'Les Fauvettes' is a chalet of 11 apartments, clad in antique wood. Ours is on the ground floor facing west through French windows across our patio and lawn to the mountains, lovely all year round for lazing in the sun, and evening barbecues. The main 'Medran' gondola lifts are about 130 metres away, giving almost ski-in/ski-out convenience Xmas - Easter to the huge 4 valleys system, with a choice of bars and restaurants nearby. There are lots more shops, bars etc. around the town centre which is just 600 metres away. Lifts are run in summer, up to 3,300m/11,000ft, giving access to tremendous walks, mountain bike trails, parasailing, and views from the Matterhorn round to Mt Blanc. The town runs an internationally renowned 2-week music festival in July/August, all standards of mountain biking up to International Competition level, equestrian events, and other sports; a superb sports centre for swimming (indoor and heated outdoor pools), tennis, skating etc. Golf: in town is a testing 18-hole par-3, whilst just above town there is a very scenic par-70 course - also Crans Montana which hosts the Swiss Open is about an hour's drive away. Vineyards are not far below, giving an idea of the summer climate - Aosta in Italy via the St Bernard, (either over the top past the hospice at 3,000m, or through the tunnel), and Chamonix/Mt Blanc via the Forclaz Pass are lovely easy day tours.
In 2015 the apartment has been re-tiled, carpeted and painted throughout, and consists of a useful hallway with a wardrobe, coat-hanging, shelves and 2 benches, leading to:
The part pine-panelled living room with comfortable lounge seating - a large sofa-bed and 2 easy chairs with coffee table, side table, small chest of drawers, and a large rug over the tiled floor. There is a television with the main BBC and ITV channels, Sky News, CNN, Eurosport, BBC World Service radio, plus various Swiss, German, etc, channels; a DVD player and a CD stereo. French windows face west to an extensive uninterrupted distant mountain view, with a paved covered patio and an assortment of tables and chairs - excellent for sundowners or a barbecue in late-ski season & summer. There are various games - Scrabble, backgammon, boules, jigsaws, etc. A curtain divides the room providing privacy when the sofa-bed is converted - this quickly folds out to a large double well-supported mattress (150 x 200 cms; 5' x 6'6") without needing to remove its main cushions. A good assortment of lighting provides atmosphere, and there is a small mirror next to the chest of drawers. A night-store heater keeps the whole room warm and cosy.
The kitchen/dining end has an oval pine dining table and chairs, (4 fixed, plus 4 folding in a small cupboard when required, all with cushions); a 4-ring electric cooker with oven & grill and extractor fan over; microwave; fridge with small freezer compartment, pine dresser and cupboards well stocked with cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery & glassware. A side window next to the cooker provides an impromptu extra fridge on its window cill in winter, with a view to the secondary 'Savoleyres' ski area!
The bedroom is part pine-panelled, with fitted carpet and a rug. It has a double bed, and a pair of full adult single bed-sized bunks, all with good quality medium-sprung mattresses. Again, a curtain divides the room for privacy when required. All duvets are John Lewis goose-down, with an assortment of feather and man-made pillows. 2 large fitted wardrobes provide adequate storage; all bedsides have lights and shelves, and there are 2 mirrors. There is a panel radiator with thermostat.
The fully tiled bathroom also leads off the hall, and has been totally refitted in 2015. It has a loo, a wash-basin with towel rail and cupboard with mirror & lighting over, shelves, and a bath with shower fittings and a curtain. A convector panel radiator with thermostat provides quick heating and good drying to three towel rails above.
We have a small cellar where you can store baggage if required, and there is a laundry room next to the apartment with a communal coin-operated Miele machine and separate tumble drier. There is a ski-room by the main entrance.
Outside the main entrance, there is some open parking which the concierge clears of snow as required, and a covered staircase gives direct access to the underground garage where we have our own designated space.
The accommodaion is lovely for 2, fine for 4, and possible for 6, depending on the composition of your party. Our rates - which INCLUDE the Verbier CHF4 p-p/p-night VISITOR TAX, (giving FREE lifts for pedestrians in summer!); LAUNDRY (1 bath towel pp pw & bedding + sundries) and FINAL CLEANING - are based on 2 occupants, varying greatly on whether winter or summer, and adding more for larger numbers - please do ask for a quote. In mid & high SKI SEASON we want Saturday 2pm - Saturday 10am WEEKLY bookings; but in low ski season, spring, summer & autumn, dates are flexible, with a suggested minimum of a 5-day stay. (Note: we require the principal renter to be over 25, and regret we do not take all-male bookings after experiencing problems in the past.) 10% discount for 2 weeks or more booking.
We will happily hold specific dates for a few days whilst you investigate travel, etc, then would like £100 deposit to confirm. The balance, plus £100 refundable key/breakage deposit is then due 6 weeks before departure, after which we send you a key and directions in good time - there are additional keys in the apartment to use during your holiday.. Do note that we will have expected to have direct contact with you by telephone, on our UK Bucks landline, and you will have our home address there for reassurance that we are genuine!
