Description
Nerola cottage is a special place. It is a detached stone cottage for two people set in stunning countryside on the edge of the Cilento National Park with spectacular sea views and sunsets (guests tell us the photos don't do it justice). At 350m above sea level you instantly have a sense of being on top of the world in this little piece of paradise looking down towards Agropoli and across to the Amalfi Coast. At night all the lights mark the coastline around Paestum, the bay of Salerno and directly across to Amalfi town and Positano. It is also a perfect base from which to explore the many surrounding villages giving you a sense of a time gone by where life goes at a slower pace. There are archaelogical sites, national heritage sites, areas of outstanding natural beauty, hills to climb, mountainous regions to explore, clear waters to swim ....... or just relax at the cottage enjoying the peace, watching the view change before your eyes and the wildlife around you in the beautiful garden and patio.
The cottage and our farmhouse are set in 5 acres of land and countryside bordering the Cilento National Park. It makes a perfect place to relax and enjoy the calm and tranquility that is so hard to find these days. It's great for nature lovers and those who have a sense of adventure.
The cottage has a galleried bedroom overlooking the sitting room, spacious open plan living and all you will need for a self catering holiday (including sunhats, beach towels and umbrella). It has a private patio to the front and private lawned garden to the side surrounded by shrubs and plants. On the lower terrace there is a private plunge pool from the end of June to mid October. In the spring and autumn this area provides another space to eat al fresco and admire the seaview. All the areas to the front and side of the cottage have a sea view even from the bed. It isn't overlooked by any neighbours and far enough away from our house that you won't even know we're there.
We respect our guest's privacy at all times and never disturb you but we available if you need us.
There is a very good free wifi connection, a smart tv to watch dvds and netflix (with your own account).
The cottage is in a rural location although only 2.5km to the closest village of San Martino Cilento where there are 2 cafes, grocery shop and pharmacy. Laureana Cilento is a quiet medieval village also 2.5km. The small town of Torchiara is 6km with it's historic centre and offers cafes, shops, bank. Agropoli town, marina and old town perched on the hill is 10km with plenty of restaurants, shops, cafes, walks, busy piazza. It is only a 15 minute drive to the sandy beach at Baia di Trentova just outside Agropoli and there are plenty of other beaches in pretty coastal villages to choose from within a 20 minute drive such as Santa Maria di Castellabate, San Marco di Castellabate, Ogliastro Marina, Acciaroli .......... to name but a few.
Naples airport is 120km offering a direct and cheap railway connection from Naples Central station to Agropoli-Castellabate which takes 1 hour 10 mins on the fast train. There is a car hire office opposite the railway station. Rome airport is 320km and there is a direct train from Rome Termini to Agropoli which takes 3 hours 30 mins.
It is a great location from which to explore the many medieval hilltop villages, a choice of sandy beaches and pretty coastal towns. The Greek temples at Paestum are only 25 mins away. The Amalfi coast, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius are only 90 mins away. The grotto at Castelcivitella is 1hr drive. Buffalo farms to try out the creamy mozzarella and other produce are 20 mins drive with the only organic farm in southern Italy located near Paestum called Vannulo. Boat trips. The best icecream you will ever taste. Plenty of local countryside/sea walks, endless wildlife, peace, tranquillity, views that change during the day and immersed in nature. There is plenty to do in the area with festivals throughout the year, particularly in the summer months.
We provide books, cds and dvds for lazy days together with maps and local information for venturing out.
We are located just off a quiet lane driving through olive groves.
Our private track is 300m long and quite steep and uneven in places so it is necessary to hire a small car which I can provide more information about. You can park directly outside the cottage. There is a car hire office opposite the railway station at Agropoli.
The Thalasso Spa at San Marco di Castellabate is only 25 mins drive where you can luxuriate in the Sea Path' using the different pools, steam and salt rooms.
Ferries run from Salerno port to Capri and the Amalfi coast from April to October. In July and August the smaller ferries from Agropoli port to Amalfi, Positano, Capri and Palinuro.
Small motorboats can be hired from Agropoli port.
There is a car hire office opposite the railway station at Agropoli who offer a discounted rate to our guests.
I can advise on travel details and places to stay in Naples if required.
Prices are substantially discounted for the year as set out in the price table. We follow the cleaning protocol for COVID 19 and allow 48 hours between guests.
