The villa is clean, spacious and neutrally decorated, with lots of outdoor space. Nearby Fodele is a traditional working village and is a world away from the tourist resorts and cities that you could so easily end up in. If you want to experience true Crete, with its wonderful food, culture and people, this is the place you've been looking for!
Back on the rental market after a 3 year break, the villa is in a small development built on a hillside overlooking Fodele Bay and has excellent views of the sea and mountains. It is a 10 minute walk down the goat track (or 5 minute drive) to two beautiful sandy beaches (awarded blue flag status) where you can enjoy water activities and bike hire, as well as beach-side tavernas serving delicious, freshly cooked food at local prices. There are some lovely walks close by too and you may find that you don't venture far from Fodele at all. Why not have a look at the facebook page "Fodele Beach and Village" for more information and ideas?
The villa is built over 3 floors and has 3 bedrooms, a shower room, a bathroom, well-equipped kitchen/dining room and a comfortable lounge. It has 2 large outside terraces, perfect for eating al-fresco and a gated parking area and large paved garden. It is an easy 25 minute drive from Heraklion airport/port, or 1.5 hours from Chania, and is a good base for exploring all that Crete has to offer.
I think it is only fair and honest of me to point out a couple of things before you decide to book. (1) There are a few houses close by that are unfinished and look ugly, as does the road leading up to my villa. You have to drive passed the houses and they are visible from my villa, although they do not block the views of the sea or mountains. This is a result of the terrible financial situation that has engulfed Greece in the last few years and the same is seen across Crete. (2) The swimming pool is one depth only and is about 1.6m deep - please consider this if you have children or non-swimmers in your group.

10 Night stay in August.
By Lee G on 03-Sep-2014
Just come back from a ten night stay at this beautiful villa in breathtaking surroundings, from start to finish the whole experience was wonderful. We are a couple with 3 children and we really recommend this villa to stay , First of all Paul was very helpful with lots of good advice and guided us to he villa with no problem. The pool was wonderful in quiet , not overlooked, surroundings, the neighbour was helpful with directions and advise , a really lovely man who couldnt do enough to help you. There is lots to do in the area , beaches , coves, places of interest and lots of tavernas , the best in Fodele is smoothie georges, he is a great man who made you feel very welcome , the service and food is wonderful and im saying that as a chef for twenty years!!!, the children really loved his homemade ice cream and his fresh orange juice. my only complaint is the outside has a lot of weeds , but it is only a very small issue and the overall look of the villa made up for that. I would definetly recommend this villa for a great family holiday, thank you Ann-Marie for some great family memories.

Just returned from a month long stay at this villa about 4kms outside the little village of Fodele. The villa is lovely, very comfortable and furnished to a high standard everything you need to live well in this villa. There are four sunbeds and the pool is a good enough size and just lovely for a cooling dip The villa sleeps six people in its three good sized bedrooms with an inflatable bed for another two if required, we found the aircon very welcome during our stay. The villa is accessed via a steep unmade road and while it is perfectly possible to walk to the beach, it took us about 15mins, it is probably easier by car. There are two beaches one is scruffy but if you walk a bit further on the next beach is lovely with soft sand and a few tavernas, the Dolphin taverna is very good where we enjoyed some lovely evenings with good food. Fodele village is quite small but has a surprising number of tavernas. You will need to drive there as it's a bit too far to walk. It has several shops all selling the same tea towels, table runners and string bags!! But if you go to the top end of the village there is a lovely walk probably about 5 kms to an old abby, which is very small when you get there but the walk was very nice and peaceful Depending on the length of your vacation you will want to get out and about the villa has some very good guide books on Crete and is just off the main E75 the main road that runs along the north coast of Create. From this villa Chania is about 1 1/2- 2 hr drive and is well worth a visit. We would recommend this villa to anyone who wishes to have a week or two just reading and relaxing by the pool, the neighbours either side are lovely and are so helpful with advice and local knowledge. There is a DVD player available so make sure you bring some DVD's along if you wish to watch something on tv as there is no sat tv or internet There are some packs of cards at the villa but maybe good to take some games if you like that sort of thing for the evening. All in all a very pleasant and relaxing holiday.
A really lovely time.

We're a French family of five and we stayed for a week at Anne-Marie's villa. We had a lovely time there. The view is breathtaking and the villa was everything we hoped it would be. It was clean, tidy, quiet, comfortable and well-equipped. Our children (aged 11, 9 and 6) loved the pool. They spent hours in it, especially as the sea was quite rough that week due to the wind. I had packed a few inflatable toys but there were some already at the villa. They really had great fun. Anne-Marie was really helpful and provided us with lots of information about the villa and its area. We arrived late at night so we rang Paul and arranged a meeting point off the national road. He showed us the way to the villa and gave us a tour. We had arranged a start-up pack of food, which he had bought for us and that was much appreciated. We once had a problem with the water- no tap water running at all- but Paul fixed it within the hour. There were a few mosquitoes but not many. I had packed some repellent but we didn't use any. We loved the Dolphin taverna down by the beach. The food is good and Nikos, the cook and the owner, is very friendly. We loved the near-by village Fodele. We tried 3 tavernas and Domenico's was the one we liked best. We recommend the food (gyros...). His goat's milk ice cream is really good. To put it in a nutshell, we really had a great time at Anne-Marie's villa.
We liked it.

We were a family with 2 kids and with grandma/grandpa, so 6 people altogether. We liked the villa, the pool and the view. Everything is pretty new, clean and in good shape. We didn't find it on google satellite, but the satellite pictures are a couple of years old, so they are older then the actual villa. When you arrive (you will need a car), Paul - english speaking - will meet you at an easy to find spot and guide you to the house which is a little hard to find the first time. But don't worry they were all very helpful from the beginning. The owner is helpful, too, she sent us much infos in advance via email. We booked on very short notice, but since we very lucky and is was available that was not a problem. Overall we liked it very much and can recommend it! It has lots of items you would need, like kitchenware, fans, some books, a CD-player and more. There is no TV but we did not miss it at all. The location is good, too. Because you can easily explore Heraklion, Rethymno (a visit worth!!) and even Chania in convenient day trips. We even made trips to the south (Matala) which is not too far. Good deal.
2 Hot weeks in Crete.
By Fiona B on 04-Sep-2012
We have just returned from two lovely weeks in Anne-Marie's villa in Fodele. The villa is spacious, well equipped and has fantastic views. The next door neighbour is extremely kind and helpful. We managed to do quite a bit of exploring but it was rather hot so go out early to avoid the heat and the crowds at the main attractions like Knossos. I have to say that the main criticism of the villa is the lack of air conditioning, it made it particularly difficult to sleep at night especially in the ground floor room and as it was too hot to close the windows it meant that we struggled with the mosquitos even with the fly screens and were badly bitten on a regular basis despite the screens, machines, coils, sprays and repellents! The locals are fantastic, don't miss going to the Dolphin bar on the beach and say hello to Nikos for us, Katrin Taverna was also good and we were taxied home by the owner when he found out that we were walking! Fodele village is lovely, we particularly liked the springs at Argyroupoli , Lake Kournas and Georgioupoli are especially picturesque, and Water City was a great hit with the girls.Book on line and print your voucher before you go and you save 15%, we didn't know this until we got there and it is 25 Euros to get in and goes on height not age of the kids. Would love to go back to Crete and see more of the island. Thank you for a fantastic holiday. The Bailey Family.
Fantastic sea and mountain views.
By Lesley S on 07-Sep-2011
Spend a very good week here soaking up the sun and enjoying the sea and mountain views. Villa is comfortable, well equiped and maintained and spotlessly clean. The grounds were bigger than expected with plenty of space around the pool and a generous selection of outside furniture. Especially enjoyed the hammock. Paul the local agent was very helpful. Local beach, tavernas and village within easy reach. Well located for vising Knossos and other archaelogical sites which are within easy driving distance - although our daughters preferred the day spent at Water City! All in all a great holiday - THANKS
Must stay place.

everything the two other reviews say are all true. it was a great villa with everything you could possible want and more to be honest. booking the villa is a hussle free experience and the couple who look after the villa in crete were wonderful they treat it like their own with anything you need a hand with is never a problem.
the villa is spotless and i mean spotless its all brand new was very impressed with it.
so as you have read we loved the villa and loved the holiday you would be making the right choice in booking this villa as you wont be disappointed trust me i looked at many villas on line.
oh one last note when you go make sure you go into the village to "smoothie georges" restaunt, his food is great and his such a great charactor well worth a visit tell him catalina and paul sent you. happy holidays
Perfect villa for a quiet holiday in a lovely area.
By Lee on 04-Jul-2010
From first contact through departure, this was an outstanding holiday. Anne-Marie made sure everything was arranged perfectly and things went exactly as hoped.
We travelled as a family of 2 adults and 2 children (aged 3 and 5). Although the deep pool and steep stairs in the villa might not seem ideal for small children, with a little supervision we had no problems over a 10 day break and the kids loved every second! Speaking of which - the large pool was excellent and spacious garden was a real pleasure to spend time in.
The villa was superbly equipped and located close to the local village and beach. You could easily spend a week without going more than a few miles from the house. A hire car is necessary to get to/from the villa and also allow exploration of the island, and there are many great beaches and coves to discover within an hour or so from Fodele.
My family and I have no problem in recommending the villa to families, couples or groups looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday within easy reach of Crete's various sights and attractions.
Stylish villa, lovely views, we'll be back!
By BillyJoe on 07-Feb-2009
We spent two weeks here and loved it! The house is stylish, clean and well-equipped. The views are stunning and has advantage of having two lovely sun terraces to take in the stunning scenery.
There is a pathway from the villa leading down to the beach where there are some little tavernas on the edge of the sea. The beach was clean and our 3 year old loved splashing in the sea among the rock pools.
Fodele village is a short drive away and has good restaurants and very friendly locals.
A car is essential if you want to explore further or sample the resorts along the coast. All have sandy beaches and lots of restaurants and shops. Along with sun shades and sun beds.
Crete is a beautiful island and this is great place to explore the island.
