This was our second visit to this villa as we loved our time there the first time and weren't disappointed! The villa is charming and immaculately maintained, along with the pool and lovely garden. There are so many lovely places to visit nearby! We plan to return again.

Perfect in every way

By Ady K on 27-Jul-2019

Stayed Jul 2019

From first booking to final departure, Jania was the perfect host. Nothing was too much trouble, and she remained available throughout our stay to give advice on the local area if needed, including “insider” tips on local beaches, and the best way for us to make the trip to Barcelona for a day. Communication was excellent throughout.
The villa is simply perfect. Spotlessly clean, well appointed, and with everything provided to make our stay there relaxing and trouble free. The views from the terrace and pool area across to the Med are stunning - I can honestly say the pictures perhaps don’t do this wonderful property justice.
The outside space is perfect to enjoy lazy days and evenings, and the inside clean, spacious and comfortable. We are very particular about where we spend our holidays and could not find any fault anywhere.
With regard to location, the villa is five minutes’ drive from a good range of local supermarkets, and only ten from the lovely seaside resort of Llafranc with its pretty promenade and fine range of restaurants where you can enjoy al fresco dining.
There is so much to see and do here that two weeks are not enough. Our favourites included;
Begur - a lovely hilltop town.
Pals and Peratallada - medieval villages where you can enjoy exploring the cobbled streets, shops and restaurants.
Beaches - too many to mention, but Castell and Aiguablava were two favourites. Be sure to arrive early as most beaches get busy and parking near some of the coves appears quite limited.
The water park at Platja d’Aro - Aquadiver - a great place to have some family fun.
Girona - a lovely town about 45 minutes by car. Again, lots of shops, bars, restaurants and places to explore.
As a family we try to visit different places on holiday, only returning to old haunts if they tick all the boxes. The Costa Brava in general, and Ca La Mercè in particular, are both firmly on our list of places to return to.
Thank you, Jania, for a memorable holiday.

Fantastic family trip, exceeded expectations!

A fabulous stay! Everything we could possibly need as a family was available in the villa (check out the listing/ booking info as it's VERY accurate). Jania has thought of everything you would need. Good location for supermarkets too, 5 min drive. We went to the beach at Callella which was beautiful but, to be honest, the pool was too tempting to leave and garden very beautiful we only went out 2 days. Very peaceful area. Jania close by but left us to it. Communications before, during and for check out were brilliant and all very clear and helpful. Would highly recommend.

This villa is beautiful, spacious, very well-equipped with amazing views over wooded hills to the coast, just visible in the dip of the hills. Jania is a perfect hostess in every way, especially in the generous provisions there on arrival and her desire to make the holiday the best it can be. There are some lovely places to visit and we look forward to returning to this beautiful area of Spain.

First Rate

We loved it.
We spent two weeks across the end of September and beginning of October. Our time was evenly divided with days in just lounging outside with a book and a cold beer/wine or venturing out on day trips to see and experience some of the many wonderful places in the surrounding area.
The villa is spacious, beautifully decorated with a well stocked kitchen. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well furnished. The outside area has multiple options for relaxing whether poolside, the covered patio or the large terrace. The garden and pool are well tended and regularly maintained.
Jania is an excellent hostess who manages the property brilliantly. She is always happy to provide advice and guidance on all things local. Although she lives in the adjacent property, she is discreet and unobtrusive.
Ca La Merce is very close to the rugged wild coast of Spain's Costa Brava which is dotted with pretty little beach resorts. Inland and along the cost, there are plenty of attractions, towns and villages well worth a visit within relatively easy reach. The wonderful gardens at Cap Roig are very close and we loved wandering about Girona's old quarter.
Eating and drinking - there is just so much choice. If feeding yourself, fresh fruit and vegetables are plentiful and available from the daily market in nearby Palfrugell as well as the various supermarkets. Jania's uncle sometimes provides tasty peppers, tomatoes, courgettes, onions, beans and aubergines from his allotment. If eating out, there is a huge number and choice of options whether tapas or amazing variety of seafood. The wines of the local Emporda region are a hidden gem and of course Catalunya is well known for Cava.
When arriving at a holiday rental property the hope is always that the property description on the rental site reasonably matches the reality. Alison and I have rented numerous holiday properties across France and Italy. Ca La Merce did not disappoint in any way.

Fantastic villa

By David S on 28-Sep-2018

Stayed Sep 2018

The first time we have stayed in this property but are seasoned travellers with HomeAway and can safely say that Cala Merce in Mont Ras is our favourite and we shall definately be staying there again.
Jania was the perfect hoast and went the extra mile making our stay at her beautiful property absolutely sublime. On arrival we were greeted with a comprehensive f ood hamper containing everything and more to get us started. That's not all, she also kept us supplied with fresh vegetables from her Uncle's garden during our stay.
The property, grounds and swimming pool were exceptional and we spent many a day there enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
The locality has so much to offer. Beautiful beaches really close by and ancient, interesting historical towns to explore.
We would recommend this property with every confidence and are sure others will enjoy it as much as we have. It is a pity we can only give a score of 5 stars because it deserves more.
Thank you Jania for making our holiday so perfect.

Nestled on a hillside above Mont Ras amongst a secluded private estate, the villa is truly a home from home. With everything provided from high speed WIFI to a fly swat, the owner has thought of every creature comfort whilst at the same time maintaining the property’s authentic Catalan character. Jania’s hospitality and discretion as a host only added to a very enjoyable and memorable holiday. As seasoned Spanish travelers we would definitely recommend staying at Ce La Merce to anyone looking for a unique experience in a beautiful part of Spain.

Delightful villa in attractive setting

By T & S W on 29-Jul-2018

Stayed Jun 2018

We were extremely sad to leave this characterful villa after such an enjoyable and comfortable stay - and, after almost 20 years of holiday rentals, we all thought that the villa was one of the very best. It is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and has everything you could possibly want; it was also an extremely comfortable and spacious property to enjoy, both inside and out, with a wonderful cooling breeze from the coast. We all decided that Jania was definitely the best property owner - unobtrusive, but extremely helpful and rapid to respond to any question - and very interesting and charming! Her attention to detail is demonstrated in every aspect of the villa. We were only sorry that the week went so quickly because there were many interesting places to visit from there but we enjoyed the villa so much that we were reluctant to leave what felt like home. We hope to return one day.

Absolutely perfect. Everything was beautifully maintained and the pool was a welcome addition for a family with very young kids. It was big enough to swim and small enough that it felt very safe with the children. There were many thoughtful touches and the welcome pack too was very thoughtful. We will definitely be trying to return.

From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. The villa's setting is outstanding - the garden, the terrace and views. The villa is so well equipped and comfortable. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding area, visiting many beaches. Llafranc was our favourite beach and spent many mornings there, returning to the villa and pool in the afternoon. Jania is a fantastic host and her 'house book' with all local information was brilliant. We would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful month's vacation staying at Ca La Merce. The Villa is perfect private accommodation providing everything one needs. The hours, Saline Pool and lovely gardens are impeccably maintained. Breakfast on the Terrace every morning listening to the many birds was a joy. Jania is a great host who ensures you have everything you need to have a great stay. She also made plenty of suggestions to explore the area, like the local Vineyard experience at Brugarol and the local Festia which we all thoroughly enjoyed. There are many excellent restaurants within easy reach for example Far Nomo at San Sebastian and Pa i Raim in Palafrugell and for Tapas Calau in Calella di Palafrugell. It was so good we intend to return next year.

Perfect for a peaceful and relaxing break

By Rachel G on 09-Jul-2017

I had a great week at Jania's villa with my partner and young son and wished we could have stayed longer. The villa is very comfortable, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated and furnished with character. The kitchen is very well equipped, the wifi is good, English TV channels are available and the place would accommodate 6 people very comfortably. The garden is lovely - very secluded with plenty of sun and shade and a covered barbecue area where we ate every day. The villa is easy to find by car and it's in a great location for exploring the beaches and towns along the coast. We absolutely loved the pool, which is only 45cm deep at the shallow end, so perfect for younger kids. Jania is the perfect host - very kind and helpful and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you Jania!

We very much enjoyed our holiday at this villa and have already planned another visit. This well equiped property is clean and tidy and a great deal of care has been taken by the owner to ensure a perfect holiday. There is plenty of outdoor space with secure parking area, and within easy reach by car to C-31 main road but far enough away in a sunny, secluded and peaceful location. Highly recommended.

This villa was perfect for us. It was well-equipped and very clean with lots of character, and the outside areas were well thought out with a lovely sunbathing area by the pool, a barbecue and dining area shaded from the sun and beautiful grounds overall. It is close to several beautiful beaches and interesting villages, and the owner has provided a house book full of useful and interesting information, including even a few tapas recipes! There is also Wi-Fi and access to UK TV. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the children really loved the pool. The owner is a lovely lady who has gone the extra mile to make this the perfect holiday home for her guests - thank you Jania for a wonderful stay. We hope to be back some day!

We love this area of Spain and were delighted with the villa we booked this year. Perfect location for getting to the beautiful local coves and beaches but away from the busy areas. The villa was immaculately clean and tidy and very homely with lots of character, so much space outside to sit in the shade or lie on the sunbeds around the pool for a bit of sun worshipping, all very private. Jania, the owner, was lovely and very helpful and always on call if we needed anything. We have no hesitation in recommending this villa and we would love to go back to stay in the future.

Perfect house in a beautiful part of Spain

We love this house and garden. The house is tastefully decorated and furnished, and also provides a practical environment in which one feels instantly at home. Along with the garden and pool it provides all you need for a relaxing summer holiday venue. Jania, the owner, has provided a property of a very high standard. Even the little things, like the welcome pack of supplies, and the house documentation, are first-class. And Jania is on hand to give further advice on the locality if you need it.
Beaches are a short drive, or cycle ride, away. The house is well situated for lots of possible excursions and activities. Llafranc provides a busy town beach with plenty of opportunities for snorkelling etc; Calella de Palafrugell offers several beaches to choose from and is full of interest. Castell beach is out of town and totally unspoiled (the pop-up restaurants are surprisingly good.) The gardens at Cap Roig are splendid and inexpensive to visit. Further afield you can see the old towns of Pals, Begur and Besalú, or visit the memorable Salvador Dali museum in Figueres. The old centre of Girona city is also worth seeing.
Our family has stayed in this property four times and we are booking again. Even on our fourth visit we were finding lovely places in the area we had not seen before.

Wonderful villa in peaceful setting

By Rose C on 08-Jul-2016

Stayed May 2016

We were very pleased with our choice of villa, it was spotlessly clean and we loved the décor and furnishings! The garden was lovely,it was very private and although Jania, the owner, lives on site we were never aware of her presence. She was very helpful, providing blankets when we had a cold spell at the beginning of our holiday, and buying another umbrella for use on the terrace. We were impressed with the generous welcome pack which had sufficient for a simple meal on our first night and for the next morning's breakfast (and we appreciated the free range eggs!).
The botanic gardens (Cap Roig) are worth a visit and so is Figueres to explore the Dali museum. The nearby beaches must be the best on the Costa Brava, beautiful clear water, sheltered coves and scenic coastal paths.
I would wholeheartedly recommend a holiday here. Thank you Jania, it was a pleasure to meet you! I hope we can return some day :))

5 star accommodation

Our second visit to Ca La Mercè was as memorable as our first. My parents came along with us this time and fell in love with the place. Jania is a lovely person and couldn't be more helpful.
The villa is extremely well equipped with everything you need as a family. It is immaculate and furnished to a high standard, with 2 bathrooms it was perfect for our family and my parents to have our separate space. There is also excellent wifi so you can relax around the pool with your iPad, there is also extensive Sky TV although we spent most of our time outside.
What really sets it apart is the pool and outside space. There are several terrace area's and a perfect shaded outside dining area with gas barbecue. Our children lived in the pool which is totally private along with the stunning garden.
The surrounding area is stunning which attracted us to the Villa in the first place after reading an article in The Sunday Telegraph. We always thought The Costa Brava was over commercialised and very English, this couldn't be further from the truth, there are a host of beautiful beaches within 15 minutes drive and some lovely restaurants, our favourite being a little tapas bar in Callela.
We can highly recommend the Villa and area and have pencilled some dates in already for next year.

Great villa in a lovely settting

By Anna J on 16-May-2016

Stayed Apr 2016

Just back from a great week at the villa. It is always hard to know what to expect when you have only seen photos but we both agreed that it was better in real life.
The location of the villa was really well placed to explore the area. We spent afternoons enjoying long lunches at Sa Tuna, Begur, Llafranc and Tamariu and evenings back at the villa cooking the beautiful produce we'd bought at the huge market in Palafrugell on Sunday morning. One day, we hired bikes and cycled to Palamos along le Petit Train and bought some amazing prawns as seen on 'Rick Stein's Spain' at the lively fish market.
The villa itself was the perfect base. It was spacious but also homely. The patio and garden wraps around two sides of the villa meaning that every hour of the sun could be enjoyed. It was an incredibly peaceful spot and on the horizon, you could see the sea. The kitchen was really well equipped, the wifi was reliable and the tv had all the uk channels. The welcome basket Jania had left in the villa for arrival was generous and handy until we could get to the supermarkets in Palafrugell which were full of choice. We used Carrefour which was about two miles towards the town, sold a great variety of produce, wine etc and was open on the Sunday and on the public holiday that took place whilst we were there.
I had read on a previous review that the house manager Jania lived underneath the villa and was not sure how that would work. In reality, it's a great set up. It wasn't intrusive, the sound didn't seem to travel and the villa's elevated position meant it was not overlooked at all. Saying that though, it was lovely to know that Jania was nearby if needed. She provided the great information before we even arrived and then gave great local knowledge when we asked.
I have already recommended the villa to others and would love to return in the future - thanks so much Jania!

We have just returned from a week in this lovely part iof Spain. Two adults with three children aged 8, 9 and 17. The hardest part for us, was to get to see the beautiful coves and villages close by, as our two youngest girls did not want to leave the comforts of this villa with the private pool and garden. If you want peace and a totally relaxing place to stay, well don't look any further. This villa is very private and has everything you could possibly need. The owner Jania is lovel, and is close by to assist you if you need help with anything but totally respects your privacy. The sound of nature around was so relaxing and never interrupted by road noise or any other undesirable noises. There are lots of places close by that are worth a visit so for us it definitely ticked all our boxes in terms of location, comfort and privacy.

Although the photos look great, they really don't do this place justice. The pool, gardens and views are all amazing. Everything you could possibly need inside and decorated to a very high standard. We all loved the artwork both inside and around the gardens.
Jania is a perfect host even getting some supplies for the start of our holiday and always available for any questions about the area.
We would all love to return to Mont Ras and stay here.
