A fully modernised and tastefully restored townhouse centrally located on the West bank of the River Gilao in a very quiet street, just a few minutes walk from Tavira’s main square, historic sights, riverside amenities, restaurants, shops, banks, and ferries to the beaches. The house is single-storey, and high ceilinged, and while it is built with three bedrooms (and is proportioned accordingly) it is offered as two-bedroom accommodation only, for a maximum of four adults. The restoration work was completed in June 2013 to a very high standard. The house benefits from a large rear patio (unusual in Tavira’s historic centre) which can also be accessed directly from the street via a side door and entrance passageway. There is free parking available nearby.

The house is registered for rental under Tavira Council license no. 5246/2014.

ACCOMMODATION

The two bedrooms can accommodate a maximum of four adults. They are accessed from the main entrance hall. Both have double beds (one 180x200, the other 160x200), wardrobes, reading lights, and are double-glazed and air-conditioned.

The sitting area has seating for five people, and the dining area seats six.

The kitchen is fully equipped.

There is a large bathroom in the main house with a walk-in shower, double washbasin and WC. It has under-floor heating for winter use. There is a separate shower room in the patio area with shower, washbasin and WC. A hairdryer is provided.

The large private patio (approximately 50m2) at the rear of the house can be accessed via the side entrance from the street. With it's dining table and chairs, parasol, and sitting area it provides a very practical and pleasant extension to the main house for al fresco wining and dining.

The utility room at the rear of the patio houses the washing machine, clothes lines, ironing board, sun loungers, etc. It is perfectly dry and can be used for the temporary storage of suitcases or golf clubs.

BOOKING NOTES

It is regretted that pet animals cannot be accepted, and that rentals are restricted to adults only as the house is not suitable for children.

Bookings are in principle from Saturday to Saturday, particularly during the high season from May to September.

Bathroom towels and bed linen are provided, though not beach towels.

A cleaning service is provided at the end of a stay.

THE REGION/LOCATION

The area is known for the high-quality beaches that run along the ocean side of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The house is less than five minutes walk from the ferries running in summer to the Ilha de Tavira with its splendid beach, bars and restaurants. Quieter nearby beaches to the west of Tavira include Praia da Terra Estreita and Praia do Barril. East of Tavira beaches which include Cabanas, Fabrica, Manta Rota and Praia Verde stretch along the coast towards the Spanish border.

Tavira is 36km by road to the east of Faro airport on the coastal N125 road, and 40km via the A22 motorway. The town can also be accessed from Faro airport by public transport, taxi, or shuttle service. The use of a car in Tavira is not essential. A local railway service runs the length of the south coast of the Algarve.

The Spanish border is 35km to the east, and Seville a further 135km. Seville, like Lisbon, can be reached by direct bus service from Tavira.

The Ria Formosa Natural Park (and the coastal lagoon that it encloses) extends from just west of Faro to a point some twelve kilometres to the east of Tavira, and is considered an important bird area for both resident and migratory species. Bicycles can be rented locally to explore the area and to ride the Algarve Coastal Cycle Route.

Deux semaines fort agréables!

Nous avons passé deux semaines fort agréables dans la maison de Richard dans la ville de Tavira. La maison, d'architecture typique de la région est très bien localisée, proche de toutes commodités, dans une petite rue calme et à deux pas du centre animé de Tavira.
De plus Tavira est une charmante petite ville, qui a gardé tout son charme.
La maison est très agréable, décorée avec goût et très bien équipée. Elle est très bien adaptée pour deux couples. (plus grande que laisse penser les photos de l'annonce).
Elle bénéficie en plus d'un patio situé à l'arrière de la maison, à l'abri des regards.
Nous recommandons vivement cette maison ainsi que son hôte, Richard, qui veille à ce que tout se passe bien.
L'agent, Kate, qui vous accueille sur place est très aimable et serviable.
Et sans aucun doute, si nous avons l'opportunité de revenir en Algarve, notre choix se portera sur Tavira et principalement sur cette maison."

A wonderful stay

We had a wonderful stay in Richard's house. It is in a fabulous location and the photographs do not do it justice. We loved the courtyard and made good use of this for breakfast and evening drinks. The kitchen is fully stocked with every utensil you could want. We enjoyed making a meal and eating it out in the courtyard. The facilities in the house are second to none. Richard and Marina have provided everything you could need including a comprehensive guide of the area. We ate in many of the suggested restaurants given and enjoyed them all. We will gladly return to this beautiful home.

Favourite holiday rental

After several stays in Tavira, this house has become our favourite holidays rental.
This charming old town house has been perfectly renovated with all modern confort (fully equipped kitchen, large & nice bathroom). We enjoyed very much the outside patio where to spend - having breakfast, take a drink after a long beach day or just getting some rest with a book. Perfectly located in the city center, we had easily access to restaurants, bars, ferry boat & free concert on the Praça da Republica.
We will surely come back…

Our absolute favourite

We discovered Tavira about 6 years ago and have stayed in a few apartments but we have to say that Richard's house has been our absolute favourite. The location is less than 2 minutes walk from a lovely square with our favourite tapas restaurant and the ferry is less than 5 mins walk. The photos don't necessarily demonstrate that this is a beautifully restored historic house with all mod cons i.e. great power shower, air con, wifi, kitchen, loads of cupboard space etc. We will definitely be return customers.

Absolute Gem

Well, what can I say that hasn’t already been said. Richard’s house is a delight. The original old house has been thoughtfully renovated and brought up to date beautifully. The character is still there with the original doors, windows and shutters but the bathroom and kitchen are both modern.
The kitchen is just lovely with every gadget and utensil you’d ever need. In fact the best juicer we’ve ever used! Cupboards have most herbs and spices and we also received a welcome pack. The main shower room is large with plenty of storage, lovely towels and a powerful hairdryer. Living/dining room have comfortable seating and bedrooms have comfortable beds. What more do we need? Oh, some outside space. The large patio has table and chairs and loungers as well as beautiful planters and is like an outside room.
The house is walking distance to shops and restaurants as well as the ferry to the beach. The train station is not far either. Richard himself is very good to deal with and has a very thorough information folder in the house. We would love a return visit if the house is available sometime.

Excellent house in the centre of beautiful Tavira

We have just returned from a fabulous week long stay in this sweet town house. The property far exceeded our expectations. The house was exactly as described, and shown in the photos, but there was so much more to it. The kitchen, for example, was the best equipped of any self catering property we have stayed at -there was absolutely everything we needed, and more. The little patio at the back of the house is a suntrap by day, but cool in the evening and lovely to sit out in after a long day exploring. Everything was spotless and Kate, who manages the property for Richard, was there to greet us when we arrived, (and to see us off when we left) and even provided a much appreciated lunch and a bottle of wine. The location couldn't be better - easy to get to from Tavira train station (a few minutes by taxi) and just minutes walk from restaurants, a little supermarket and the ferry for the beach. The owner, Richard, couldn't have been more helpful. He answered all my emails promptly, and was always ready to help out with any questions. The very comprehensive information pack which he had left in the house, we found invaluable. He really has thought of everything, (including binoculars and information about bird watching for those that are interested, and a DVD collection if you fancy a film night). There is absolutely nothing to fault this house. Richard and his family have worked hard to create a lovely home and deserve the 5* reviews. We'd love to stay again if we get the opportunity.

We recently returned from a 9 night stay in this lovely home which eventually managed to book 10 months previously and having stayed there we can fully appreciate why it is fully booked months and months in advance. We were meet by Kate who showed us around the property and answered our numerous questions about parking, restaurants etc. From stepping through the front door we knew immediately we had found the perfect holiday home it was immaculate. Every room was so well kept and very very clean and what can we say about the kitchen that hasn't already been said in previous reviews. It had everything you could possibly want and much much more it was every woman's dream kitchen. The courtyard, outside shower room and utility room were an added bonus. The flower tubes, the garden furniture, the barbecue even the washing line tucked away in the alleyway was just perfect. Richard you have thought of everything anyone could possibly wish for in your holiday home it was just amazing. The property is in a great location for restaurants, shops, market and the ferry to the beach. Richard and Kate both gave great customer service and were on hand if any problem arose. We would like to say that we would recommend the house to other people but we are reluctant to because we might never be able to book it again ourselves due its popularity. Thank you Richard your home is just perfect.

Just perfect

This house is wonderful! Close to everything you could wish for in the way of restaurants, shops and lovely walks. The property is very well maintained, clean & very comfortable. The owner, Richard, was very helpful, supplying information in advance of our holiday, & Kate the property manager met us at the house & again was very helpful. The house feels like a home not a holiday let and we will certainly be back. We wouldn't look anywhere else which is most unusual for us!

Perfect in Every Way!

You will feel that you've stepped into the pages of 'House Beautiful'.
This home has everything you could possibly want, and more....right down to a basket of adapters and chargers for your devices. It is exactly as the pictures portray, although you can't fully appreciate the size and cleanliness, from the photos.
Richard, the owner, and Kate, the property manager are lovely, helpful, welcoming and accommodating people. We were made to feel completely comfortable and at home, immediately.
The home is spotless, the kitchen is 'fully loaded' the beds are very comfortable and the courtyard is huge, and very private.
As well, the location is ideal, with a bank, grocery store, amazing liquor store, bakeries, restaurants and a taxi stand all in close, but not at all intrusive, proximity.
We cannot wait to return. No other place in Tavira will 'cut it' for us now!

Very clean and comfortable, we loved it!

We enjoyed a wonderful 8 days in the house, which is exactly like the photos and description, though it was still a very pleasant surprise to find everything so clean, comfortable and welcoming.
The kitchen is fantastic and we cooked in most nights - you can buy everything you need within walking distance of the house - the seafood from the market is great.
We were a bit worried about parking, but it really isn't a problem at all.
There is plenty to see and do in Tavira and it's also an ideal base to explore the Eastern Algarve and Western Andalucia. We went to the Parque Nacional Donana in Spain, which was very nice, though we actually saw more birds when walking out on the salt pans of Tavira!

Wonderful house in a quiet location

Just back from a fantastic stay in this property. The owner is really helpful, answered all my queries and provided suggestions for places to eat.
The property is beautifully equipped and very comfortable. It is convenient for everything you might want in Tavira and parking is not a problem.
We used our car for visiting Monrerosa olive oil mill at Monacarapacho, Loulé produce market (out of this world - we thought Tavira market was good until we visited Loulé!), Nova Cortiça cork factory tour and snorkelling in Fuseta.
Some more suggestions for eating in Tavira to add to those we were provided with - Gilão near the old market and the wooden bridge, Copos e Petiscos on the other side of the river near the wooden bridge and Três Palmeiras (open 1-3pm only) near Continente.
We were two couples and hope very much to return next year

Wonderful house and location

This house is just perfect! It is extremely well equipped and well organised and the kitchen has more gadgets than I've ever seen! Location is really central to the beautiful town and the ferry points to the beach. Richard the owner has a brochure of what to do and see that is really helpful and a person to meet you on arrival to show you what you need to know. I would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone , it was really lovely. Tavira itself is a quiet but wonderful location full

Wonderful and very clean accommodation right in the heart of Tavira, we have stayed in Tavira many times and this was by far the best!
Property is finished to a very high standard and the kitchen is fantastic (everything you could possibly want)
A very private terrace again with all you could wish for including BBQ for outdoor dining.
We will certainly return in the future and Richard the owner is always very informative.

Tavira is, thank heavens, a hidden gem in the Algarve. This magnificent town house was a real find and comes thoroughly recommended . Beautifully restored whilst retaining all the authentic features, it manages to match all the modern conveniences of a home with traditional surroundings.the property is very very well equipped with a fantastic kitchen, lovely bathroom and shower and a tasteful and relaxing courtyard. Although situated in the heart of the town it is quiet and peaceful yet one can step out of the door and immediately be emerged in Tavira's wonderful atmosphere. Many reasonably priced traditional Portuguese restaurants, bars and cafes. Ferries to the wonderful islands and ideal for exploring the Eastern Algarve. The owner is a terrific host who makes areal effort to make you feel at home and answers every query promptly and helpfully. Would definitely book again.

Tavira la douce

Ce qui surprend à Tavira c'est le calme! En effet tout s'y fait à l'aise. On y fait ses emplettes dans les multiples magasins locaux sans s'exiter, tout le monde est chaleureux, pas de cris, pas de bruit.
Un vrai moment de détente. De plus la maison, restaurée avec goût dans le style local, est merveilleusement équipée et l'apéro au patio est un plaisir intense. Merci encore aux proprios pour les listes de restaurants qui permettent toutes les découvertes possibles. Bref....on y retournera.

The townhouse is great

We were there the second time. We love the house - it's charming and individual.You will miss nothing. Only a footstep there are a lot of shops, the market with very fresh and good food (fish, meat, fruit, vegetables...) and the boat to the beach. We love to sit in the evening on the terrace and enjoy the Portuguese wine. There are a lot of restaurants in Tavira. Everything was perfect and we will come back - but the next time we will stay a little bit longer.

Fabulous holiday home in Tavira

We stayed in this fabulous holiday home for 3 wonderful weeks.
The house exceeded all our expectations.
The decor is tasteful & every single detail has been thought of. The kitchen is better equipped than mine at home & absolutely immaculate.
We have stayed in a number of properties in Tavira but this is by far the best one by miles.
Tavira itself is a delightful town with beautiful beaches & great restaurants. The house is right in the town centre, so we did not need a car ... heaven! I must add that although in the town centre it is still very peaceful.
The courtyard is just divine & so private. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & will return as soon as we can.

Perfect holiday

Our stay at Tavira was a perfect holiday. The house is a fondly and beautifully restored old town house, situated in a quite little street with shops and other facilities you may need close by. The furnishing is in very good style and the equipment extraordinarily good (especially the kitchen left nothing to be desired), more like a real home than a holiday home. All rooms were absolutely clean and all technical equipment worked well. We loved having breakfast in the patio which was our main dining and living room because of the marvellous weather we had.
Our host did everything to simplify our stay. Even during the preparation of our stay he answered to all our questions and reacted very fair and flexibly to our decision to stay another night. In the house there is a folder with enormous hints and helping recommendations of everything you might need: shops, restaurants, doctors, how to handle the technical equipment, nice trips and so on.
We confidently recommend this house to all people who like combining the comfort of a small town with the facilities of the beaches nearby. For 10 days it was our home and we're looking forward to stay there again soon. Thank you Richard once again for your hospitality.

Can't praise enough !

from the moment of arrival we knew we had found a little gem of a holiday rental. We have stayed in Tavira and surroundings before but this is (by far) the best place we have found ....and will not consider any other place when we return. We are both from the hotel industry (and were hotel inspectors for 4 years throughout E*ME*A inspecting 4 & 5 star hotels) so we know all about quality and "the little things" that mean a lot. I simply cannot fault this property and will strongly recommend to any friends considering visiting the area.

Portuguese Cottage Gem

We stayed here for 5 weeks and were very impressed with the property.
The quiet central location of this delightful cottage is so handy for the shops, restaurants, buses and ferries, in fact everything one needs on holiday.
I'ts a wonderful base for walking in the area ..... no car required.
The house has been beautifully renovated and retains many of the original features.
It possesses the very highest quality fixtures and fittings. The private courtyard to the rear is a real suntrap, we spent many hours enjoying the peace and cooking a meal on the superb bbq, followed by eating al fresco. We are a retired couple and would certainly love to stay in this most suitable property again.

Our Winter Week in Tavira

The house was wonderful and possibly the best equipped we have ever stayed in. The place was spotless and nicely furnished and decorated, even to the extent of the outside patio which we managed to sit in once or twice. We found everything we needed and it was good to have a welcome basket provided until we settled in. We especially enjoyed the wet room with its underfloor heating - it was always a treat to freshen up.
Great to be based so centrally and we walked out to restaurants most evenings, managing to find restaurants open even in mid January- we never had to eat in the same one twice although we were occasionally the only customers.
We loved Tavira with its off shore sandy beaches and salt marshes, good for bird watching and the books and maps provided allowed us to explore locally and further afield.
A good winter holiday destination for us.

A Charming Portuguese getaway

This beautifully renovated house in the centre of Tavira was our welcoming home for a week. It's situated in the middle of the town close to the famous bridge, castle, churches and local stores. It's a quiet and peaceful little street where you'll have no trouble sleeping.
The house has been extensively renovated and very comfortable with a spacious bathroom and kitchen, including all appliances one would need to do some Portuguese cooking yourself. The bedrooms are comfortable and plenty of cupboard space was provided.
The lovely living and dining room, as well as the kitchen, give access to the large terrace. The owners made sure that everything you need is present; outdoors furniture, an extra shower and even a utility room with a washing machine if needed.
Even during our stay in Winter time (as of 3 January) we could still sit outside and enjoy the terrace for lunch and bask in the warmth of the sun.
It's a very charming house where they did some smart renovating to make sure that the nice authentic aspects of the house are well combined with present day comfort.
Next to an extensive guide on how everything works in the house, the friendly owners also provide a list of walks you can do in the area and some tips on the local restaurants.
If you want to stay in a charming and comfortable place in Tavira to discover the town or venture out further in the Algarve, this is the place for you.

The house is marvellous

The house is well equipped and we missed nothing. We open the door and feel just at home. Nearby you will find a supermarket, a bakery and but last not least you find a couvert market. The discriptions concerning the house, restaurants ist very good and I've never seen before.And Tavira ist the "Venedig" from the Algavre - the best Town near FARO. We will come back.
