car is a must-have for this accommodation as all of the sights are quite a way beyond walking distance, but well worth the drive! We hadn't made any plans as to what we were going to do when we got there, but Lisa and Ian's helpful guide to the area and local attractions meant that this wasn't a problem at all.
Overall, a cosy and comfortable gite set in beautiful French countryside. Excellent if you want to get away from it all but still want to be within driving distance of things to see and do.
By Bonnie on 18-Aug-2013
Having escaped a long British winter, we arrived to glorious spring sunshine, which stayed with us all our stay in France.
The gite was just what we hoped it would be. Clean, fully equipped and in an idyllic situation, surrounded by vineyards and beautiful views. It was quiet and we were able to relax in the garden. The owners were welcoming and hospitable but not intrusive into our daily activities, something we appreciated very much.
Would recommend a visit!
“Paradise in Countryside”
By High Peak on 03-Oct-2012
We spent an excellent week in September 2012 in Chez Mamie. The lovely modern gite was very clean, fully equipped with kitchen facilities and other essentials, Wifi internet, plus English TV! The location is very rural and tranquil. We did not even hear the owners next door -- just some chickens and piggy squeaks! Highly recommend for those who want to unwind in the relaxed laid-back atmosphere of the countryside. We will definitely visit again for a longer time! Thank you very much Lisa and Ian for the wonderful break.
“Relaxing break - away from it all!”
By on 11-Oct-2011
We stayed here for four nights in late September and could not recommend Chez Mamie and the other gites more highly. Lisa and Ian were extremely welcoming and helpful. Chez Mamie is a pretty gite with all the comforts you could need on holiday. The small garden has a bbq and the pool is lovely. The gites are set in the middle of rolling countryside, which for us was exactly what we needed. If you are looking for nightlife you will have to go further afield but if you are looking for peace and relaxation you've come to the right place!
“Lovely gite in a quiet, rural location”
By Mark & Kathy on 14-Apr-2011
Good base to explore the area with trips to Bordeaux, St Emillion and Talmont our highlights. Cosy cottage, quiet location - internet access was a real bonus and satellite TV to watch the world cup games was great (shame about the results!). Owners were really helpful. If only the weather had been kinder we would have made good use of the lovely pool area. Maybe next time!

We had a wonderful time in the idyllic French countryside & stayed in a smart, comfortable modern (inside) gitte. This is one of 4 gittes sympathetically converted from an old stone-built farmhouse with wonderful views over the unspoilt French countryside. There was lots of outside space for our 2 young boys to run about & the swimming pool is fantastic.
The owners rightly take an obvious pride in the property they have rescued from years of neglect & the pleasant, excellent service they offer is fantastic.
As a property developer, I am not easily impressed but I thoroughly recommend this, or any of the other gittes offered by Mr & Mrs Elsey.
