Perfect Holiday!

By The Longford Family (Oxford) on 24-Jun-2017

I treated my family to a holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday (6 of us age range 23-62) and looked for a Villa Rental with a pool, near to a village and beach. We chose the Aegean Blue Villa Rental after considerable searching and were impressed with the reviews.
We arrived in darkness and woke the next morning to a fantastic view over the Bay of Souda. The reviews and website really do not do justice to being there.
The Villa Rental is as beautiful as described on the website and more. It is very comfortable and very stylish, inside and out. You will find everything you need to have a fantastic holiday. The outside kitchen, barbeque and indoor kitchen are very well equipped should you want to be completely self-catered. You will find a lot of useful information about Crete and the local area in folders in the villa.
We didn't have a car so walked to and from Almyrida once or twice a day. The walk down the main road was ok but we preferred the scenic walk although be aware that the last short section is quite steep and definitely not for the infirm. Both took approx. 10-15mins. Almyrida is a lovely village with plenty of choice of restaurants, shops and a lovely safe sandy beach. As the temperatures were excessive we spent our time either by the beautiful infinity pool at the Villa Rental or on the beach. The pool is a good size with stunning views.
We had such a relaxing holiday we would not hesitate to go back.

We are a family of four with a teenage daughter and son, aged 13 and 14 and we have enjoyed a truly spectacular week at the Aegean Blue villa. The Villa Rental itself is immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and well equipped, making it feel like home. We particularly enjoyed the stunning, warm pool and outdoor areas, with their captivating views across the White Mountains and Ocean. The children also delighted in feeding and making a fuss of Pandora the cat! The Villa Rental itself is perfectly placed to be able to easily access on foot the local beaches, Tavernas and amenities. As well as thoroughly enjoying the beaches at Kera, Almyrida and Kalyves, we also drove west to spend a day at Elafonisi, where the beach was as beautiful as any we experienced in the Seychelles, with crystal clear, azure waters and pink sand. Other highlights were the fantastic “Dream Adventure” boat trip from Almyrida, in which you speed along the coast, explore the cliff-side caves and snorkel from the boat and also the traditional Greek night at Cretan Corner up in the mountain village of Aptera. Here we had a lovely meal with dancing, which we participated in and greatly enjoyed! The quality of food and hospitality in the local Tavernas was outstanding; our particular favourites were “Francoise” in Almyrida, perfect for breakfast and lunch time snacks, “Cretan Corner” in Aptera, where we had the best Stifado and “Drosostalia” in Armeni, where we had the largest and most delicious pork chop imaginable! There is so much to do in the local area for all ages and fitness levels, although, with such stunning views, it is tempting to stay at the Villa Rental and relax. We have enjoyed a perfect week and would highly recommend staying here.

Dear Richard and Sally - I would like to say how much we enjoyed our holiday in your beautiful Villa Rental in Crete. The location is spectacular with amazing views. We were blessed with fantastic weather for our stay and this enabled us to make full use of the fantastic facilities and outside space of the Villa. So much space to sit, eat and relax. The pool was divine and after a day exploring the local beaches of Kalyves, it was always a pleasure to come back to our own little slice of heaven. I would greatly recommend the Villa Rental and we will certainly be returning. It was probably the best and most relaxing holiday ever. Location is perfect, the tavernas and local shops have everything you could want and a visit to Chania Town was a very enjoyable experience. One again thank you both so much for a delightful holiday.

Amazing Views

By Anonymous on 28-May-2016

Lovely villa, with all (and more) the facilities etc you'd need or want. We all loved the pool (cleaned twice a week), and the outdoor kitchen/eating area, with amazing views over Souda bay. Nearest village (Almyrida) is 10 mins walk away down the hill, we loved the first taverna you come to, Lagos, and ate there a few times, though there's also plenty in the village. Kalyves is slightly bigger, and 30ish mins walk away but we drove there as we've two young children. Large beach, plenty of tavernas etc (we can recommend Kritiko). Chania old town & harbour is worth a visit, we also went to Knossos which was very hot and busy, but if you must visit only one Minoan ruin this is the one! All in all a lovely holiday with fantastic accommodation, we don't usually return to places (as there's always new places to go), but I think we'll be breaking this rule for Aegean Blue Villa!

Aegean Blue Villa Rental was everything we expected and more. The Villa Rental has a touch of luxury inside, very tasteful and quality furnishings make it a real home rather than rental property. Outside the property, the choice of seating and lounging areas was great for family members and the infinity pool was the best we have experienced. The views were spectacular that not even video or photos fully reflect. We spent our week either enjoying the lovely restaurants, cafes and beach at Almyrida within easy walking distance of the Villa Rental or down at Kera Beach. Aegean Villa Rental is a perfect base for complete relaxation or exploring West Crete through a rental car or taxi that are easy to hire in the village. The Appleby Family West Midlands

Very Highly Recommended

By The Allans on 13-Aug-2013

The Allen family stayed at the Villa Rental for three weeks, and we endorse all the favourable remarks made by former visitors. A wonderful villa, easily accommodating six adults, and equipped to a very high standard. As everyone remarks, the views are sensational, and the shooting stars are great. Almyrida is a wonderful spot. Big enough to offer everything you might need yet not so big that you feel overwhelmed. We never had a bad meal. The restaurant on the bend at the bottom of the hill, O Lagos, is very very good for fish, we liked for fresh fruit & veg, the Pear Tree is unbeatable. If you need to hire a car, the people at Flisvos are first rate, and even helped me repair a puncture on a car that did not belong to them. A little booklet available locally called Discover Almyrida & Kalives on foot is a mine of useful information, even if you drive. Try the sea caves and cove detailed in Walk 11. Magical. Excellent swimming at Kalyves, too. We would be very happy to return to the Aegean Blue. A truly great time was had by all -- and chicken cooked on a spit has to be tasted to be believed. Terrific.

The Mesrie's Family Holiday

By Michael Mesrie on 06-Aug-2013

We had such a wonderful holiday in Aegean Blue Villa Rental Crete. The photos did not do it justice because the views of the sea and mountains were far more spectacular and the outside space much larger than we expected. Inside and out were very clean when we arrived and the pool the cleanest I have ever seen at a villa! The Villa Rental was situated not far from the wonderful sandy beaches of Almyrida. We were also impressed at the high standard of food at the restaurants in Almyrida village in particular Thalami and at nearby Plaka, una faccia una razza and on the rocks. We made a 2 hour trip through the mountains to the heavenly Elafonissi beach. It is a pink sand beach with turquoise lagoons. The mountain villages were great with fresh air and friendly faces and made the trip one of the most pleasurable family days out we have ever experienced. Our kids aged 11,10 &10 thoroughly enjoyed the villa, the pool, the sandy beaches & the views as did their parents! We highly recommend this Villa Rental - The Mesrie's, Cheshire August 2013

Superb Villa For Family Or Party.

By Anonymous on 09-Jul-2013

The Villa Rental is beautifully maintained and has spectacular views. Everything is tastefully done and provided plenty of space for 5 adults staying there. We made great use of the outdoor areas which allowed for all of us to have our own space if we needed it. Although a car is not necessary, it was really useful as we were not all young. It is only ten minutes walk to Almyrida but if walking back at night, I would recommend a torch - we bought one cheaply in the village. The information kindly provided before we left and in the Villa Rental was invaluable and up-to-date, so thanks again for that. Overall, a wonderful experience for a group comprising three generations and lovely to be able to entertain friends staying nearby.

By Paula Ann on 30-Oct-2012

We have recently returned from a wonderful week in Crete, staying at the Aegean Blue Villa Rental in Kera, near Almyrida.

I have no need to repeat the glowing recommendations of other guests and reviewers, though I do concur with them. I would simply like to add, that wherever we travelled during our visit to this most beautiful Island, we were always very happy to be 'home.'

A lot has been said about the villa's amenities and comfort; I would like to mention the Lefka Ori, (White Mountains) So much of the time spent at the Villa Rental we sat, either on the balcony, or in the outside seating area, simply staring at the ever changing mountain vista. Their beauty is stunning, it was difficult to concentrate on anything else, hard to read a book, play a game of backgammon, or do anything other than stare at them.

Unless ....... we were staring out at Souda Bay. Once again, the view changed constantly, depending upon the time of day and the weather. (Which incidentally, was wonderful, most unexpected and welcome.) We watched fishermen diving to tend to their lobster pots, people bathing in Kera bay, boats of all sizes, Cruise ships, fishing boats, and even a mine sweeper from the nearby NATO base. The colours ebbed and flowed. Oh ...... and to fall asleep with that view each night, and wake each morning to a different shade, is something we will never forget. We could hear the waves caressing the shoreline. Wonderful.

Almyrida is an easy walk away and has lots of good tavernas and bars. A few were still open in November and were welcoming and offered very good food. The beach at Almyrida is lovely too and we swam - without a sharp intake of breath as the sea was warm and calm. Kalyves was our favourite village as it is a working village, therefore authentic. Not as pretty as Almyrida, but full of life and atmosphere. We thought it too far to walk. Some historic sites were still open in November, and; it is the beginning of the Olive harvesting and processing season.

We highly recommend Crete, in November, at the Aegean Blue Villa, and warmly thank Richard and Sally for their hospitality.

A Beautiful Villa In A Beautiful Place

By John on 14-Aug-2012

The family and I stayed in the Aegean Blue Villa Rental for one wonderful relaxing week. The Villa Rental itself was very comfortable, tastefully decorated & furnished and spotlessly clean. There are two large upstairs double bedrooms with balcony looking out onto the very picturesque scenery. Very nice to wake up to that view every morning.
The Villa Rental has excellent amenities; a well equipped kitchen, if you feel inclined to cook, TV, DVD player and air con in all the rooms for those really hot nights. As well as the interior there is large outside space with barbecue area, patio and the infinity swimming, which we spent a lot time in.
The Aegean Blue is in an elevated position overlooking Souda Bay and surrounded by spectacular mountains. The setting is stunningly beautiful and would be worth the stay in the Villa Rental alone.
Almyrida which is just a 10 minute walk away and has a lovely beach and some really good restaurants. The little Taverna on the right hand side of the road just before you go into town has a nice little vineyard garden at the back where you eat. It serves good wholesome Cretan food.
The Villa Rental owners were extremely helpful, booking the Villa Rental was straight forward and lots of useful information was provided including recommending a reliable taxi service to pick us up Chania Airport, which is just 25 minutes from Almirida.
We had a great holiday in a top notch Villa Rental in a beautiful part of the world

Villa With The WOW Factor

By Tom on 28-Apr-2012

Booking this holiday was so easy with the quality on information supplied by Richard. The arrival pack (pre-supplied) allowed to plan to get the best from the holiday, right down to pre-booking the local taxi for airport transfers.

On arrival, just 1/2 hour taxi ride. We found the Villa Rental in immaculate condition and more than suited the needs and space for 6 adults comfortably.

The outdoor area was fantastic with its infinity pool, lots of seating and very pretty gardens. However the focal point was the outside kitchen and diner, everything you budding masterchefs need.

We visited in spring and the views from the Villa Rental were breathtaking, we had a stunning blue sea and bay, only surpassed by the snowcapped mountains. On the short walk down the hill into the village, everywhere was in full bloom.

In the village there was a great selection of really good local restaurants just by the sea, the local shops and bakery had everything you need and more, for back at the villa. Everyone was very very friendly.

We did quite a bit of walking around the local villages, this was off the beaten track through olive groves where you could eat at the local Tavernas and buy best Virgin oil direct from the press.

Do not miss the walk through the Gorge and the cycling from the mountain tops, as per Richards brochure. These were stunning days out and not over tiring.

All in all the holiday was perfect in every way and we will return to the Villa Rental again very soon.

A Wonderful Villa In A Great Location

By Paul on 02-Apr-2012

As others have commented, the pictures and description do not do justice to the property. The interior is immaculate and equipped to a very high standard with a comfortable lounge, practical kitchen and three good-sized double bedrooms, two of which open on to the upstairs balcony. The small development on which it sits seems very quiet.

The external space is extensive with three main areas - the patio, the barbeque and the pool. Each has specacular views over the mountains and the sea. The infinity pool is a good size and maintains itself spotlessly - although it was a little cold for us, which is unsurprising given the time of year.

The owners were a pleasure to deal with and the very detailed instructions and guidance provided both for the Villa Rental and the area were very helpful.

Overall, we would have no hesitation in recommending this Villa Rental to anyone looking for high quality holiday accommodation. Kera beach is a 5-minute walk and is very quiet and private but there are many others a short drive or longer walk away. There are many restaurants from beach bars catering for casual dining to very high quality tavernas within easy striking distance e.g Vamos.

Fantastic Views And Great Location

By Tom on 26-Jul-2011

y family and I spent a week in this wonderful villa. The pictures on this site do not do complete justice to this property. It is beautiful. Arrival and departure were completely straightforward. The instructions provided by the owner were perfect and the attention to detail was spectacular. Very clean and the AC was a great bonus on the couple nights it became too hot. The outside patio, pool and BBQ are a great highlight. The two towns are right there with all amenities and fantastic restaurants. I would highly recommend this villa. The owners are very responsive and fantastic to deal with. I dearly miss the fantastic view of Souda Bay!

Picture Perfect Location

By The Hart Family on 24-May-2011

We've just returned from a week at the Aegean Blue Villa, and were really impressed with both the Villa Rental and the location. The views from the Villa Rental are truly amazing, I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere with such beautiful views. This was our first Villa Rental holiday, and I think anywhere we stay in the future has got a hard act to follow. There is so much outside living space at the villa, and the pool is a really good size and nice and warm. There is plenty of storage space in the bedrooms ( with lots of hangers!), the welcome grocery pack was very welcome as we didn't arrive until quite late in the evening. The DVD's provided were a nice touch too, quite a few recent releases which was a nice surprise. We didn't hire a car, and found the location fine, with shops and restaurants within a 10-15 minute walk. Almyrida and Kalyves are both lovely villages, not too touristy, and very pretty. There is a place in Kalyves where you can book excursions if you want to see a bit more of the island. We booked taxi transfers with the company recommended to us by the Villa Rental owners, and had no problems at all with them - our taxis ( we needed 2 as there were 5 of us) were waiting when we arrived, and turned up on time to take us home too.

Just Beautiful

By Lizzie on 13-Jul-2010

We had such a lovely holiday. The Villa Rental was spotless and the photos we had viewed beforehand, whilst lovely, could never have done the place justice. Sunset from the pool was breathtaking! The proximity to the local beach and to Almyrida cannot be over stated - just brilliant particularly for the teaanagers in our party. So thank you...the whole holiday was amazing from start to finish and all dealings with Richard were so helpful. The people who look after the Villa Rental locally were also very helpful and friendly. Altogether a wonderful holiday. Thank you

A Great Place To Stay!

By WDB - USA on 01-Oct-2009

My husband, daughter and I recently spent 2 weeks in early October at this property and were very pleased with the villa. It was very clean and well maintained. As we had all of our breakfasts and some dinners at the villa, we appreciated the well equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ and eating areas. The landscaping and gardens were wonderful and provided some privacy from the (little travelled) roadway and surrounding villas.
The location was great; close to the villages of Almyrida and Kalyves for provisions, tavernas etc yet provided more privacy than resort environment. This Villa Rental was also a great location for easy day trips to the western and southern Crete coasts.
The scene overlooking the clear blue water of Souda Bay was wonderful.
The information, local tips and directions provided in the literature were accurate, well laid out and easy to follow! We tried many of the recommended tavernas in several villages including Armeni, Plaka and Vamos and were not disappointed. Our car rental company (recommended by the Villa Rental owner) was reliable and easy to deal with.
Although Almyrida is within walking distance of the villa, a rental car is useful for exploring the region. The Cretan roads were well maintained with adequate signage.
The small sandy beach at Kera Bay is relatively secluded and is a grat place to spend some time. .
After visiting several of the populated resort areas in the Chania region, we agreed that the Aegean Blue Villa Rental is the best choice for those who are looking for a balance between exploring Crete and privacy at the poolside soaking up the Crete sunshine!

Our Idyllic Holiday At The Aegean Blue Villa

By Gary & Julie Schofield on 01-Sep-2009

This holiday was our second visit to the outstanding Aegean Blue Villa Rental in Crete. In September 2008, Gary and I spent our honeymoon at the villa. We had the most wonderful holiday and immediately decided to book for the following year. The description and photographs of the Villa Rental are spot on - in fact I would go as far as to say that the Villa Rental is even nicer in real life! The Villa Rental stands in an immaculately maintained landscaped garden and boasts its very own infinity pool. The outdoor kitchen and dining area is a superb addition - we ate our breakfast every morning on this terrace taking full advantage of the breathtaking views of the bay and the spectacular backdrop of the mountains. The Aegean Blue Villa Rental is beautifully furnished throughout - a lot of care and attention to detail has been paid to this property. The Villa Rental is in a lovely location, close to the small villages of Almyrida and Kalyves. We particularly enjoyed the beach bars and restaurants in Kalyves - a combination of traditional Greek with a contemporary twist! A trip to Chania is a must - it is only 20 minutes drive away and well worth it. Chania is a fantastic city with its Venetian harbour, waterside restaurants and quaint shops. We had the most wonderful honeymoon - a fantastic second trip - and will be definitely booking for 2010.

This is now our third stay at the Aegean Blue Villa Rental in the beautiful Greek seaside village of Almyrida in Crete. We can not recommend this location and Villa Rental enough and the owners and their representatives made our stay even more special by their kindness and attention to detail.
The Villa Rental and it's facilities are beautiful and the location was perfect and very central to all the main beaches, villages, restaurants and tavernas, which are all within walking distance. The views from the Villa Rental simply reduced us to tears of joy and we are always very sad to leave but always feel very privileged to return. Breakfast on our bedroom balcony or in the lovely outdoor dining area was the only way to start our perfect days. The views and sunsets are unbelievable and is one of the reasons why the Aegean Blue Villa Rental is so special and why we have returned again and again. There are many beautiful areas and restaurants to visit and the city of Chania and the old harbour town are a must. You can certainly tell that the Villa Rental is someones home and is looked after and maintained to a very high standard. We hope to come back to Crete again soon and we will definitely be booking the Aegean Blue Villa.
