The Old Forge is a luxury four bedroom Barn Conversion which has been awarded a Four Star Gold Rating from VisitEngland. Converted from what used to be a busy working Forge, our family run holiday cottage is both characterful & modern. With natural stone floors, and underfloor heating, exposed beamed ceilings and high quality furnishings, this is a character property with a spacious modern interior. Accommodation at The Old Forge is all on one level making it ideal for families with young children, or family members with limited mobility. Please be aware that we do not accept pets. Situated in The Great Wold Valley alongside The Gypsey Race and overlooking an area of outstanding natural beauty, the cottage is ideally situated as a base for visiting the Yorkshire Wolds, The Yorkshire Coast, the North Yorkshire Moors and the City of York all of which are within 30 miles. West Lutton is a picturesque village situated between the bustling market towns of Malton and Driffield. The views from The Old Forge of St Mary’s Church are second to none and a cosy village pub The Three Tuns Inn is just 2 minutes walk away. Just a couple of miles away in Weaverthorpe both The Blue Bell and The Star Inn offer excellent dining, as does The Triton Inn at Sledmere. Still Yorkshires best kept secret The Yorkshire Wolds are a range of low rolling hills which rise from the River Humber at Hessle and run in a crescent shape through stunning countryside to the dramatic cliffs at Flamborough Head and Bempton north of Bridlington. The gentle hills make it an ideal area for both walking and cycling. The area is unspoilt and rich in history and there are many historic buildings and churches to visit. The chalk grassland of The Yorkshire Wolds is a rare habitat in Britain and is haven for wildlife. The Yorkshire Coast towns of Bridlington, Filey, & Scarborough are all less than 20 miles away, each offering different experiences for those of you who enjoy a day out at the Seaside. Do not miss a day out in the maritime town of Whitby the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula and now home to the annual Gothic Weekend.
Modern Facilities In An Old Smithy
By Darren on 13-Aug-2017
Everything you could need and set out well. Plenty of space and the games were used on the only wet-weather day we had. (This was a blessing because we visited lots of places each day, coast and moorland , Abbeys and Castles, pubs and restaurants ...a rest day was welcome) The tourist information within the Forge is excellent and helped us plan our days out with lots of options.
Home From Home

A lovely little village with an easy to find building next to a quiet church. We were met on our arrival by Caroline , who escorted us around and explained everything. We especially liked the tourist standard info section for local attractions and places to eat and drink, the comfortable beds and luxury linen, convenient for the local pub.
Stylish And Most Comfortable
By A Donogue on 26-Sep-2016
All were impressed with the cottage, which is fitted out to the highest standard and spacious enough for everyone. Cooking, eating and socialising for seven is never easy, here the layout provided space for all such activities. Access and provision for elderly and disabled was excellent (ramp, all rooms on one floor and walk in shower). Location is a little off the main roads but this was compensated by quiet roads and lovely views as we headed out to other attractions. Local pub was very welcoming though need to check when open.
Excellent For Families
By Audrey C on 06-Aug-2016

What a wonderful place to celebrate an 80th birthday (we didn't even bother with the underwear!!! he he - joke- naked octogenarians - not a good look!). Thank you so much for making The Old Forge such a beautiful & comfortable place to stay. The welcome pack was delicious, it just hasn't been long enough! We will be back
Fantastic Spot In The Yorkshire Wolds
By Simon Meyers on 30-Aug-2015
A fanatastic little base in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds.
The welcome was warm, with a basket including some locallly produced items.
The four bedrooms are spaced around a well equiped central living area giving a compact property that has everything required for a relaxing holiday.
A REALLY ENJOYABLE HOLIDAY
By Michelle Tirrell on 27-Jul-2015
WE HAVE HAD A REALLY ENJOYABLE STAY AT THE OLD FORGE, THE PROPERTY WAS IDEAL FOR MY FAMILY WITH LARGE CLEAN ROOMS AND WELL MAINTAINED FACILITIES. THE LOCATION WAS CONVENIENT TO BOTH YORK AND THE COAST, ALL THE DRIVES THROUGHT THE WOLDS WERE A PLEASURE. THE INFORMATION REGARDING LOCAL ACTIVITIES, ATTRACTIONS WERE WELL INFORMED AND SO VERSATILE THAT IN SOME INSTANCES IT WAS HARD FOR US TO ALL AGREE ON THE SAME ACTIVITY. CAROLINE & NIGEL WERE GREAT LAND LORDS AND IF WE WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE INFORMATION NEEDED IN THEIR GOOD INSTRUCTION BOOK THEY WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO ADVISE US. THE ACCOMODATION WAS SO GOOD WE WERE AS HAPPY TO STAY IN OR TO GO OUT ON PLANNED EXCURSIONS. I WOULD CERTAINLY RECOMMEND IT TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

We spent bank holiday weekend at The Old Forge and it was perfect for us! A lovely welcome from Caroline on the Friday evening and we all felt instantly at home. Lovely bedrooms, v comfy beds, really good showers, and everything you could ever need in the kitchen and open plan dining/lounge area, we had the perfect surroundings for us to relax as a group of friends. Plenty of space for 8 people in a cottage on one floor and the underfloor heating made it nice and cosy.
A 45minute drive on the Saturday and we were in York, a 30minute drive on Sunday and we were in Scarborough, so it was a great location for us for two day trips. We'd booked a private room at The Blue Bell Inn (recommended on The Old Forge website by Caroline) for dinner on the Saturday evening, where we had brilliant food at very reasonable prices.
I can't recommend this place enough and wouldn't hesitate in going back another time.

Review Of The Old Forge
By Grace Glaister on 24-Sep-2014
We have really enjoyed our two weeks holiday in the lovely and well equipped Old Forge. The highlights of our visit were a visit to RSPB Bempton Cliffs, dining in the Pullman on The North York Moors Railway, York (so much to see there!) and the whole unspoilt landscape, plenty of lovely walks. A big 'thank you' to Caroline & Nigel for making us so welcome, the vast array of information provided & the much appreciated welcome pack.
Brilliant Inside Outside Falls Short
By Patsy on 12-Aug-2014
Fantastic property very well equipped with hi-spec furnishings throughout. Very clean and well cared for. Ideal for anyone with mobility issues as it is all on one level and has ramp to the entrance. Unfortunately the outside area is not as good. There is no paving as in the photo,it is all pebbles and the area next to the table is the car park where you park your car. The owner also parks there. This area is also used by visitors to the owner's house for parking, as this is the access drive to the owner's house. There is no gate and the area is open to the street.
Relaxed Stay In Luxury
By The Duncan Family on 24-Jul-2014
We have just returned from a week staying at The Forge in West Lutton. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in the beautiful luxurious forge. Our hosts were very helpful and welcoming and Archie was lovely. The village made us feel welcome too. It is a great base to exploring The Wolds and a joy to return to. The rooms and facilities are 5 stAr. We look forward to a return visit in the future.
Our Stay At The Old Forge
By Margaret Jones on 08-Jul-2014
Our stay at The Old Forge was a very happy and comfortable experience. The property was perfect for our needs, very clean, homely and well maintained. I was celebrating my 70th birthday and received a birthday card together with a bottle bubbly which I found really thoughtful.
I would most certainly recommend the property to anyone I know without hesitation, it was brilliant.
The Star Inn at Weaverthorpe was great value for money, all seven of us enjoyed our meal.
By Tony G on 23-May-2014
Beautiful and very comfortable property. You're smack bang in the middle of the wolds but still within easy reach of York, the coast and so many other attractions.
