Description

The Byre is a two storey holiday self catering barn where the upper floor is a romantic double bedroom in the eaves - accessed by a spiral staircase - with stunning views out over the valley and the hundreds of acres of farm and woodland near Ladock. The second bedroom is a bright and nautically themed 'yacht cabin' with full size bunk beds which our younger guests adore. The Byre is very popular with young families, as it is both safe and secure and we can provide stairgates, a changing station, cot, baby bath and sterilising unit etc. which means that you don't have to stuff everything, plus the kitchen sink into your car for the trip down.

The two traditional and adjacent barns - Skyber & The Byre were re-built around 2007 and then re-furbished in 2012 and are decorated and equipped with virtually everything you would expect in a modern home, including underfloor heating, dishwashers, washer/driers, Flatscreen TVs and WiFi. Skyber is a single storey L shaped self catering barn and The Byre, as already mentioned, is a 2 storey self catering barn with fantastic views from the upstairs bedroom out across the valley. Both have adjacent off road private parking and their own deck area.

The bedrooms are bright and welcoming, with hardwood furniture and sumptuous bedding; each master bedroom is a luxurious place for couples, whilst the second bedroom is cheerful and imaginative space for youngsters. The sitting rooms are contemporary and comfortable, with plenty of seating and soft cushions, along with HiFis for music lovers, which incorporate either bluetooth connectivity or an iphone docking station. The bathrooms have both a full size bath and power showers and the kitchens are modern, spacious and fully equipped. Outside, each property has its own private and gated deck area with a barbecue, plus hardwood table, parasol and seating. The surrounding lawned area, gardens and the fantastic views are for all guests to share, but as there are only two properties this means that often you will have it all to yourselves.

Both barns are ideal for families with young children, offering safe enclosed grounds and a play area with climbing frame, slide and swings within view. Also, to save you loading the car to the gunnels, we have provided a comprehensive range of baby equipment including cot, highchair, stairgate (for The Byre) baby bath and changing station. Whilst both barns can easily accommodate 4 persons in their two bedrooms, there is also the option to make it 5 in each. The second bedroom of Skyber has a small double bed and a full size single (plus cots can be provided). The Byre also has a very comfortable fold out sofa bed, in addition to the second bedroom, with it's full size bunk beds, so if you need to accommodate some extra guests for a few days it won't be a problem.

Having said all of the above, the main attraction of Tregear Barns is their location. In the centre of Cornwall - but away from it all - it is an ideal base for touring and a wonderful retreat at the end of a hard day exploring all that Cornwall has to offer

Lovely Views & Really Secluded

By Alexis on 23-Oct-2017

Just come back from a 3 night visit at The Byre. It's a really secluded location so if you want lovely views and no noise, then this is the place to visit me too. It's a very central location for exploring too, 15 mins to Truro, 30 mins to Newquay or if you're feeling brave an hours drive to Lands End. The Byre has everything you need and a handy binder of information including the nearest pubs and shops. When we come back to Cornwall we know where we will be going!

Der Urlaub In Judiths Und Steves Cottage War Wirklich Wundervoll!

By Julia on 18-Aug-2017

By Xavier on 14-Jul-2017

Thank you for your review of The Byre , Xavier - here's a rough translation for fellow non French speakers.
The cottage is located minutes from Truro, in the middle of the countryside (access by narrow roads but these roads here are common in Cornwall), and is therefore very well placed for all the end of the peninsula (land's end, lizard, st ives, polperro, tintagel... available in 1 hour or less) there is plenty to do for several weeks! home very nice.Cream teas home-made delicious on arrival. very quiet environment. beautiful views of the countryside. note, the upstairs room is accessed by a spiral staircase so no door to the room. we spent a superb week !

Lovely Little Barn - Perfect For Our Needs

By Sally on 28-Apr-2017

We stayed for a few nights at this lovely little Barn and it was just perfect for our needs. The play area for the children is great bonus and you feel like you are in the middle of no where because it is so lovely and quiet, but it takes no time at all to get to Truro and surrounding towns. Communication and check in was so easy and there were even some delicious buns for tea waiting for us when we arrived. Our twins loved the bunk beds and the whole decor is just lovely. We would definitely stay again when we next visit Cornwall.

Extremely Family Friendly

By Matt on 28-Oct-2016

Very nice, clean and quiet place. Extremely family friendly and the host couldn't have been more accommodating. High quality furnishings. The host provided everything we needed for our new born so we didn't have to fill the car with baby stuff. Very professional holiday let.

Great Location And Well Presented Accommodation

By John on 07-Oct-2016

Great location and well presented accommodation. Stayed with our 2 young girls who loved their bunk beds! Judith and Steve were great hosts, sharing information before our stay and leaving us to it when we were there but around if we needed anything. Thanks for a great time in beautiful Cornwall.

Over & Above What You Would Expect

By Alicia on 09-Sep-2016

My car was written-off whilst at The Byre and my hosts provided me with supper and transport the next day for which I was extremely grateful.
It was over and above what you would normally expect.
Thanks very much to Steve and Judith

Wonderful Stay - A Perfect Location For Exploring Lots Of Cornwall.

By Steve on 15-Jul-2016

We had a wonderful stay at Tregear Barns. This was a perfect location for exploring lots of Cornwall. We visited St Michael's Mount, Port Isaac and Tintagel, and Peranporth, St Agnes and Watergate Bay beaches. The accommodation was excellent, with everything we needed for a family of four (including guide books and tips for the local area). The kids loved the fort and swing set in the garden. We enjoyed walks through the country lanes and watching the cows across the valley walking to the milking shed every evening. Judith and Steve are great hosts, and there was adequate communication both during the booking process and our stay. We would absolutely recommend this property if you want a true rural Cornwall experience!

Perfect For Exploring North Or South Coast

By Ian on 15-Apr-2016

We had a great time at the Byre; its a perfect location for exploring either the North or South coast. Judith has done a fantastic job of making us feel very welcome (and even treated us to some hot cross buns!). We loved the privacy of the accommodation and felt properly snug on the night of the storm!

Perfect Base - Deep In The Countryside

By Mathew on 23-Oct-2015

The Byre is a lovely cottage deep in the countryside with lovely views over the hills. We were spending a few days over half term body-boarding at Newquay with our 2 boys. This was a perfect base for us. Comfortable, warm, and we really enjoyed the scones and cream waiting for us when we turned up!

Can't Recommend The Accommodation Enough

By Lisa on 17-Jul-2015

We have just returned from a week here with our 3 children, age 6, 3, 1. We had an amazing time and our holiday started as soon as we arrived with homemade scones , cream and jam. The accommodation was brilliant with all the necessary extras to make it child/ baby friendly and to save us bringing it all. The kids loved their bedroom, and the novelty of a TV in the room too! The outside space was safe and fun, and the chores enjoyed making friends with the children in Judith's other property. The locality albeit "in the middle of nowhere", was in fact in the middle of everything, and when you have kids you normally need a car for the smallest trip to carry all the stuff anywAy. We managed a different beach every day, all were amazing and reasonably accessible. We also did park and float at Falmouth, the owl sanctuary- brilliant, Eden project, steam trains. Can't recommend the accommodation enough

Le Gîte Est Magnifique, Tel Que Sur Les Photos, Très Joliment Décoré Et Très Au Calme, Avec Une Vue Splendide Sur La Campagne

By Virginie on 25-Jul-2014

Response from Judith:
Thank you very much, Virginie, for your lovely review... and here for our English visitors is a translation
We were remarkably well received by Judith and her husband, who were both very attentive and discreet. A basket of fresh fruit, a delicious Cream Tea and a vase of flowers waiting for us in the kitchen. The cottage is as beautiful as the pictures, very nicely decorated and very quiet, with a splendid view of the surrounding countryside. We were fortunate to have an amazing time (good weather), which allowed us to have breakfast on the terrace every day. We immediately felt at home with all the necessary comforts. Our 8 year old daughter has enjoyed the small playground (swing, climbing wall, slide ...), bunk bed and games and books available in the room. We remember fondly our stay in Cornwall area is superb (beaches and turquoise sea, although cool, allowed us to bathe, lush gardens, stately homes ...) and the cottage, ideally located, allows plenty places to be visited in a minimum time. We would have stayed longer, and plan on going back for another week because we have obviously not been around everything that this beautiful corner of England has to offer! Thank you to Judith and Steve for their hospitality!
