Situated on a beautiful peninsula the Blue Jasmine Resort offers guests absolutely stunning sea views of Southern Kefalonia from virtually every angle, barely a five-minute walk from the wide, sandy beaches and a short drive to the bustley little resort of Skala. Intimate and relaxed, Blue Jasmine is very much a family concern, run with heartfelt hospitality and a professionalism that comes from years of experience.
Daily maid service is included as is a fantastic breakfast. The resort has an on resort bar and cafe serving snack's salads and sandwiches.
This experience also shows in the hotel’s design; with just 12 guest suites in beautiful landscaped gardens and a larger-than-average pool, Plenty of room for all to find their own favourite place to unwind in peace. The elevated position and endless sea views add to the sense of space and privacy, yet all the facilities you could want are close at hand, with a small sandy cove and a couple of tavernas within walking distance. In fact, you could choose not to get into the car at all, but if you feel like getting to know Kefalonia better, the entire island is accessible from here, including the picture-perfect harbour at Fiskardo, enchanting Assos village and numerous remains from pre-historic, Roman and Venetian times.

Blue Jasmine proved to be a delightful, peaceful and restful hotel, in a well-appointed location with a 180 degree view of the sea. The gardens and general state of finishes are well-maintained and attractive. In this setting, Marion, Lana the hotel manager, Valentin the barman and Cristos the grounds/handyman weave their individual and special magic.
Our suite (No 15, ‘Melisanni Lake’) faced onto the coast and from our very comfortable bed we could open the French doors to our bedroom and watch the sunrise.
Skala, five minute drive or 30 minute walk to the South away, was the most ‘touristy’, with numerous bars, tavernas and shops (hats, postcards and fridge magnets much in evidence) and a couple of supermarkets (AB particularly good). Heading North in the car for 15 minutes got us to Poros and it’s somewhat faded/seen better times demeanour. Beyond that Sami had more going for it with its buzzing port, yachts, bars, shops, tavernas displaying greater confidence and elan.
We particularly enjoyed the drive to Fiscardo; stylish, Venetian and apparently ‘trendy’. The two and a quarter hours drive along the island’s Western coast road, via a short visit to delightful Assos for a coffee, afforded some jaw-dropping views and drops from vertiginous cliff-hugging roads. Marion’s recommended route back through the mountains, along possibly the best road on the island was stunning. At its peak, we stopped and got out of the car and in the dead still of the scorching heat listened to the virtual silence, the giant and gentle buzzing of a bee 100m away being the only sound.
We hired a motorboat from Boulevard Boats in Aghia Efimia and received the most comprehensive, thoughtful briefing on all aspects of its handling and mooring. For the whole day, we explored the coves, caves, beaches and rocks of the Eastern coast to the South of Fiscardo fish farm. As none had tavernas for lunch, we bought baguettes, pizza slices and coffees from the Arte bakery on the harbour front, before setting off.
We enjoyed meals at the following tavernas; Sunrise, facing the beach on the dead-end coast road South of Skala, Kelarvi, high in the hills of Old Skala with consequent amazing panoramic views of the coast, Old Times, a short walk from Blue Jasmine, Dionysus, on the beach in Poros and best of all at Denis’ at Trapezaki beach.
Given that our stay was the end of September 2018 I am embarrassed to be writing the review now, in January 2019! However, just thinking back to our week at the Blue Jasmine evokes so many happy memories that I felt I must make amends now. The hotel description lived up to all expectations and even surpassed them in many ways. We booked Apt 16 Atros Mist. It was perfect for us with a bedroom (very comfortable bed) living area/kitchenette, shower room and very spacious balcony overlooking the pool, gardens and sea. It was kept spotlessly clean. I loved the fact there were only 12 apartments and because people were doing things at different times of the day the pool area was never crowded. The other guests were easy company but you never felt as though you had to socialise and there were plenty of opportunities to be alone with your book or your thoughts whenever you wished. Breakfast was provided on the terrace and it was wonderful. Lana (brilliant sense of humour!) and her team did a wonderful job, not just at breakfast but throughout the day. Nothing was too much trouble. Other reviewers have mentioned the legendary moussaka made by Lana's mother in law which was ready for us on our first evening. It was delicious and so nice not to have to go searching for a restaurant on arrival.
All the staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. Special mention must go to Marion, the concierge, who went over and above the call of duty to make sure everyone was happy. Her goodbye gifts of homemade Cornish pasties were fabulous. What an unexpected treat to have as you face the horror of packing to return home! We made use of our small hire car and visited different parts of the island. We even swam in the sea! What made the holiday special for me was the high quality of accommodation and the highly efficient organisation of Simpson Travel. It was the most stress-free holiday I have had in years.
