LA VILLETTA is an old two-storey building which may be used as a single house, but is more often used as two separate, fully self-contained apartments, one on each floor, with separate entrances (when used as a single house a door at the foot of the stairs may be unlocked). As they are more or less identical, this advertisement applies to both/either of the apartments, and the calendar only shows when both apartments are booked - on all other dates one of them is available. Prices are for one apartment, for both double the fee and deduct 10%. We are happy to negotiate special prices for longer bookings. Our website (see above) gives lots of detailed information about La Villetta and the surrounding area; also about the neighbouring cottage that we own, called La Capanna (sleeps 6).

ACCOMMODATION: Each apartment sleeps three people comfortably and there is room for a fourth. Each contains three rooms:

1) A living/dining room, with kitchen area. It includes a table, dining chairs, comfortable basket chairs, a double sofa-bed (upstairs one very comfortable, downstairs one less so, but good for children) and a book case. In each of the kitchen areas there is a cooker, a refrigerator a sink with hot and cold water and plenty of cooking and eating utensils, etc.

2) A large bedroom with a double bed, a folding single bed, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and bedside cabinets.

3) A bathroom fully equipped with hot water, showers, hand basins and WCs (also a bidet in the upstairs bathroom).

Both apartments have air-conditioning and central heating.

THE LARGE GARDEN, has superb views up into the tree-clad mountains. There are shrubs, lawns, herbs for cooking, pergolas, tables for outdoor eating and a BBQ. There are and lots of quiet corners, chairs and sun loungers, and much of the garden is not directly overlooked by any other houses. The downstairs apartment opens directly onto the garden, and residents of the upstairs apartment only have to walk a few steps round the house to access the garden via a little path.

THE LOCATION is ideal for people who want a base from which to explore the beautiful region of Tuscany. It is about 35 kilometres south-east of Florence, at the foot of the Pratomagno mountains, not far from the Chianti area of central Tuscany. It is in a hamlet called I Tallini, close to the village of Cascia and about 2 kilometres from the country town of Reggello. The A1 motorway and the Rome-Florence railway are only 8 kilometres away, giving easy access to the great cities of Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Pisa, Lucca and Perugia. Numerous smaller towns and places of interest, such as San Gimignano, and several famous beauty spots, are easily accessible.

SHOPPING: The village of Cascia has plenty of shops, including a modern supermarket, a chemist, a bank, two restaurants and four bars! Reggello has shops for more specialised requirements, a travel agent, good restaurants, and a market on Saturdays. Excellent wines can be bought either from shops or directly from local producers. The local olive oil is often regarded as the finest in the world (really!!). Nearby Figline Valdarno offers even more extensive shopping facilities, and for people interested in finding a real bargain in the world of "haute couture" the nearby shopping centre, 'The Mall', is home to factory outlets of Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and other top designer labels.

RESTAURANTS: Within a few kilometres there are at least six really good restaurants, and numerous others only a little further afield, ranging from the simple but delicious, to more sophisticated and expensive. There are also several local bars, some of which also serve light meals.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT is good, with both buses and trains (local and mainline) in easy reach. This makes it easy and quick to get to Florence, Arezzo and many other interesting places that are further away such as Perugia or even Rome.

INTERNET access is available via a 4G connection. This can be rather slow and unreliable, but we find it adequate for emails and simple browsing.

SWIMMING POOLS: We do not have our own pool, but there is a beautiful, large open-air pool with lawns and sun-loungers only 1 km away in the village of Cascia, and another about 2.5 km from the house, in the village of Vaggio, which is ideal for visitors with small children.

WALKING: The area is a walker's paradise, as the surrounding mountains are full of amazingly beautiful and easily accessible walks. There are also less
several strenuous walks close to the house
CYCLING: We have two mountain bikes for the use of guests. there are also some helmets, pumps etc.

LOCAL SPORTS FACILITIES include horse riding, tennis and fishing.

There is a Tourist Information Office in Reggello, open in summer months.

Charming rural cottage away from the busy world

By Ian S. on 22-Jul-2018

La Villetta is a charming rustic cottage in the middle of the Italian countryside. After not following the owners directions we foolishly followed Google Maps to the wrong place. Don't do it follow Gwyn's advice!

The gardens are lovely with lots of nooks and corners to hide from the heat and relish the sun. The variety of creatures in the garden is amazing from bees to lizards and butterflies to birds - endless delight. The cottage is rustic so don't expect mod-cons but everything you need is there (other than a coffee maker) and La Villetta was superbly cool even in 34°C we used the air-con on the first day to freshen the rooms then didn't touch it again. Perfect ancient cooling technology working perfectly!! We relaxed completely in our stay it was easy!! A quick shout-out to the vegan/vegetarian restaurant Serendipity in Cascia - superb food in a quirky setting!!

Peaceful and lovely location

By Linda G. on 09-Jul-2017

We stayed in the downstairs apartment of La Villetta which was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our week's holiday. The garden is beautiful with lots of seating areas to enjoy the great views of the Tuscany hills. The nearby villages had nice restaurants and a convenient supermarket. The villa is centrally located and we hired a car to see lots of wonderful places. Gwyn and Claudia's instructions and information guides were excellent as was their customer service. We had a great Tuscan holiday!

Heaven on earth

By David J. on 08-May-2017

We have stayed in the downstairs apartment here eight times over the last 20 years. This rural cottage is the most relaxing place on earth. Very comfortable inside, with aircon and spacious bedroom and living room, and an extensive garden with magnificent views of the Prato Magno hills. Everything is spotlessly clean. You can roast indoors or BBQ in the garden, the kitchen is fully equipped. The local villages Reggello and Cascia are within walking distance for all provisions, or there are excellent trattorie and pizzarie. Some of Italy's finest olive oil is produced here, not to mention the local chianti. It's a wonderful place to base yourself if you want peace and quiet. Although it is less than 20 miles from Florence, yet it is in the heart of the Tuscany that few tourists ever visit or see. We thoroughly recommend it.

Wonderful time in a wonderful place

By Richard W. London on 15-Apr-2017

We, and some friends, rented both houses, La Capanna and La Villetta, and both of them were well equipped, clean and suited us perfectly. We basked in the early autumn sun in the beautiful gardens, looking up into the amazing view of the Pratomagno Mountains; we visited Florence, Siena, Arezzo and no end of gorgeous little villages in the area near Reggello. We also ate and drank (a bit too much!) in five or six of the local restaurants. In short we couldn't have asked for more!!

Charming, cozy and great value for money!

By Cecilia T. on 09-Apr-2017

I've stayed here a couple of times (in both summer and winter) and really love this place. The house is simply but well equipped and very welcoming. The garden is lovely and the views are wonderful. Although it's situated in a quiet little hamlet, there is easy access (very nice walks!) to the local village and nearby town and just a 30-minute drive to Florence. I hope to return again soon.

An idyllic paradise in the Tuscan countryside

By Alexander L. on 31-Mar-2017

After a long journey from London to Pisa, then from Pisa to the heart of Tuscany, my friends and I were relieved and delighted to arrive at La Villetta: a cottage as comfortable, well-equipped and beautifully decorated as we could have hoped. We unpacked our suitcases and made our selves at home before heading out into the garden, where we were astonished by the stunning views of the picturesque Tuscan hills. We spent many nights lounging out here with a bottle of Tuscan wine (or three) watching the sun set and the fireflies come to life. Alongside the beautiful flowers, trees and bushes, there are many fragrant herbs and fruits growing, which I highly recommend taking advantage of should you choose to cook your own meals (we made a delicious apricot crumble using the apricots from the tree in the garden).

La Villetta is the ideal abode from which to venture out and explore Tuscany and beyond. The nearest town, Reggello, is a 15-20 minute walk away though the winding country roads; there you will find several small shops selling locally produced meat, cheese, wine, fruits, vegetables and some of the world's finest olive oil. My friends and I spent several lazy afternoons on the terrace of Bar di Foffa opposite the church in the town square. We also took a dip at the Lido and went to an outdoor concert of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. I'm not usually one for ice cream, but the gelato from Reggello's gelatoria is so good I had at least one every day. The pizzeria's are excellent - be sure to visit Stagnino's and order their truffle pizza.

Our one concern was that we did not have our own car, therefore we had to rely on public transport. This proved not to be a problem, and we visited Florence (three times), Rome, Siena, Arezzo, Pisa and many other towns. Should you have a car, you will be fortunate enough to easily travel to all the famous vineyards, monasteries and churches in the most remote locations.

The owners, Gwyn and Claudia, gave excellent customer service when we made the booking. Beyond that, we never needed to contact them as all written information provided in the cottage regarding facilities, utilities, wifi, laundry, air conditioning etc. was very clear and thorough.

Whether travelling with friends, as a couple or with family, I recommend La Villetta very highly. You will forge many happy memories of this extraordinary place.

Will be comming back!

By Tohan Aalborg, Nordjylland, Denmark on 12-Sep-2013

We really enjoyed our stay. Two adults, and our 4 (turned 5 right after we came home) year old daughter - and there was something for us all. The small market in Reggello, Reggello by itself, food, wine, the small Pizza takeout in Reggello... I could go on and on, and I've only mentioned Reggello. Had a really nice trip to Cortona, and it's a town really worth visiting. I think I'm going to stop now, before I get started on the other things we did and visited. Though, do remeber to use some mosquito reppelent - those Tuscan mosquitos might be small, but they sure are aggressive. My girlfriend and I both agree that we will be comming back.

Tranquil apartment in beautiful setting

By CPM851 on 04-Sep-2012

We very much enjoyed our stay at the upper apartment in La Villetta, it is very well equipped with a lovely garden, nice for relaxing and barbeques. The location is excellent, a pleasant stroll away from a nice quiet town with excellent restaurants and cafe's. It is accessible by car within easy driving distance of Florence, Siena, Arrezzo and the Chianti region.

Experience the real Tuscany

By ArthawkBristol on 01-Aug-2012

We have stayed here 8 times over the last 14 years and love every minute of it. It is so peaceful and relaxing, the perfect base for exploring the great cities of Tuscany, while in the evening sitting in the garden in perfect silence sipping a glass of chilled prosecco and watching the sun set over the Pratomagno Hills, wrestling with the difficult decision of whether to fire up the barbie or to walk into one of the several excellent local restaurants. It is a real taste of rural Tuscany and something which should be experienced. We have stayed in many locations in Italy but value for money, this is undoubtedly the best.
