Description

You pay NO BOOKING FEES when booked using this web-site.
A 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage with private pool at Domme - sleeps 6. Our rates include linens, towels (except pool towels), utilities, phone calls to land lines, Wi-Fi broadband access and normal end-of-stay cleaning.
La Falaise is an unusual cottage built into the cliff just outside the fortifications of the medieval village of Domme - officially classified as 'One of the most Beautiful Villages of France'. It has its own private pool on a rocky terrace with a small garden. Being on the side of the hill, the views are extensive.

Inside, the living room with its rock wall, has a wood burning stove, satellite TV, DVD player and a large library of books and DVDs. The kitchen, separated from the living room by a Gothic rood screen, is fully equipped with a fan assisted oven, a 5 burner gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and all the utensils needed to prepare elaborate meals. (But the large range of restaurants in Domme are only 5 minutes' walk away!)

Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which can be made en suite with the main bedroom and dressing room. The second bedroom has a small balcony affording views across the valley.

Rates: Our rates include normal end-of-stay cleaning and all linens except pool towels.

A car is recommended to get the best out of the fantastic attractions of the area but the shops and restaurants of Domme are a 5 minute walk away.

This is the most exciting area of the Dordogne - where the river passes through steep cliffs and past spectacular castles. Canoeing (close by Domme) is a wonderful experience as is visiting the markets, castles, châteaux, caves and prehistoric sites of the area. Domme itself has its own cave system. The Perigord Noir is also known for its food - particularly in the autumn - and Domme has a range of restaurants from the simple to the star rated. As Henry Miller said of Domme: 'Just to glimpse the black, mysterious river at Domme from the beautiful bluff is something to be grateful for all one's life'.

Other Activities: Canoeing, caves, châteaux, castles. Treetop adventure courses.

For Us The Best Rental We Have Stayed In.

By John H. on 23-Sep-2017

For us the standard of finish is excellent, the owners have really made an effort to make this house a home for the time you spend there, personal touches from the welcome pack, WiFi, shops, quality towels, furniture and love the arches downstairs. We stayed once in Cliff side house and it suffered from damp, not this house I don’t know how they have done it but they have it doesn’t feel damp just cosy. The location you can walk up to Domme which means you will have earnt you lunch. To tour the area excellent location. No issues, no complaints only a recommendation.
My Response
Thank you very much for such a kind review. It's so good to have your appreciation of the quirky aspects of La Falaise as well as of what we have done to make it comfortable. We love giving our guests the opportunity to enjoy the fabulous village of Domme. Kind regards, Andrea

Beautiful Location

By Matthew S. on 11-Aug-2017

A wonderful little find. Off the beaten track but within easy walking distance of Domme. The house itself is quite spacious and has good facilities; the only small improvements would have been the addition of air conditioning in the bedrooms (not necessary downstairs as this keeps lovely and cool), and also the showers leak slightly and need mopping after use. That said, the library is great, bbq and outside area superb, the pool is in a great location and has good number of sunbeds. I was concerned before going that there wouldn't be space for sunbathing as no photo showed this area but in fact it has a gem of a sunbathing terrace with wonderful views and both shady and sunny spots. With regard to Domme itself; it is brilliantly placed for visiting all the key attractions of the Dordogne. The only slight disappointment is the quality and variety of restaurants in the town, but the views made up for this. The hosts were attentive and good fun. Would recommend this to anyone (in our case we were a family of two adults and three older children).

Wonderful Stay In The Dordogne

By Linda I. on 18-Jul-2017

We have just returned from two wonderful weeks staying at La Falaise in the village of Domme in the Dordogne. The cottage is built into the rock which means it is very cool and a welcome relief after the day spent by the private pool in the summer sun. It is very well equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing stay. The beds are extremely comfortable with excellent quality linen. The house is spotless throughout and the comfort of the guests has been very carefully considered. The generous welcome pack gets you off to a great start. There is a barbecue for outside cooking but also an oven and five ring hob should you wish to cook indoors. The kind hosts, who live just up the lane, have a wealth of local knowledge and are happy to offer advice for trips out to local markets and sites but equally happy to leave you to your own plans. The village of Domme is in a great location for exploring and a canoe trip down the Dordogne is an essential for our family. We have rented cottages throughout France over the last 25 years and without doubt this has been our favourite.
My Response
Thank you so much for such a nice review. It's good to hear you enjoyed the coolness of almost being a troglodyte for your holiday! Kind regards, Andrea

Beautiful,well Maintained Property

By Kevin Robinson on 01-Oct-2016

The Dordogne is my favourite area of France and this was my first visit and stay in Domme. Domme is breathtaking, an old walled town with commanding views of the rolling landscape that surround the Dordogne. Domme itself has an array of good restaurants that you can walk to in the vending to dine and it has all the amenities that yiu will need including the local bakery where you can grab fresh bead and croissants for breakfast. While Domme is wonderful, the property itself compliments the town wonderfully. The property is built into the hillside which keeps it cool during the long warm days and it is maintained to a high standard so that should you want to eat in then you have everything that you need including a supermarket which is a 5 minute drive away. The property has satellite TV so you can tune into British TV or you have French TV should you prefer. Wifi is also in the property which helps you plan your days in and around the area. If you prefer to eat out then it's a 5 minute walk up the hill and into Domme where you won't be disappointed. The pool to the property is in a beautiful location and you look down into the valley from your elevated location, it has all the furniture that you'll need to spend lazy days around the pool. I can't recommend this property highly enough.

Lovely Dordogne Hillside Country Cottage

By Mark T. on 30-Sep-2016

We arrived at La Falaise very tired following a 2 day drive from the UK and on arrival we were not disappointed at all! The cottage is immaculate and contains all of the mod cons you could need whilst retaining the traditional style and character of a French country gite. It is nicely secluded within the cliffside trees but still offers stunning South facing panoramic views of the Dordogne fields and hills from its pool garden. The pool and garden area are very clean and with enough chairs, table, sunbeds etc. for all the family (there were 5 of us) and is a great a place to relax and and enjoys the views. The pool is alarmed (loud alarm), however, is not visible from the cottage itself so we did not let our children go in the pool on their own. In the local area there are plenty of attractions. We enjoyed kayaking down the river from nearby Cenac, horse riding, hiring bikes from the nearby Bikebus at Castelnaud (great service from Joel and Pierre) and exploring the local area. There are plenty of prehistoric caves which are worth a visit also. Domme itself is a 10 minute walk up the hill and there are plenty of local restaurants with a couple of other options thrown in (pizza and Thai). We ate out in Domme most nights during our 2 week stay except for a couple of times when we just fancied staying at the cottage and having a BBQ. Overall, we found La Falaise a great holiday base to explore the region or just relax by the pool and do nothing. During the Summer, the owner (Andrea) lives a short distance down the same small private road and was readily available if we required anything during our stay, not that we did. Thanks again Andrea for your generous hospitality and for making us so welcome and feel settled so quickly at La Falaise.

Beautiful Cottage With Many Thoughtful Touches

By Nicholas W. on 17-Aug-2015

This cottage is ideally situated a few minutes walk from Domme. It is beautifully maintained, and the owners, who were in the next house for the duration of our stay, could not have been more helpful or friendly. It was clear they wanted us to get the most out of our stay, and we had a lovely week. The welcome pack set us up well for our first day, and even included a bottle of champagne. The cottage itself is ideal for families, and the three bedrooms have been cleverly appointed to provide flexibility and comfort. The kitchen is especially well equipped, and the pool is perfect for an afternoon dip on a hot day. There is everything you could need for an excellent holiday and I can't recommend it highly enough.
My Response
Thank you so much for your kind words. It's very good to hear that you enjoyed the place. We would be delighted to welcome you to La Falaise again. Andrea
