Le Stalle is a beautifully converted 18c stone self catering farmhouse offering 250 sq.m of comfortable living space. It's an ideal location for families and groups of friends wanting to spend a relaxing holiday together in the peaceful, achingly beautiful Umbrian hills.
The charming villa is on two levels. Downstairs the large open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room are separated by two original stone arches. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped for large groups. The dining table seats 10 people as does the sitting room. There's an additional spacious sitting room/library and guest bathroom with shower.
Upstairs there is another well stocked library and a corridor runs the length of the house connecting the 5 ensuite bedrooms. Three French windows open up to a wide outdoor terrace which faces the forest behind giving the sensation of immediate connection with nature. The self catering farmhouse has two open fireplaces and a further cast iron wood- burning stove in the library and central heating for winter.
Outdoors: there are spacious terraces for sitting and dining al fresco while enjoying the beautiful view of the terraced garden and valley beyond. The large swimming pool (14x7m) is a good-sized exercise pool that guests really enjoy in summer. The surrounding area is paved and gives ample space for sun beds and lounging areas. Shade is provided by a pergola as well as two mature walnut trees and there's also lots of space for sunbathing. At Poggio Le Stalle the delights of nature are always present. In front of the house there is a lovely wild-style terraced garden set out on four terraces with a treasure of herbs, mediterranean xeriscape plants, fragrant climbing roses and jasmine, plus lots of other bee and butterfly -friendly plants. The property itself backs onto a forested nature reserve. The immediate vicinity is a great place for walking, discovering wild flowers and foraging for the seasonal culinary delights on offer: mushrooms, wild asparagus, 'cicoria', blackberries, borage and wild garlic. We are off the beaten track, nestled in a valley that backs onto protected forestland yet we are also close to the medieval town of Amelia and many other famous hillside towns, with the unique artistic features and culinary specialties they offer. The surrounding countryside makes for great walking, touring and exploring. And Rome is only a 90min drive away. There are numerous Umbrian hillside towns and villages in close driving proximity.

Beautiful, tastefully furnished house, lot of space, perfect for 3 families sharing. Helen who owns the house is lovely. She lives in the house next door made us feel really welcome. The area is quite rural and unspoilt, perfect for families. Surrounding countryside is unusually green for Italy. Amelia the local hill town is worth exploring. Outdoor swimming pool a good size and lovely setting - slightly chilly in May if the sun wasn't shining but we were in it every day. Pizza evening using outdoor pizza oven on site operated by local chef was a particular highlight. Strongly recommend shiatsu massage with local practitioner arranged by Helen. In summary we had a really lovely relaxing week and would recommend!

A beautifully picturesque location in the heart of stunning Italian countryside. The house is idea of families and groups, we loved the decor too! Perfect family sizes communal spaces and the bedrooms are all en suite. Helen was wonderfully helpful and accommodating. The local town is great too, exactly what you want from an Italian holiday home.
Fantastic Friendly Place With Huge Pool, Great Views And Near Lots Of Medieval Towns
By Mei-Lin USA on 13-Dec-2018
We had a fantastic time in this wonderful part of Italy in this unique house. Lovely spacious house , full of character and with very comfortable furnishings with huge pool and great views and walks across the countryside. Away from it all property with a slightly challenging road to it, we were fine in our minibus but would be trickier for low clearance cars. Great wildlife all around. Amelia is 5 or 6 slow km away and is a lovely town to visit. We also visited Orvieto, Spoleto (beautiful characterful place), Viterbo (go to villa lante) and swam in lake bolsena. Helen and her friend Lourdes couldn't have been more helpful and were so welcoming and friendly. amazing stay. Thank you again from all the Houstons aged 16 to 80!
Third Time Visitors
By Bruce B UK on 13-Dec-2018
We had visited Poggio Le Stalle twice before the visit in 2016 and are returning in July 2017. Each visit has been different -- a special family holiday one year, with friends for a short break the next, and in 2016 one week as a relaxing break for just the two of us and the following week children and friends joined us for the week.
Poggio Le Stalle is perfect for our purposes -- large enough for up to 10, always clean and well maintained, comfortable, relaxed with all facilities, and a pool to die for. The pool is a particular favourite of ours -- large for lengths, play and beautifully situated overlooking the valley and hills beyond: and just far enough away from the house not to intrude on the terrace.
Poggio Le Stalle is off the beaten path ( which we like ) but still readily accessible. There are so many towns and places of interest to visit nearby. Rome can be visited easily by train from Orte, towns such as Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto, Assisi and special treats like Lago di Vico are all easy drives ( but start early to make the most of the towns ) and then there is gem which is nearby Amelia -- one of Italy's oldest towns.
The owner Helen is a lovely lady and will go out of her way to ensure you have everything you need -- even down to a murder mystery game and costumes! You come as guests and leave as friends looking forward to your next visit.
