Description

Villa Ellie is a detached modern villa with its own private 32 sq metre swimming pool on a small development of nine villas set at the edge of a quiet village surrounded by farmland, olive groves and orchards but with a supermarket, taverna and kafeneion within easy walking distance. It has an open plan lounge/dining room/kitchen furnished with locally made bamboo furniture and with a corner fireplace housing a traditional wood burning fire. The kitchen is fully fitted with a full oven, fridge/freezer and washing machine. There are two twin bedded bedrooms each with its own en-suite shower room and doors leading out to the terrace. The villa has wi-fi. EOT licence MHTE1041K92003162401

Outside there is a large tiled pergola to the front, side and rear of the villa providing plenty of shady seating space. The side pergola overlooks the 32 sq m swimming pool with sunbeds, a poolside shower and a large paved terrace leading to the BBQ area. The villa is situated in a tiered garden with oleanders, bougainvillea, olive and orange trees and grapevines which looks out across the olive groves. There is parking for one car.

Changeover days are flexible. The property will be available from 3pm on the day of arrival and guests must leave by 12pm on the day of departure. These times are negotiable depending on the timing of other bookings before and after your booking.

Towels (including beach towels) and bed linen are provided. The property is cleaned between visits and an extra set of towels and bed linen is provided for a two week stay.

Accessibility
Ideal for couples and families with older children. Unfortunately the property is unsuitable for people with mobility problems as it is built on a number of levels and there are steps from the road/car parking area to the villa and further steps down to the lower garden/gazebo. We regret it is also unsuitable for very young children as the pool graduates from 1.2 to 1.7 metres deep and the grounds are on two levels with steps down to a gazebo area and a lower garden area which is not fenced. We are unable to accept pets. Smoking outside the villa only please.

ABOUT THE AREA

How to get there
The nearest airport is Heraklion which is about 40 miles away along the coast road. Chania airport is about 60 miles away. Car hire is not essential if you just want a relaxing holiday visiting the local area but if you want to explore the island, reach the foothills of the mountains, the valleys and the gorges and the south coast it would prove difficult and time consuming without one.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is at the picturesque coastal village of Panormo which is about 2 kilometres away. Panormo has a harbour and two small beaches and a variety of shops, tavernas, bars and supermarkets as well as a baker. There is a half hourly bus service from Panormo into the centre of Rethymnon from early morning until late evening. Rethymnon is about a 20 minute drive away by car.

Distances
The local shop and kafeneion are 5 minutes walk from the villa and the excellent village taverna is about 10 minutes walk. Panormo is approximately 2km or a 25 minutes walk away through the village and the olive groves. The town of Rethymnon is a 20 minute drive away or can be reached by bus from Panormo. Rethymnon is a historic town with a Venetian harbour and fortress. It has a long sandy beach with water sports and numerous shops, tavernas and bars.
A "little train" runs two trips from Panormo to the pottery village of Margarites in the foothills of Mount Ida and to the typical Cretan village of Melidoni and on to the Melidoni cave.

Delightful and tranquil villa

By Tracey P on 13-Sep-2023

Villa Ellie provided us with a well equipped base for exploring Panermos again but most days we enjoyed the good weather relaxing and sunbathing by the pool. There is plenty of room to eat outside in shade or sun . Villa is spacious inside with well equipped kitchen, drying racks for wet towels, good clothes storage, fan and air-con if needed in the bedrooms. Two good sized modern bathrooms-not always a given in Greece. Plenty of books, games and DVDs if required. Would recommend a small car if hiring one as it makes navigating the narrow village roads and parking at the villa easier. Owner Carol is easy to deal with and very helpful.

BLISS

By Sheena Niven on 20-Aug-2023

We have done many, many villas abroad and they have never disappointed. Villa Ellie certainly did not disappoint either. It lies on the edge of a small village, Roumeli about a mile inland from Panormas. The area is beautiful and still very unspoiled by the massive tourism influx everywhere. This is still a lovely typically Green haven of calm and an absolute sanctuary for peace and quiet. There were two Kafenions and one taverna. We never made it to the taverna as it was quite a walk uphill and my husbands walking wasn't up to it but that's fine. We ate most nights in Panormas which is a beautiful village righ on the sea and very affordable. We spent most of our time at the villa as this was our first holiday we didn't want to be touring everywhere as previously. The pool was amazing, the villa was everything you need. Clean, comfortable and private. Air con was great for during the night and having two bathrooms was ideal especially with a 21 year old daughter who was happy to chill during her Uni break. We did a wee washing during the week and it was dry in no time meaning not having to take massive washings back home. The supermarket stocks everything you want. Brilliant selection of books in the villa and being at the pool all day we consumed them.lol. Coming back in at night and sitting at the pool was lovely and we didn't get many mosquito bites at all. I think if we had stayed another week we might not have come home, possibly taking up squatters rights ! Very much recommend this villa it has everything you could want. The pool is quite deep so I would say swimmers only but it has lovely wide steps you can sit on and take it all in. Fairy lights come on at night round the pool which is lovely. Another set down the stairway would be good as the stair light went out quite quickly but we used a torch. I would suggest you take the essentials like bread, milk, butter etc in with you on arrival to save you going back out and leaving this oasis of calm.

A fantastic base for exploring

By Simon Stunell on 05-Aug-2023

Well, we all decided that our holiday to Crete was our best yet. Your villa was perfect for us. We had days out in Rethymno, Heraklion and Chania, along with visits to Melidoni (the Carob and Olive taverna was amazing, along with the cave - our visit to the olive oil factory was great - Joanna from Alabama was lovely - and the honey farm too), Margarites, Triopetra, Spilies beach etc. all combined to give us an unforgettable experience. In terms of Wi-Fi, Carole had let us know that she'd been unable to organise Internet prior to our stay. This wasn't an issue for us, we simply took an old mobile to act as a wi-fi hotspot, and bought a prepaid SIM card from a Germanos shop - 1 month unlimited data only for €12. All in all, a great place to stay and a fabulous island to visit.

Thank you so much for the review and so glad you had such a lovely holiday. Thanks also for the helpful information regarding the hotspot and the SIM card and the photographs from your drone, one of which is now my main photo..
