Villa Corfino is a very spacious, light and airy village villa which has been newly refurbished as a holiday home ,complete with large brand new private pool. The owners have retained the traditional feel of the villa, preserving original flooring, doors, internal shutters and furnishing the house with antiques which are cleverly mixed with modern touches.

The bedrooms have been furnished with care, retaining the traditional feel of the villa and using antiques/restored pieces where possible, all merged with modern touches. There is also a terrace overlooking the stunning vista of the Italian Apuane mountain range.

The owners have worked with a great deal of care, to convert their much loved villa into a mountain retreat for guests. They are enthusiastic about the area and happy to share local tips with you on request and they can also assist with organising trips etc.

And, a 15 minute walk away, a private chestnut wood with picknicking and BBQ facilities for when you fancy a change of scenery or a lovely shady afternoon.

A little about location:

Situated high in the mountains is the medieaval village of Corfino, popular in the summer with Italians wishing to escape the heat of the city.
This is a really peaceful retreat in the depths of the mountains, providing a relaxing break, yet with facilities so the village does not feel too remote! There is a mini market open 7 days a week, a baker, a shop selling local produce and a newsagents. There are also local bars, one of which shows international and premiership football, and there are also 3 restaurants, all easily reachable on foot. In the coolness of the evenings it is lovely to meander around this with its cobbled streets and wonderful views…
Being based in the Appenines, this is a walkers paradise and with the National Park of Orecchiella being only a 10 minute drive, there is plenty of space for picnicking, serious or relaxing walking and Eagle spotting! There is trekking just 500M from the house, and there is a lovely short walk around the village which takes just 10 mins or so which is great to do before evening dining.
Just a stone’s throw from the Villa is a beautiful little hotel with shaded gardens where one can relax after a traditional Italian meal, and where there are play facilities for children. Here it is also possible to arrange good value and good fun cookery lessons (let us know in advance if this is of interest since they are popular).
There are supermarkets in the local village of Pieve Fosciana, a 15 minute drive and the market town of Castelnuovo is 20 minutes away. One of the local hotels provides a minibus service for easy visiting of Castelnuovo on market day so that guests don’t need to worry about parking (small fee applies).
For days out, the medieaval town of Barga is 35 mins away and is great for an afternoon or evening out, meandering its beautiful streets, exploring its Duomo, and relaxing in the various little piazzas which have bars, good restaurants, gelaterias etc most with wonderful views.
Lucca is reachable in 1 hr 15 mins and is a good day out. There is a wealth of historic buildings, interesting architecture, cobbled streets, lots of Piazza's for relaxing, people watching and listening to music. There are of course the famous walls of the city, which are fully intact and wide. - a place for cycling, jogging, picnicking or just relaxing on the grass in the shade. A day out here is truly unique, and if you stay for the evening you can take in a Puccini recital. There are lots of cultural events, regular antiques markets, concerts often with world renowned bands/artists, & of course the designer shops!
Pisa is 1 hr 35 mins away so not too long from the airport, and why not pop and see the leaning tower on your way home…
Closer to your holiday retreat is the National Park of Orecchiella; the Zip wire park not far from the ancient fortress of Verrucole, the Wind Caves, water canyoning…
Lots to do if you wish, but if you just like to relax by the pool, in a beautiful setting, with facilities just a stone’s throw away, then why leave?!

“Beautifully Perfect Family Retreat”

By on 12-Aug-2017

We had a fantastic time at Villa Corfino. The Villa is stunning and we were impressed from the moment we carefully drove up to it (the streets are narrow!) and we continued to be so throughout our stay. The lovely marble floors were the perfect contrast to the hot Tuscan sun.The Villa is absolutely perfect and 6 of us stayed here with no problem at all. Each room is spacious and the facilities are great for small children, teenagers, parents, and grandparents. The family have thought of everytign and the Villa has everything you need. The setup and layout of the Villa has been well thought out and we enjoyed having meals inside, outside and up by the pool. The pool is lovely and is perfect for those that want a retreat and for those who want to start the day and end the day with a swim and as a way to cool off.
We were met by Daria and her sister when we arrived and they were very, very helpful and got us set up and explained where everything was. The village has a supermarket and a bakery and both are great for buying provisions for breakfast and meals. Just take the time to amble around the village in the mornings and late into the evenings soak up the atmosphere.
The bakery also runs 'special' nights and you need to check the board each day to see what they are. While we were there the Piazza also had a variety of different events from Pizzas to donuts on different nights - we even joined in with a local game of 'Tobola'!
The village is absolutely beautiful and very Tuscan in its design. It is great to stroll around and just absorb life in this village. It is on a hill so just be aware of this.
We had meals at La Baita and the Hotel Panoramica and we also drove out to a local restaurant that Daria recommended. All the meals were fantastic and not expensive.
There are is also a bar and cafe in the village for those 'coffee' breaks and for having a lighter snack, as well as a late night ice cream or glass of wine.
This is super Villa, and perfect for those who want to retreat for a while and absorb Italian life and the language. Equally, it serves as a good base for those who want to go off exploring.
The National Park that is about 10 mins away is beautiful and also provides an opportunity to see bears. The 'Devils' bridge is about 20 mins away and also worth a visit.
We had the perfect Tuscan retreat at Villa Corfino and would recommend it!

Beautiful Villa

By Paula on 15-Jul-2017

This beautiful villa provided the perfect Italian getaway that we were dreaming of. Tucked away in its own spacious grounds in the middle of the mediaeval village of Corfino, this beautifully appointed villa is a luxurious home from home. The bedrooms are large and well equipped with original pieces of intricate furniture, while two boast stunning views over the valley and mountain range. Memories of throwing open the shutters onto dazzling sunshine warming the cobbled streets of a village whose ancient stones have felt the feet of generations, and highlighting the crags and crevices of the surrounding mountain peaks, can only be rivalled by late evenings on the balcony watching the disappearing sun spill its last fiery rays over scenery we photographed over and over again in a vain attempt to capture its wonder. A sizeable upstairs bathroom is supplemented by an ensuite and a downstairs toilet, enough washing facilities even for 4 teenagers! Two very different receptions rooms cater for all tastes. One is small and formally decorated, well supplied with information leaflets about activities and places of interest in the local area. The other has a massive dining table at the front window, but also a living room end with a large tv and sofas, ideal for when the kids need a break from the sun, or an evening movie. The cosy traditional kitchen is superbly equipped, with enough pots and pans to cook up any dish you could desire. There is a large kitchen table to eat at, but we usually carried our meals across the garden path to a paved area under a gazebo fitted out with picnic tables and chairs. Following a different path past the fruit trees, up the sloping garden takes you to a newly paved area with a pool and sunloungers for the sun worshippers, alongside the welcome shade of another gazebo with seating and a table for those who prefer to stay out of the direct sun. This is the perfect spot to read, out of splashing distance from the pool, but close enough to supervise younger children. A tall gate separates the property from the narrow street, with the villa set well back into the front gardens, providing a wonderful sense of privacy as well as the pleasure of walking around all the fragrant flowering shrubs which surround the exterior of the property. The owner, Daria, is most helpful and friendly, providing a really personal level of customer service, and a lovely bottle of local wine as a gift on arrival! All her recommendations for practical shopping, tourist visits and restaurants were spot on and her genuine welcome really made our holiday complete. I can’t recommend this villa highly enough - I only hope to return some day.

Beautiful spacious house with swimming pool in a nice Italian village with a small shop for daily bread and a simple meal. There are narrow streets to get to the house so a hummer can make you feel better at home.
