Beautifully appointed villa with spectacular views
By Sadie B on 21-Aug-2019
We stayed in this villa with our family of 6. 3 generations with our 2 older teens and have visited this area over the last 10 years. Even though more off track , this is our favourite villa to date! Spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The villa is perfectly designed so that all rooms have a sea view so no arguments among the family. The villa also benefits from a ground floor bedroom & separate bathroom that our own parents used The solar heated pool gives glorious views of Souda bay and the distant White mountains and was a welcome relief from the Summer heat. There is a separate outdoor kitchen area for BBQ's and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy your meals/drinks outside. You'll need a car as the village & shop of Kokhino Chorio is just over 1km away uphill & 5km from Almyrida beach. The drive down/up the track to & from the villa is very steep and bumpy . Therefore, I would advise hiring a car with a higher ground clearance if you are in a large party with lots of luggage or 2 separate small cars . However, the villa owners send a helpful You Tube video when you book to give you an idea of the route into the villa which is particularly helpful if you plan to arrive at night. As a confident drivers we would definitely stay again and our own parents loved the villa and exploring the area with us where we showed them our favourite spots.

We stayed in this villa in peak season, and it was absolutely beautiful. Tucked away so very private, but close enough to local towns and villages for restaurants, bars and beaches (5-15min drive). We spent a lot of time in the gorgeous infinity pool & evenings cooking on the BBQ and relaxing on the terrace.
It is really well equipped, with lots of great little touches; pens/paper, citronella candles/burners, towel clips, a great selection of books & games to mention just a few! There is also a dishwasher & washing machine, both supplied with detergents, a life-saver for a family holiday!
We will definitely be back :)
What a treasure in Kokkino Chorio.

We had a fantastic time at this villa. Great location, secluded but with access to a local supermarket in the village which stocked everything you need. Locals were really friendly. Amazing sunsets, lovely pool and the villa is equipped with all the facilities you need for a great stay which makes such a difference. Only a couple of things that would have improved our stay was if the safe was working and the mattress on the upstairs bed was more comfortable. Great tavernas and local beaches are certainly worth a visit, Samaria Gorge walk and a visit to Chania is a must. So much to see on this beautiful island. Look forward to exploring it more. Tks for a great stay.

The property was superb, tucked away on the edge of a small village. The views over the Sea of Crete were amazing. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat and everything about the property was very well maintained. We had a really chilled time and would return in a heat beat. Thank you so much to Gary and Sallie for being so attentive and also thanks to Walter and Isobel the local property managers.

Well designed villa
By Richard G on 23-Aug-2018
Well designed, built and maintained modern stone villa with great view over Souda Bay and the peninsula. Characterful small seaside resorts/good dining with lots of choice nearby. Lots of winding roads and long steep single track access but worth it. Crete large island with lots to explore and places of great historical interest.Loved it

We had a wonderful stay at this spectacular location. The villa was well supplied - plenty of crockery and cutlery and furnished to a high standard. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of storage in the bedrooms. We were particularly pleased to have pool/beach towels provided, as this can take up a lot of luggage room! The children were entertained by videos and games at the villa and we spent wonderful days at the beach (the one at west end of Kalyves was great) and the pool was well used as the solar heating took the chill off the water. The road to the villa was a bit challenging due to holes and rocks but we had two small cars which managed this perfectly well. The instructions for finding the villa were very helpful although we were glad we arrived in the daylight.
The view from the villa is to die for! We have stayed in dozens of villas but have never come across one with such a wonderful view. In October, the weather was warm and we only had one rainy day in a fortnight.
There is a good supermarket near Kalyves beach and a big one on the way to the villa from Chania airport, so you can stock up before arriving.
Beautiful villa with a fantastic view!
By Kimberley V on 27-Aug-2017
Once we had eventually found the villa(check out the you tube clip that the owners email you prior to your visit...we didn't!) we arrived to a spotlessly clean, well equipped villa.
You definitely need a car and would recommend a 4 wheel drive with enough ground clearance to manage the steep, uneven track leading to the property.
The owners had given careful consideration when equipping the villa with more than enough plates, glasses, cutlery etc. Nice extras such as a bottle of wine, milk and bread on arrival.
Fantastic view of Souda Bay from the veranda and pool and areas of shade around the property for when it got too hot!
Air conditioning in the bedrooms lovely at night but downstairs in the day you got enough breeze through the doors to keep it cool.
Nice to be able to use adapters provided in all rooms for your own appliances. Loads of games and books provided for entertainment however we lost the will with the 'genius' version of Trivial Pursuit!
If there was one criticism it would be the hard double bed but it is really tricky to please everyone and for 1 week was fine.
We enjoyed eating in Plaka in the evenings which is only a 5 min drive away.
The owners are particularly accommodating and speedy with the paying back the breakage deposit ( I guess if you don't break anything!)
All in all I would highly reccommmend.
Superbe villa très bien équipée avec piscine et une vue mer magnifique

La région offre de nombreuses possibilités de visite (vieille ville de Chanta et Rethymnon) de plages ou criques et de randonnée dans des gorges
Beautiful villa and views. Really well finished
By Lucy W on 21-Aug-2017
Great villa, well equipped and very well finished inside. Aircon in all bedrooms and the living area was appreciated and the first time we've had a solar heated pool, which really took the edge off the kid's 8am swims! Also noticed the location provides some protection when the wind when it gets up. Definitely recommend.
A fanastic, secluded gem of a villa.
By Mrs Josephine Geear on 21-Oct-2015
We had a wonderful two week family holiday staying in this beautiful villa.
It is a real gem. We were delighted and excited when we arrived - it is even more lovely than the photos on line make it look! It was perfect for us as a family of 6. Well worth the drive up and down the unmade track to the secluded, very private location. The setting is amazing with spectacular views out to sea which we loved and were a joy to wake up to everyday. It was peaceful and relaxing. The pool is perfect and it was very nice to have the use of lilos and balls too. We enjoyed the covered outdoor terrace at lunchtime and in the evening. The well compiled file/book in the villa has all the information in it that you need to know. Easy driving distance to lots of lovely locations - we particularly enjoyed Chania, the capital of the west of Crete with its beautiful old Venetian town and harbour and pretty lighthouse.
The property has a well equipped kitchen and it was great to have the use of a washing machine!
We highly recommend Craftman's Pride and very much hope to stay there again one day.
The owners provide very good customer service indeed and the property is well maintained and clean.
Lovely Villa, lovely views
By Julian W on 26-Jul-2015
A lovely villa in a secluded spot, with views over the bay and coastline. Beautifully kept villa, furnished to the highest standard. Everything you need is there, from DVD's, books, a good wifi internet connection, air conditioning, towels, coffee maker, satlellite tv, bbq. Nice quiet area, good pool. Would recommend this to anyone.
By Marjorie C on 12-Jul-2015
This is a fantastic villa, equipped with everything you need and more. It is a very peaceful location and the views are stunning. The infinity pool is brilliant and the whole property is kept in pristine condition by the very friendly managers, Isobel and Walter.
The tavernas in Plaka offer a great variety of delicious food, or drive down to nearby Almyrida and eat beside the sea. Don't miss a visit to the wonderful bakery in Almyrida.
We love to visit Georgioupolis, the Venetian harbour in Chania and Rethymnon. We also booked a day trip to Santorini which sailed from Rethymnon. The bus then took us on a tour, visiting Oia and Fira, followed by a choice of shopping, swimming or a sail round the volcano. It was a little expensive, but well worth a visit.
This was our second visit and we are already planning to go back next year.
As a general note, the island is quite hilly and the roads are both steep and tortuous - our recommendation would be to hire a car with automatic transmission and a reasonable ground clearance !
The owners, Gary and Sallie, are very friendly and make the booking process easy. They provide you with all the information you need to have a great holiday in Crete.

We stayed at this beautiful villa as a party of 6, 4 adults and 2 children. Gary and Sallie have thought of everything to make a perfect holiday. The villa itself is built to a very high standard and the attention to detail is second to none. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday this is the ideal location. The village is a 10 minute walk away and has a very well stocked supermarket at reasonable prices and a taverna. You will need a car and a 5/10 minute drive will take you to the larger villages. The shops, pharmacy, beaches and amazing tavernas are within easy reach. We all enjoyed this holiday and the WIFI and TV with good film channels even kept our teenager happy! As a family we were always in the infinity pool with stunning views. Isobel and Walter were very helpful and friendly. Craftsman's Pride is an idyllic spot in Crete! We are looking forward to our next visit!!
Home from Home Villa

We all had a most enjoyable stay in your villa, thank you and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in Crete. We were very impressed with the high quality of all the facilities and of course with the outstanding location. We've stayed in a number of villas but your villa has been the best by far.
For us what really stood out was the attention to detail. You have thought of everything to make it a real home from home; the convenience of having pool towels, the luxury of a dishwasher in holiday accommodation, plentiful adapters, wi-fi, which was a must for our son and an infinity pool with an outstanding view and all so tastefully furnished throughout. The villa information file was very useful and it was reassuring to have emergency numbers - just in case! Your villa managers, Walter and Isobel were extremely friendly and helpful.
We have come home with plenty of beautiful photos and great memories of a really lovely holiday.
Maybe just one small thing we could suggest, to improve on this, would be mirrors in the bedrooms.
Thank you again for letting us share your beautiful villa. Just what we all needed!

Just returned from a fantastic week at Gary & Sallie's beautiful villa on the hillside at Kokkino Horio. If your looking for a quiet holiday, with plenty of sun and want to spend your days lazing around the infinity pool overlooking Souda Bay, then this villa is just for you. If you want to jump in the car and explore the western end of Crete with its amazing coastline, olive groves and citrus plantations, then this villa is also for you. Three well appointed bedrooms with en-suite facilities, superbly appointed kitchen, large lounge, various sunny balconies and terraces plus a typical Cretan garden with young Olive trees and a small citrus grove provide an environment to suit all ages and family groups. Local tavernas abound, be it up the hill in Kokkino Horio, a short drive to Plaka or further afield in Almerida, Kalyves, Vamos or Georgioupoli. Almerida and Kalyves have excellent sandy beaches ideal for young children with safe swimming and for the more adventurous a trip to the Samaria Gorge and a boat trip back at the finish also makes for a great day out. There's so much to do in this part of Crete, whether you are adventure seekers, sightseers or sun worshippers. If you're viewing this website and are trying to make a decision about hiring it, all I would say is don't hesitate; you won't regret it.
