Description
4 Bedrooms holiday villa rental in Chiclana de la Frontera (Pago del Humo)
‘Val de Rosa’ is situated in the semi-rural village of Pago del Humo, which is only a ten-minute drive from the amazing 8 kilometre stretch of golden sands at La Barrosa beach and 30 minutes from the captivating historic city of Cadiz. It is an ideal centre from which to tour western Andalusia, with many white hilltop villages within easy reach, and only 40 minutes from Jerez, the sherry capital of Spain. Seville, the capital of Andalusia, with its astonishing cathedral, romantic river front, and lush parks and gardens, can be reached by car, train or bus in under two hours.
The large garden has secure off-road parking for up to 4 cars, and boasts a 9 x 4.5 metre swimming pool. The lawn provides an area for kids to kick a ball around, and there is a variety of planted areas, ranging from cacti to oleander with some exotic species in between, two fountains, and a large well-stocked fish-pond. There are also some local feral cats who visit the garden.
The villa is beautifully furnished in a style that combines the contemporary and traditional, with something of a nod to Moroccan influences. There is air-conditioning in the two main bedrooms and gas central heating for those cooler evenings in the winter months. The property is registered by the Junta of Andalucia (CTC-2017068550), as complying with all the region's requirements for rental properties, including safety measures and the provision of drinking water.
Pago del Humo retains much of its traditional village atmosphere with a strong sense of community, resulting in a safe, crime-free environment. It has a pharmacy, a mini-market, and an ironmongery, though the latter is unlikely to be of interest to holidaymakers! The village’s main restaurant/bar ‘Venta La Sorpresa’, only 5 minutes’ easy walk from Val de Rosa, is very much the neighbourhood hub and is particularly lively when Cadiz FC is playing Real Madrid. There are also a number of smaller, more intimate 'ventas' on the road leading into town. Pago is situated on the outskirts of Chiclana de la Frontera, a traditional Spanish town, off the tourist map, but with much to offer in the way of shops and all types of restaurants and bars. It even has its own bull-ring and a little museum of bullfighting, as well as a new museum of wine and salt, and a fascinating municipal museum providing an insight into local history.
There is a regular bus service from Pago into Chiclana. On the edge of the salt marshes at the estuary of the River Iro, Chiclana has a magnificently diverse landscape, and is surrounded by a number of national parks which attract migrating birds and raptors. Most of the year storks can be seen nesting on pylons around the neighbourhood, and flying low over the garden, making their distinctive clacking sound. It is to this area that the Spanish come for their vacations, and many own holiday homes in the district. In common with other cities in area, Chiclana has an annual fair or 'feria' in June, celebrating Spanish culture in the exuberant Andalusian style, when whole families turn out in traditional costumes and horse-drawn carriages appear on the streets.
For golfers there are several courses within 10-15 minutes drive of Pago del Humo. At Novo Sancti Petri there are two 18 hole courses designed by Severiano Ballesteros. Further afield, the course at Montenmedio to the south of Vejer offers plenty of variety in spectacular surroundings, with first class facilities, as do both Vistahermosa near Puerto de Santa Maria and Montecastillo at Vejer (designed by Jack Nicklaus).
There is also a variety of interesting walks, ranging from a stroll along the beach to long-distance paths. We have some detailed guidance for serious walkers, which can be sent out on request. Cycling is also popular throughout the area, which is relatively flat, and bikes can be hired at a local shopping centre.
All our guests receive a complimentary copy of our booklet which gives a comprehensive guide to the area’s beaches, bars/restaurants and other attractions as well as detailed instructions to help holidaymakers to make the most of facilities provided.
