Dar Tal Patri - by Jules
"There’s no shortage of appealing self-catering farmhouses on Gozo and Tal Patri (its name means ‘priest’) is right up there together with its sister farmhouse (next door’s Tas Soru which means ‘nun’).
Both are thoughtful spacious conversions with bags of cool space indoors and private walled pool terraces outside perfect for making the most of the summer sun.
Everything here feels authentic from the mighty sandstone blocks and arches to the green painted entrance door the traditional tiles and the antique furnishings. There’s even an original carpenter’s bench with vice in the reception area. Ghammar isn’t a bustling metropolis (but then nowhere on Gozo really is) but if your idea of the perfect Gozo getaway is peaceful seclusion that’s close enough to be anywhere on the island by car in just a few minutes this could be ideal." - Jules
That green painted door set in the otherwise blank external wall is just classic Gozo. And like so many traditional Gozo farmhouses it gives no clue as to what lies beyond. In Tal Patri’s case it opens onto a pretty tiled path to the internal front door.
Once inside the main farmhouse you’ll find a charming stone entrance with archways separating kitchen and dining area from the living area with its chairs sofa and TV.
Doors from both areas lead out to the terrace.
The welcoming pool is flanked by a terrace including a stone barbeque. Bedroom 1 is off this path a pretty cosy room with two single beds and shower room en-suite.
A stone staircase leads from the entrance of Tal-Petri to the first floor where you’ll find a further two bedrooms.
Bedroom 2 has two single beds an en-suite shower room and a balcony overlooking the pool.
Bedroom 3 is a spacious double room with an en-suite shower.
LOCATION: Ghammar Ghasri
Ghammar (pronounced “ammer”) is a cluster of Gozo farmhouses that lie between Zebbug and Ghasri on the north-west side of the island.
In Ghasri Gurden Hill with the imposing Gurden Lighthouse at its crest offers walkers a steep challenge and glorious views as a reward.
Wied L Ghasri valley is a lovely walk from Ghammar itself and it’s an ideal spot for country walks and cycling particularly in spring and winter.
The valley leads to the sea and a secluded inlet nestled between high cliffs that are popular for swimming snorkelling and diving.
Tal Patri is a short drive from a number of beaches with Dwerja Bay. Lively Marsalforn Bay is a short drive to the north with its restaurants and bars fringing the turquoise Mediterranean. The largest sandy beach on Gozo Ramla Bay is a little further east.
The closest supermarket is 800 metres and shops in Victoria, 2.5 KM. You will find a number of bars and restaurants in 1 KM
